  • That little stove you made was pretty awesome. Does your website have directions on how to make that? I was curious about how long your heat source would last too? Is all that on your site?

  • @sassylassy01 yes, we have some material on penny stoves here at YT

  • Excellent job!

  • @Willdatrillone thanks for watching :)

  • for vacum sealer, I buy a sealer lid for mason jars, and made sure I bough a vacum sealer with the tub to use such a lid. Put your stuff in mason jars with an oxegen absorber pac, store it in a coold dark place and it lasts for five years plus.

  • I liked you video and started my own prep. I have another source for 25 year shelf life food, which you can actually make money with. If this sounds interesting to you send me a email and I'll send you the link just or go to my channel.

  • Great video! Question about the hamburger meat, do you cook the hamburger meat BEFORE dehidrating it or do you dehidrate it raw like beef jerky. If you have answered this already please forgive as this is the first video I have watched. I plan on thru-hiking the AT in 2013

  • @samatl74 meat is cooked, thanks for watching!

  • Nicely done. I never go out w/o Clarified Butter tho. It is easy to make and does not go bad on the trail...Plus it makes Everything taste better, and I love to eat the fish I catch.

  • Thank you for sharing this info. I have subscribed and will be buying a sealer. Have a dehydrator but did not realize this could be done so easily. Thanks again.

  • @anestis1971 thanks, we should have more meals and field tests coming soon.

  • I am a big dehydrator. Now the meals sealed I like.

    Thanks

  • @VictoriasCreativeCra thanks for stopping by!

  • was going quite well until that powdered cheese shit went in - YUK!!!

  • Love the videos and to someone like me who is new to camping/hiking/back packing and dehydrating, I am picking up a lot of really great tips and info. THANKS and keep'em coming!!!

  • @Nubster12 just setting up plans for a pile more retail and homemade food stuffs for hiking/camping/backpacking. Thanks for stopping by

  • good stuff guys

  • How much does a dehydrator like that cost? If its a lot, is there a good cheap one? I know, I used the words "good" and "cheap" in the same sentence! lol

  • @planejet42 okay, this was 50ish, and well worth it. Plenty of trays and screens.

  • @usframe $50? That's a lot less then I was expecting! Do you have a link or anything to where i could purchase one?

  • @planejet42 I just checked on what we used in that vid, but check Amazon for this, Nesco FD-60 500-Watt Snackmaster Food Dehydrator/Jerky Maker . We now use a larger unit,(think we got special at $129) but most times something with 4 trays would be plenty good enough.

  • @usframe I will take a look at it. Thanks.

  • @usframe Oh yeah, what about that thing you used to seal the bags? If I want to make meals and put them in a bag.

  • @planejet42 Seal-a-Meal Vac Sealer Food Saver, just saw them at w-mart last week or so, still $50. Buy the rolls of bag material to save on cash.

  • @usframe Thanks for the help! This seems like a simple, enjoyable thing to do. Can you dehydrate any food?

  • @planejet42 simplest answer... darn near everything. lol, yeah, if it was hard to do, I wouldn't bother ;)

  • @usframe lol great! Thanks again for the help!

  • I voted "LIKE" for this vid Good idea NOT to crowd the trays !

  • also what is the shelf life of the food when you prepare it like that?

  • @onerugrat truth is, we never have anything around long enough to find out.

  • dude I love your stove made out of a can, but what is HEET? and is that in a H2O2 bottle?

  • @onerugrat heet is a gas line "anti-freeze"

  • Do you cook the beef partialy or all the way before dehydrating it.

  • @measuredstep the food is fully cooked

  • more dehydrated cooking vids pls.

  • @ImminentlyWise coming soon!

  • i like your voice!

  • I just found your channel. You guys have a lot of good ideas. Thanks for passing them on.

  • I like your stove, do you have a vid on makeing one?

  • @mdr8088 a link is now in the bottom of the description, thanks!

  • what's the shelf life on your dehydrated and sealed meals?

  • @wikoli29 we always use the food within 6 months or less, so I have no idea of a projected lifetime.

  • Great video! Looking to get away from mountain house, already have the dehydrater, debating a vacuum sealer.

  • @mugelerm if you are going to use the meals within a few days, most likely you will not need the vacuum sealer.

  • Very nicely done! So much cheaper than Mountain House and it's something you can take pride in since you were the ones who created it. Thanks for sharing!

  • @ILPrepper I still give the retail meals a try, allows me to honestly compare. Thanks for visiting!

  • If I dehydrate the ingredients less than a week before I cook them, do I still need to vacuum seal them? Can I just freeze them in a ziplock bag and thaw them out before I pack them for the trip? Great video by the way. Learned more from the videos than from the forums.

  • @canoetexas I would just ziplock and fridge

  • bryan regan in the background. Nice

  • Your vids seriously kick ass! Love em!

  • @1TacticalMedic thanks for dropping in!

  • @MsJojo540 sorry, we don't own a tv, better luck next time sport

  • how long do the meals last in the vacum sealed bag,say if i vacum sealed em then put in mylar bags?thanks

  • @18wheeler76 from what we have seen, years. we recycle and restock constantly, so nothing is over a year old. And, most of the meals are for more immediate use on the trail. Thanks for watching.

  • wow man,you got a new sub, this is one of the best prepin videos i ever seen.

  • thanks for making this!

  • Thats a fantastic setup you got there. Well done, brother!

  • is that hiram in the background?

  • @greggandshandy I don't know, I see a comment that says Jim Gaffigan, but I was thinkking Brian Regan. Maybe it is none of those. Around this place, it is hard to say what might be heard. Sometimes, there is goofy stuff we have done playing for background. Thanks for watching!

  • How long do you think that mac n cheese, beef, broccoli recipe will last for when it's vacuum sealed?

  • @47Indigo47 you know, we see varying reports, some into many years if properly stored for dehydrated items. Most of what we do gets used in less than a year. And, usually for travel and camping. Thanks for watching

  • Nice, I would bring a little powdered milk to make it a little more creamy. If just camping....SHTF kinda thing.....that's eating like a king. Thanks for the upload...have been watching how to dehydrate food....but what the heck to do with it then :) thanks. This would make great dog food just using plain elbow noodles instead of mac and cheese.

  • @Cjaz84 Catch up with this lady - Dehydrate2store - she's good, and you'll learn a lot! Cheers!

  • jim gaffigan!

well done sir. that looks delicious!

  • Great video , that mac & cheese looks delicious . What brand and model number is your food sealer ? That does an awesome job of sealing those bags . Enjoy your video's a lot , nice to see some local people on yourtube .

  • @wingshooterz is the Seal-a-Meal Vac Sealer, Model # VS106, thanks for watching

  • I like how you use your dad as the sacraficial taster , nice vid !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gsw2chest yeah, we don't want to test it on the young warrior, if we lose a member of the tribe, let be one with fewer years remaining.

  • Amazing stuff. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the recipe,

  • You guys have so many great DIY projects. I don't know which is better your skill set or sense of humor. Keep on rocking guys!

  • i like the stove

  • That actually looks good. Looks like I found dinner for tomorrow. Thanks for sharing guys. You all be safe!

  • You've sold me on it i'm getting one of those vacuum sealers. ps: your vids rock!

  • i wonder how long the dehydrated food keeps

  • @practicalskills according to what I have seen, many years. lol, nothing lasts that long around here. We have friends with dried foods in jars over 7 years, and it is great. There are some that do extreme survival with this stuff, and I think they are thinking 10 plus years. None of that would include meat, though.

  • Great demonstration. Haven't been watching you guys long so now I have to go see how to make the stove. And thumbs up for what sounded like Brian Reagan at the start.

  • Very nice, real good idea. Thanks.

  • I am going to get some of those gloves for cooking. Great idea!!!

  • @HawkLMT I think we paid $5 for a 1000 gloves at Sam's.
