Russel T Davies said he's have liked to have all the old companions there for the Doctor's funeral and "[he'd] have even found a way to pluck Romana out of e-space". So there you are - RTD thinks she's still alive aswell!

If I recall correctly, Lalla Ward has mentioned that the outfit she wore in "Creature for the Pit," the white one, was designed for Tamm, but Tamm left the show (again I think pregnancy, but may be wrong), and therefore the costume, already made, had to be altered for Lalla. She hated it.
@jadewarlock, IIRC from obscure interviews, Tamm left because she felt the character had nowhere else to go and the writers were writing her into a damsel in distress when Romana began as a much more independant foil to the Doctor. Fortunately, Ward brought (or was allowed to bring) back much of that and became the greatest companion, the Doctor's near-equal.

To me it isn't a question of if Romana comes back. Doctor Who is so nostalgic and self-contratulating (& rightly so) its extremely likely she will.
What people should is think very carefully about who's going to play her and what role she's going to play on the show. Is she going to be a role model for young kids? How flirty will she be? Will she maybe be played by an actress of non-white origin?
And most importantly, if she doesn't ground the show on Earth, will the BBC accept her?

Just occurred to me that Baker's Dr. said he was around six or seven hundred. The doc hasn't seen Romana for 300 years. She's one of the few Time-Lords that cold still be around, cause, like Rose, she was off in an alternate universe.
Times like these remind me how much of a nerd I can be... :P
Technically, she's on the "assumed dead" list. According to the radio adventures, Romana had returned to this universe and had become Lady President of Gallifrey. Presumably, she still held this position during the Time War, and was killed (along with Leela, and K-9s Mk I and II) when the Doctor sacrificed Gallifrey.
The novels have no relevance to the show unless the production team references them in the program. We don't know if Romana came back and became pres of Galifrey. I've never read one of those novels that I liked anyway, they made Ace into a brooding wolverine-ish mercenary!
Believe me, I would love to be wrong about this - Romana coming back would be great (and so much more believable than the Doctor getting the hots for some chav-accented blonde with delusions of intelligence. But I do remember reading somewhere that the audio adventures are considered canon. Will they ignore that, at least so far as Romana is concerned? I certainly hope so; she and Leela were always my two favorites!

I was hinted at in a book that Romana survived in a fourth regeneration. Wither that is really her or not, it does sound like another another time lord. Hopefully they bring Romana back.

Well, according to Big Finish Audio (never the most canonical of sources) and their Gallifrey audio series, Romana II as played by the Blessed Saint Lalla Ward was High President of Gallifrey during the Time War. And Leela and K9 were there too. And Andred became an unblanced terrorist.

Absolutly. If you count Big Finish and the book series as canon then Romana did return to Gallifrey at some point and later becames Imperiatrix Romana,a ruthless third incarnation that was based visualy on Silent Screen legend Louise Brooks. However personally I think the Idea of Romana becoming President is ridiculous, it neither fits her personality or the opinion the Time Lords had of her. No. She's still in E-Space fighting the good fight for the Tharils with K-9 #II

i love this video, Romana 2 was my favourite companion, a very moving video, with some of the best clips, destiny of the daleks, city of death, shada, warriors gate, logopolis etc i'd say the song goes well especially with the doctors the death at the end of logopolis, and the rest could act as his memories of him and romana i guess, brilliant video. 5/5
This is such a lovely and upbeat video about the Doctor's adorable relationship with Romana (which I personally interpret as a big brother/little sister type). I can't help feeling sad when I watch it though, because the title of the song does allude to Romana's death. Very effective, placing light-heartedness and sadness side by side. 5/5

Actually that claim is made in novels: virgin missing adventures, which are not considered. Unless it was stated otherwise in the series I think we should assume she still at the warrior's gate in e-space with k-9 mark II
Since Romana is left in th parallel universe through the CVE story arcs I think she could definitely be brought back and then played through several regenerations before being killed or marooned or something.
The ohe only one the Doctor ever actually ever had a life with.(not unless he decides to bat for the otherside with and hook up with the now immortal Captain Jack).
Nicely done. I liked the subtle references to the Time War. Now that Russell Davies has brought back Sarah Jane, and there are rumors of another classic series character possibly appearing in the new series and/or Torchwood (I've heard different rumors), I think Russell Davies should put "bring back Romana" on his to-do list.
I just learned two weird things about Lalla Ward: 1) She's married to atheist scientist Richard Dawkins, and 2) She's descended from George Plantagenet, the first Duke of Clarence, the one who was drowned in the malmsey butt in "Richard III". Also, could she be any cuter in that Madeline, French girl outfit?

I was hinted at in a book that Romana survived in a fourth regeneration. Wither that is really her or not, it does sound like another another time lord. Hopefully they bring Romana back.

Well, according to Big Finish Audio (never the most canonical of sources) and their Gallifrey audio series, Romana II as played by the Blessed Saint Lalla Ward was High President of Gallifrey during the Time War. And Leela and K9 were there too. And Andred became an unblanced terrorist.
Lalla Ward looks way too young still. I really, really hope I look that good when I'm that age. They should totally bring her back as Romana II.

Absolutly. If you count Big Finish and the book series as canon then Romana did return to Gallifrey at some point and later becames Imperiatrix Romana,a ruthless third incarnation that was based visualy on Silent Screen legend Louise Brooks. However personally I think the Idea of Romana becoming President is ridiculous, it neither fits her personality or the opinion the Time Lords had of her. No. She's still in E-Space fighting the good fight for the Tharils with K-9 #II

i love this video, Romana 2 was my favourite companion, a very moving video, with some of the best clips, destiny of the daleks, city of death, shada, warriors gate, logopolis etc i'd say the song goes well especially with the doctors the death at the end of logopolis, and the rest could act as his memories of him and romana i guess, brilliant video. 5/5

This is such a lovely and upbeat video about the Doctor's adorable relationship with Romana (which I personally interpret as a big brother/little sister type). I can't help feeling sad when I watch it though, because the title of the song does allude to Romana's death. Very effective, placing light-heartedness and sadness side by side. 5/5

Mary Tamm (Romana I) became pregnant near the end of her tenure, so that's why they replaced her with Lalla Ward (Romana II) the woman in this video.

Actually that claim is made in novels: virgin missing adventures, which are not considered. Unless it was stated otherwise in the series I think we should assume she still at the warrior's gate in e-space with k-9 mark II

Since Romana is left in th parallel universe through the CVE story arcs I think she could definitely be brought back and then played through several regenerations before being killed or marooned or something.

Nicely done. I liked the subtle references to the Time War. Now that Russell Davies has brought back Sarah Jane, and there are rumors of another classic series character possibly appearing in the new series and/or Torchwood (I've heard different rumors), I think Russell Davies should put "bring back Romana" on his to-do list.

I just learned two weird things about Lalla Ward: 1) She's married to atheist scientist Richard Dawkins, and 2) She's descended from George Plantagenet, the first Duke of Clarence, the one who was drowned in the malmsey butt in "Richard III". Also, could she be any cuter in that Madeline, French girl outfit?

Ahhh, romana. how i adored her, well both of them really! (though my favorite was 1) I would love for romana to be brought back for the new series. Now that would cause some shocks.
