  • Shouichiro Hokazono brought life to this song. look it up on youtube.

  • Agreed! There is too much talking on this clip. No concert Etiquette to begin with. DONT UPLOAD when you cannot be polite!

  • You can't compare David Childs with this one. David's sound is amazing. But this one also is amazing. Everyone has his own sound eventually.

  • yes you can they are both euphonium players playing the same piece, the only reason david's sound better is because it was recorded while this was on a tape recording.adam did some things better than david, same for david.

  • No, He can't produce the exact same tone as David Childs, that's impossible. Even if they both recorded in a studio. Like I said, everyone has their own sound.

  • i didn't say that he can produce the same tone as david because like you said they have their own sound, but you can compare them.

  • i didn't say nothing about him producing the same tone as david, i said yes you can compare these two you need to LISTEN.

  • As someone have the sheet music on his computer, maybe he wanna give it to me?:D

    Thanks!..

  • why does every nice vid on youtube have to be corrupted by arguments? Can we all just enjoy the piece? =(

  • it was pretty good. i seems like the his tone sounds off because of the video recorder, not him, at least thats how it seems.

  • I wish the ensemble would have let him go faster in the end.

  • i didn't really enjoy this. adam frey has bad tone (and i'm not just judging by this video alone). this sounded very sloppy in many parts and i doubt it would be improved if they went faster.

  • OK? Why are you telling me? What do you like? Adam is one of the best in this country and the world...if you don't like him that's OK, but don't trash him on the internet like that...bad form.

  • i am telling you because you said that you wished that the ensemble would have let me go faster and i am saying that would not have helped the performance, that's all.

  • You also said he has a bad tone. I'm looking at the comment right now. It's the second sentence just in case you are confused.

  • he does have bad tone

  • Okay, have fun with your opinion.

But there's a lot of people out their who will disagree.

  • i totally disagree, that tone's astounding

  • I'm with GBCE on this one...it's too North American. In general we don't know how to blow a good sound on a euphonium.

  • Okay then, just tell me one euphonium soloist that you like from NORTH AMERICA. Not David Childs, someone from the good 'ol USA. And so when you say "In general we don't know how to blow a good sound on a euphonium", are you simply saying that Americans don't know how to play euphonium? I'd say that that sounds a little instrumental racist.

  • No...it's a fact. The North American concept of what euphonium sound is, is flawed. Far too bright. But, if you must know...Aaron VanderWeele. There's an American who knows how to blow. And I said "in general", so perhaps once you learn what "in general" means, you'll realize that I wasn't saying every single one everywhere. I'm pretty happy with the sound that I get too, because I model it after the Brits. And I'm Canadian, so why don't YOU tell ME a Canadian euphonium you've HEARD of. Now.

  • Yes I DO know what "in general" means, and for some reason I took it personally. I do believe that I have a good sound, only because I am a big fan of David Childs, and I try to emulate his sound as much as possible, plus, I am NOT a fan of bright sounds at all. I dislike the trombone/trumpet (sorry if I made anyone mad). Plus, not all famous British people have that dark rich tone, example ala Steven Mead. I do deeply apologize, but I do NOT know any famous euph players from Canada.

  • If you emulate David Childs' sound, than I wouldn't say you're included in the "in general". Have you seen Lyndon Baglin's rendition of Rule Britannia on here? You might like his sound, as well.

Don't worry about not knowing any famous euph players from Canada, there's not many...maybe one day I'll have the honour of being known down in America!! Time to practice...

  • it's not bad, but it is a bit bright. also, his slotting isn't very good. i think he's overrated

  • I don't mnow what you're talking about because I don't have a bright sound because that's what I was taught from an American

  • Brian Bowman, Demondrae Thurman

  • But overall It's still a great performance of Pantomime nevertheless.

  • Well, if you've heard his CD "Listen to THIS!!" then you would know that he is not missing notes in the 10/8 section, but rather purposefully playing it that way. However, he does miss the high Cb in the beginning.

  • I got two Frey recodings of Pantomime from Listen to This and Majestic Journey (the one on Majestic Journey is my fav), and what I meant by "...I heard him miss quite a lot of notes" was that throughout there were notes that were just a little iffy, like the Cb in the begining. It's still a good performance.

  • Mr. Frey is a good performer. However, in this video it seems as if he didn't bring his "A-Game" because I heard him miss quite a lot of notes.

  • Adam frey has a nice warm tone. its a perfect euphonium tone. its dark, warm, and has that edge to it. but its adam frey so we cant expect anyhting less.

  • nice

  • adam frey is amazing

  • oops.. meant.. the tone isn't there actually.. there are tons of people better out there.. although i'm rather substandard.. ><

  • omg.. played this song before.. one of my favs for eupho solos.. the tone is there though.. ><

  • Like a composer i hope:D

  • I love Philip Sparke

  • lol mrs. sparke

  • O.O amazing
