I think more people should return subs, unless they really don't like what the person has to offer. Great concept you have here. I don't think I'm subbed to anyone big.
Good point, what I have noticed though is that Youtubers who have a lot of subscribers don't actually subscribe to a lot of channels? Maybe that's because they don't want the competition or are just selfish egotists?
A lot of the people on the most subscribed lists were probably still on that list when they had only 3 to 10 thousand subscribers, but nowadays, there are a lot of people who have made their way to that same point, yet it isn't considered a lot anymore. Yet, if you look at the people in the 3 to ten thousand range now, they do seem to have a lot of subscriptions much of the time.
How timely for me right now. I just cut my subscriptions down from 222 to 175 because the number was stressing me out (weekends are pretty much my only time to do real Tubing anymore). There were a few "big" channels on that list, but I also removed a lot of secondary channels that people seemed to have abandoned (one hadn't had a new upload in 11 months!). Didn't send any of those people messages saying I was taking the exit, tho.

I do this too! Peeps email back and say, why'd ya sub my videos they're crappy! I go back and find something positive! It seems like everyone has a cute baby, so im not lying, I find something nice! What's the difference? I thought the whole point of subscribing was to find your favorites more easily from the youtube homepage. There's nothing symbolic in that. If you disagree with your paper's editorial one day, do you delete your bookmark for it? Then add it again the next day if you agree. I think this is taking it way too seriously.
Great wisdom in your words here. This recent subject on Unsubscribe is refreshing. I can't watch everybody and this will bring the community up a notch. It might save those who really are talented but might feel the pressure of making vlogs too often and give them a break. But thats up to them huh? :) Peace

subscribing makes it easier for me to watch the videos i want to see. choosing not to "honor" with my subscription someone i watch but disagree with is just making more work for me. besides, i think it's healthy to have opposing opinions around us, in order to help keep us in check :)

Hey there V, you make some good points. I haven't vlogged yet mostly because I have a fettish for watching! It does take some form of courage or a special kind of crazy to Vlog but some are built for it. If I subscribe to a popular Youtuber(and it doesn't happen often)it is mostly because they have said something or done something that has made me smile, is thought provoking or warrants respect. However, I know my subscription is not really needed.

Watch a few vids. If LIKE, subscribe. If not move on. If subscribe keep watching. Comment. Rate. Keep me real. When sick of me, send me a note telling me so and ... move on.

We did this quite a while ago, our thought on this is as follows: we no longer can give a shit about those who don't give a shit about us...just that simple. Because...why? Why would we, you know. Otherwise, it becomes a case of the "star system". And...we don't believe in such a system at any time with any one, so...why would we suddenly give a fuck here at YouTube. We don't. That's our story and...we're sticking to it.

I've actually YT'd with this idea, since I joined. I sub to only a few "big" people, 'cause I actually enjoy them. But I have quite a few "nobody's"- like me!- & a few that don't have ANY vids, I just thought their comments were very intellegent.

My theory I don't subscribe to someone who is always going to be on the "most viewed" or "most discussed" lists. There is no reason to do it other than to show support or make it easy to locate this persons videos in which case it is not hard if they are all over the place. Good idea, but I think that YouTube needs to hide the subscriber statistics. There are a lot of people out there who are just subscribing to people hoping that someone will subscribe to them in return. I can't say this for sure, but I see it happen a lot on other sites like mySpace, Flickr, Livejournal, etc. It's a shame that subscriptions get used this way rather than their intended purpose. I only subscribe to users I truly love (or hate). I wonder how many others out there do the same thing?

Took your advice Victor, and went through my subscriptions. To tell you the truth some of the big named Youtubers are unsubscribed. Why subscribe when I can look on most responded or most discussed and find them anyway? Peace

Funny you bring this up.. I subscribed to alot of people..no one said anything until one lil guy WISHINGLAMP and he personally thanked me. I couldnt believe how nice that was. I think the ones that have so many subscribers dont care . Your right.

I hardly ever watch featured videos, or the most rated or most discussed. I like to go through the most recently added, and I've found a lot of cool people that and little or no subscribers that are interesting. Great idea Victor!

We did this quite a while ago, our thought on this is as follows: we no longer can give a shit about those who don't give a shit about us...just that simple. Because...why? Why would we, you know. Otherwise, it becomes a case of the "star system". And...we don't believe in such a system at any time with any one, so...why would we suddenly give a fuck here at YouTube. We don't. That's our story and...we're sticking to it.

Actually, I made 2 vids but the first one was way too long. I hate punishing people with loooong vids so I tried to speak quickly and get my point across. It does give the coked up impression doesn't it. (Impossible to get drugs safely in Japan, btw.) Thanks for the comment. Lol!

Okay first this guy says to subscribe to someone with whom you got nothing in common, then later he says unsubscribe from someone you now find you disagree with. WTF? Which one? Just subscribe to whoever ya feel like subscribing to, or don't. Whatever. The rating system doesn't work as well if you actively try to mess with it. A lotta people think Renetto's funny. That's why he's up there. That's it.

You Tubers with thousands of subscribers actually have an obligation to do what you did here. Great job. Also, those with tons of subscribers (whether fake or not), they automatically appear on the top pages anyway.

I've actually YT'd with this idea, since I joined. I sub to only a few "big" people, 'cause I actually enjoy them. But I have quite a few "nobody's"- like me!- & a few that don't have ANY vids, I just thought their comments were very intellegent.
I think I could un-sub GregSolomon, though. He seems to be a "shit-stirrer".

My theory I don't subscribe to someone who is always going to be on the "most viewed" or "most discussed" lists. There is no reason to do it other than to show support or make it easy to locate this persons videos in which case it is not hard if they are all over the place. So that is why I don't subscribe to you.

Hey man! As somebody with only 18 subscribers, who's videos I think are as good as the YouTube "all-stars", I applaud this effort! The big guys don't give a shit about me as a subscriber..but yet we talk about them as they're celebrities. It's time the little guy had a voice! Good idea, but I think that YouTube needs to hide the subscriber statistics. There are a lot of people out there who are just subscribing to people hoping that someone will subscribe to them in return. I can't say this for sure, but I see it happen a lot on other sites like mySpace, Flickr, Livejournal, etc. It's a shame that subscriptions get used this way rather than their intended purpose. I only subscribe to users I truly love (or hate). I wonder how many others out there do the same thing?

I wouldn't subscribe to someone just to make their day. I mean, if I'm not going to watch the vids, that makes no sense...
and actually I think if someone's really entertaining he will get a subscriber base without references from others.
I actually don't like recommendation-vids at all (seems to be a new trend..). I rather find people on YT by myself (f.e. your channel when you had 20 subs or so) ;)

Fair enough. But what I am saying is take a chance on someone who you might be on the fence with. That is what I do. I have also unsubscribed when that person begins to bore me... but by that time, they usually have many more people and no longer need the cheerleader. (Sorry about the rec video. It will NOT be the only thing I do. Just wanted to introduce an idea.)
