i honestly wouldve rathered she did the split leg double layout as her first pass, because I really don't like the idea of having 2 of the same salto in the routine, I'm glad that nowadays gymnasts can't do that. but besides that, gymnastics back then was much more entertaining to watch!
I have to say that this routine was so difficult I am impressed. People don't like the dance because it doesn't match. She's 14, she had to get better and her gymnastic ability was too high so it put it to shame. Give her a break. Her competitors at the olympics only hoped to be able to do this...
imo, the music was icky. choreography was not bad considering she never really did have the dance ability that her other teammates had. gutsu was throwing more difficulty on all events (except beam) in 1991. by the olympics, i didnt think she was that special. either she was burnt out or whatnot, but she took out her DTY, low bar work, and most almost all of this tumbling by barcelona. if anything, the only thing she improved upon was her form. blah
Gutsu had betetr music at the end of the year and subsequently, better choreo. I'm glad she cleaned up her form because she was pretty painful to watch on bars and beam back in 1991. This tumbling would have suited her better in 1992.
Absolutely AMAZING! whip to double layout, full twisting double back, double layout. Even the choreo was great! I think this floor routine outclassed the one she had for the olympics. Music was way more dramatic, tumbling suited her more (split legged layout was not great) and with this routine, she could have rivalled for the Gold medal for FX finals as well as avoided a hefty deduction
Now it's even rare to see someone doing a double layout. The ones at this year worlds were so little

i agree about her music choice...her routine at the 91 DTB cup was much better.

That is the exact competition I was thinking of. The music was a mix of Enigma.
