You can't even compare Obraztsova and Somova... they're comletely different dancers, different body types, etc. Besides, they're both incredible.
Obraztsova makes a wonderful Giselle, as with anything she dances encompasses everything from technical sleekness to a performance quality of pure sunshine.
beautiful beautiful giselle. it would be interesting to see how she interprets a character like kitri. like natalia osipova, it was nice to see her step away from kitri and do giselle, sleeping beauty, and sylphides. i hope obraztsova gets to do them all, she is a true ballerina :)
i'm jealous, i always wanted to be a ballet dancer, but my mom didn't wanted me to be, by the time i could pay for my own classes, i was to old for it :(

No, I don't see Giselle here either. And yes, Somova is definitely prima material. However the two dancers are not rivals for their stage personae do not intersect.
Obraztsova is perfection as Giselle. What a revelation! So musical, sweet, classically pure. The mere presentation of her pointed foot with arched instep is pure poetry! Obraztsova is a blessing for the otherwise-troubled Kirov-Mariinsky Ballet of today. She is the antidote to the vulgarity & 'show-off' quality of her contemporary at the Kirov, Alina Somova, who is being shoved down the public's throats by the theater's administration.
I agree wholeheartedly. Obraztsova is such an artistic revelation, so different from young dancers of this generation who treasure gymnast hijinks over conveying emotion in dance. Alina Somova is one of the worst offenders at the Mariinsky but she is considered prima material there, so go figure.

Charming as she is, I don't find that this role suites Evgenia very well. Arms are short for one thing, then she made couple of small mistakes in this clip alone, but most importantly she doesn't dance the romantic role of Giselle, but rather the neo-classical Ondine. And those two roles are just not comparable. And yes, Somova is a wonderful ballerina of whom I expect great things. So please continue shoving her down my throat as I will be all too happy to swallow :)))
Agree to disagree. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, it's great for ballet to generate such passions/ discourse. While I don't care for Somova's style, I'm not going to microanalyze mistakes and such. You don't graduate from Vaganova Choreographic Institute and be a soloist at KM without having solid technique. For me it's a style preference thing. I've been following KM since early '90s when I spent part of college in St. Petersburg, I think KM is still the best company around.
She is pure beauty

she seem sjust perfect for this role, so light and girly, it is easy to believe the naive innocence required of GIselle in the story

Charming - like a glimpse into the past - wish she'd do Spessivtseva's diagonal of turns at the end, though.

A tiny bit too sweet, too naïve, but plausible
