If you give to charity you can make very short term benefit. However, wealth is generated by companies (sorry) and the wealth(sorry again). We would however see instant results in the price of oil per barrel. Since Bush lifted his ban on offshore drilling gas prices have gone down every week since. He's actually pushing for conservative principles, something that I'm sure Republicans are indeed pleased about. Well, the point is you need to drill in many places and often. Conservation won't solve energy need, you must increase supple for that unless bothe your population and standard of living are decreasing.

I think the issue is that you are buying into the myth that there is a fixed amount of money in the world and that making the wealth poor helps the poor. However, if you look at the world this idea has been tried many times and has never, ever worked. In truth wealth is generated and destroyed all the time. High standard of living results from the ability to generate wealth, not from redistributing wealth. Since it takes a critical mass of wealth to make wealth its counter-productive.

If you give to charity you can make very short term benefit. However, wealth is generated by companies (sorry) and the wealth(sorry again). If you are just getting by you spend your money on the basics, because you don't have enough money to build wealth. If you take too much wealth (i.e. tax, etc) you take away the primer from the wealth pump. If you look around the world the standard of living is the highest for everyone when people are free to keep the most of their income and build on it.

To tell you the truth.I truly believe that most of the human race is STUPID.Not much common sense either.Especially the ones that say that by starting to drill today won't make much of an impact.So what if it takes 10years to get a drop.The news that USA may start more drilling has already reduced the price a little. Wait until it starts to flow. If we don't start now. 10 years from now when we are paying over $20/gal.The economy completely wrecked.We will say, we should have drilled 10 yrs ago.

We put those regulations in place decades ago because we recognized rightly that there have to be limits to capitalism, and that the natural environment has to be protected against exploitation. Ever since Teddy Roosevelt, we have recognized that. Your kind of small-mindedness is exactly what got us into this problem to begin with. If conservatives had not stopped us from investing in wind and solar decades ago, we would not have this problem today.

If conservatives had not spent 20 years denying global warming in a desperate attempt to change the facts, we could have switched our energy grid off of fossil fuels many years ago. Actually the extreme environmentalists (lobbyists) contributed more so to the stoppage of wind and solar decades ago. They don't even want us to turn dirt w/ a shovel. I am suprised they haven't had us remove the windshields from our vehicles. They do kill many many insects. Me smallminded. You could not be farther from the truth. Look who is trying to derail a community's plan in Boston (wish I could remember the name) for additional wind power. They get about 10% from 3 windmill turbines. Have plans to put a few off the coast to reap the addional benefits of the more powerful coastal winds. Yes, you guessed it. The extreme environmentalists. Looks like wind and solar power is getting back on the rails. Wake up. Oil is a short to midterm solution. Wind, solar and other alternatives will have advanced enough to replace.

You hit the nail right on the head! Oil drives our entire economy. We depend on foreign sources for 70% of it. Has anyone heard of this being a major National Security issue? This has been directly in front of our leader's faces for decades. Nothing has been done about it. I say throw them all out of office.

Despite McCain's refusal to vote for renewable energy, he ran TV ads during the Olympics, showing a wind farm full of spinning turbines, the exact same energy he WOULD NOT vote in support of EIGHT TIMES over the past year.
McCain presumes Americans are SO stupid that if he just shows them wind turbines in an Olympics ad they'll actually think he showed up and voted for such renewable power — when he didn't.

Refusing to vote on legislation needed to address our energy crisis not only harms our national security interest by extending the duration of US dependency on foreign countries. But, it also risks marginalizing the US in terms of which countries will be the leaders in the alternative energies that replace oil dependency. After 26 years of conservatives, like McCain, repeatedly blocking wind budgets and tax credits, the US is now a bit player in the $36 billion global market.

Yes because China is doing a GREAT job on dealing with their energy problem, right? They're putting 25,000 new cars on the road each day, and have 5 of the top 10 most polluted cities on the planet. They also have NO emissions standards, and NO car made there could be driving on U.S. roads legally since they're such huge polluters. But to say that aloud would cause you and your family to be "re-educated" (read as, murdered or imprisoned). Yeah, China! Commies!

The Bush Administration itself admits that offshore drilling could potentially create 200,000 barrels per day in about 30 years. That's 1% of the U.S. daily consumption. If you keep your tires inflated, you'll increase that to 3%; regular tune-ups add 4%. This info comes from energy efficiency experts, and was later admiteed by McCain to be accurate. Do some research and it may save you from being so shocked and looking dumb.

Jdearman, have you ever heard of oil speculators. Even if the dems say that we wouldnt benefit from offshore drilling and/or oil reserves for 20 years. We would however see instant results in the price of oil per barrel. Since Bush lifted his ban on offshore drilling gas prices have gone down every week since. If congress would do the same then the prices will go down even more because of speculators. This would in turn help our economy get out the rut it is in.

- Extra Drilling = more oil profit.
- War in Iraq & Iran = more oil profit.
- To Open ANWR = more oil profit.
- No specific green targets (only feel good waffle!) = more oil profit.
- Gas tax holiday = higher prices & more oil profit (its been tried).
- No windfall tax on big oil companies to invest in raising car MPGs = more oil profit.
McCain has been bought & paid for.

I think republicans have lost common sense. We shouldn't drill for oil everywhere and rip up more of our wild lands...with oil that wont even show a profit in 20 yrs. Not to mention we dont even drill on the current supplied land we already have so lets drill there first instead of insisting on covering our coasts and country with oil fields. Ever heard of alternative renewable energy? We have the technology right now to solve this problem. Lets have more hydrogen, wind, and solar, and nuclear.

Republican ideology in general wants the federal government to have less power, and wants each state to legislate their own laws (becasue how does someone in washington d.c. knows whats best for rural areas in montana)
Libs, in general want a larger federal gvt that creates laws for all of the states. So Reps aren't fascist. Dems aren't either, but closer
