staal isn't going anywhere. just because he's not scoring as many goals this season doesn't mean he isn't playing as well. he's the most defensive minded forward we have, and he's probably our best penalty killer. he had a standout season with a lot of goals last year, but that's not what's gonna make him such a valuable player in years to come. its every other aspect of his game.

I don't think there was any contest... Evgeni Malkin is going to be the obvious Calder winner but many sports annalists rank Staal second, even above Kopitar.

not that im suggesting i know everything, but i was saying early in the season he deserved to be up around the second line because of his maturity and obvious talent, he also doesnt make very many mistakes, sad it took him that long to get that much respect, but he is only 18

He was not getting any ice time in the beginning of the year, never played on the power play, and was on the third line with lesser players. Now that he's moved up to the second line with Malkin he is tearing it up. Had he had all those things earlier in the year, he would be up there for the Calder.
