I think the fisherman who caught this specimen should be hung from one of his hooks! in 1 move he took out over 50 shark babies, and an obviously fertile female, way to go! Hope he learned from this to never sport fish again... and if not, perhaps he should be reminded of how important life is!
this gives us decent conservationist anglers a bad name fair enough u caught a big shark y not just take a photo and let the fish go on her way but it the typical yank bein all macho and look i can kill something that is bigger and more inteligent than me i appologise to all the americans who arent like the oafs that slaughterd this magnificent animal
why would that stupid fisherman do that! how could he, this a endangered species and he just got one for a record? he should be sewed! well but at least he didnt waste it, he gave to the guy so at least they learned something. but what he did was wrong! and look at all those babies, how could he!
I was lucky enough to participate in the dissection of this shark, and it was one of the most exciting and saddening experiences I've ever had. It was a thrill to see and touch and work on such a large, powerful animal, but the loss of life was just heartbreaking. Hopefully, the research performed with this animal can help future generations of her kind in their fight for survival.
Well, I'm glad the fishermen had the sense to offer the shark to scientists, but my gosh...to lose so many beautiful creatures, both the mother and all the pups...all in the name of sport? All to set a record that would quickly be forgotten even by those few who ever heard of it? I feel sad thinking of that.
croc2005 sharks skin is the toughest skin of any other mamale u cant judge it after a full 24hrs after death after its death the skin begins to soften trust me they're tough
i would love to be a marinebiologist at the mote. i have been there a lot i know the place by heart and i would love to help take care of all their awesome sharks

Informative video, but I get the feeling that this shark will be missed amoung the Hammer head community, not for sentimental reasons, simply that she was probably a great a matriarch and an enourmous provider to the gene pool.
It takes years, if not decades for fish to grow that big, pure and simple.
Never seen that size amongst hammerheads and specially in either of the scalloped or great hammerheads. This one is a remarkable specimen caught with great knowledge about the science and research to be conducted on sharks in the near future.
why not just take some pictures and release it? no need to kill a fish your not even going to eat

Face Palm... IF you're not going to eat it. Release it. Or if your into that sort of thing tag it :p...

It is legal to fish hammerheads?
geppebrillo 3 years ago
wait... did the fisherman kill the pregnant great hammerhead?? or was it dead when he found it?
rockerchic013 3 years ago
He killed it. Technically if he fished it, it was alive when he pulled it out.
So if he found a dead shark, technically he found it. Not fished.
