  • @GopalMeera The continuum of this piece seems to be in the related videos called "Jayanthi Kumaresh 2 (synchro...)" it would be marvellous if you could create a new video with both joined, so we can enjoy in one sitting? Much appreciated upload thank you all the same.

  • Lovely.. its one of my favourite instruments ... and Jayanthiji is wonderful and flawless as always :) Divine

  • I've falled in love with this instrument. I prefer it to the sitar. Although it takes it out of the tradition, this would be fantastic for jazz.

  • beautiful ...superb...wah

  • I only which the whole piece was here...

...oh and that people would stop analyzing it and simply enjoy.

    peace

  • Thanks

  • Which raga is this???

  • kIravANi

  • The sound is more full and resonating. But the finger is a bit harsh on the strings which is giving out a beating noice. Otherwise the playing is nice.

  • I'd like to know who is a maker of this vina ?

    Somebody know the name?

  • The Veena is of the socalled 'Srasvati Veena' type. It is made in Thanjavur (or Tanjore) by traditional makers of the instument with selected types of wood. It is available in a few musical instruments shops of Chennai, Bangalore, etc.

  • SARASVATI VEENA type (I made a misake in the spelling)

  • Gala gala mahamed g-had!!!!!

  • la ve be na se ga ubav

  • Very very good raga.

  • scalloped frets strat guitar =P =P =P

  • Kiravani is a little boring IMO. She should play Hindolam or Darbari Kanada.. Now THAT would be soul-stirring!

  • Those who ticked your comment as -ve, are idiots. I don't see what is wrong in his opinion! It may be boring for him, he is fan of Hindolam/darbari, so what?! Why you guys are so idiotically intolerant?

Would the ass-holes respond to my question?

  • saying "i dont like it" and saying "she shouldnt have played that song" are two entirely different things...hes being subjective and stupid,as a matter of fact im gonna give it a -ve too! :D

  • That is his wish, who cares?! Why should you scratch your ass for that?!!! :O Funny creatures! Like internet Aurangajebs

  • " gadhaa kyaa jaanE adrak kaa swaad? "

    - What a donkey knows about taste of Ginger? :))

  • BEAUTIFUL. Pure feeling free of the constraints of Western music. That is the beauty of the alap. A lot of people have commented on this video saying "I want a vina blah blah blah" I love the vina too but I wouldn't get one unless I seriously meant to LEARN it. It's too serious and auspicious an instrument to just frig with (and REALLY expensive).

  • well said, I agree!

  • They mean, they want Vina as a decorative piece in their drawing room. Not for playing. You couldn't understand them, that's ur problem! :))

  • To those who have been talking about Western analogues: this scale is actually common in Western music, where it's called "harmonic minor". It's prominent in both classical and popular genres. Though of course a raga is more than a scale, the basic tonality should be pretty familiar.

  • spellbinding!, is this keeravani?

  • hell yes. and i don't even know why I said it with that much gusto.

  • 1.Forget the "western" music! Page, Hendriw, etc it's a big rubbish.

    2. This is a REAL music and Jayanthi is one of the most INTELLIGENT player of the world (the others are in Tamil Nadu too, like E.Gaayathri and Rajhesh Vaidhya)

  • what is the instrument the other girl is using ?

  • its called tampura...

  • What a beautiful instrument the Veena is. Jayanthiji's playing is transfixing.

  • *Of course that song isn't of Western origin, but still, it's pretty cool to hear Beck go off like he does on that one. Pretty unique.

  • Amazing...the closest thing I can think of in Western Music is a Jeff Beck song, called "Nadia" (if anyone's interested). When I hear one, I always think of the other.

  • Amazing :) This video vividly speaks about her musical lineage

  • Best play of music.Best wishes. Thanks

  • Spellbinding.... :(

  • beautiful!

  • anyone know where I can buy a CD with nothing but Veena? I was thinking my local bodega.

  • Jayanthiji is amazing!

  • Beautiful !!

  • Fantastic

  • Excellent! Jayanthy plays with so much 'ease' and gives authentic carnatic music. Great Balachandar has trained many such students I suppose! Thanks for sharing these Gems with all of us! - Sarma from Melbourne

  • Thank you very much Gopal. I am only a lover of classical music, but I liked it much. Very good school. Is there any recording of her teacher?

  • Her teacher is the legendary S. Balachander (Who is my maanasiga guru as well) - please check out the Golden Throne series for Veena S. Balachander's music - rare but heart capturing.

  • Gopal:

I would like to buy an instrument like this, does anyone knows by chance that how I can get one...and how much it would cost approx.

  • You can buy an instrument,

But you can not buy expertise on it!

Cost?! If you steal it from a music shop, it won't cost anything!

  • this is classical.

  • Incredible!!!I want this instrument. Can you halp me to buy it the same quality?

  • ah. I want to hear the rest! mesmerizing is right.

  • Quite beautiful and austere playing.

  • I am jealous at the ease with which veena players can electrify their instruments. I wish Sitar had an easy solution.

  • what's the name of the other instrument

    somebod please

  • Tambura

  • lol quote:

    "deepislandboy

Damn i wanna see the calluses on her fingers! lol"

    i second this! lol

  • Breathtaking performance, namaste. And what a beautiful Veena.

  • yes it was, mate. mesmerising while high. pretty good when sober as well.

  • Oh, it's excellent. I just have a short attention span. Weed fixes that up pretty well though. I once found myself staring at the ingredients on a packet of instant noodles for three minutes.

  • THANK'S FOR SHARING: GREAT!!!

  • That looks like a "chromatic" type sitar, I would be very interested to know more about your instrument.

  • its not a sitar, its actually a veena. Played mostly in South India.

  • It is called a veena . it is a sacred string instrument from south india . origin from Maata Saraswathi ..Jay Maata Ki :)

  • very subtle and beautiful. keep it up

  • sorry but im kinda new to this. whats the instrumetnt in the abckground called? i know its playing bass but i can barely hear it.

  • It's a tamboura. It's the drone instrument used in Carnatic and Hindustani musics, although there can be differences among them. The player plays a specified pattern, usually, PA, sa, sa, SA (or sol, do', do', do)

So, it's sort of playing bass, but you should think of it as a drone instrument because that is all that it can do. It sets the mooooood.

  • i see. it would be nice if it was amplified a bit more though. :)

  • Damn i wanna see the calluses on her fingers! lol

  • moving

  • Nothing like this......the nextperson after sri Chittibaabu sir.....

  • Have you heard Rajesh Vaidhya ? He is Brilliant as well. Just Like chittibabu, his guru.

  • yaa.have heard him play too.hes brilliant.He has inherited Sri chittibaabu's style.

  • what a happiness !

  • this is exquisite

i really love her understated, quite and non flamboyant playing style

  • WoW!

  • Just Terrific!!

  • brilliant.....I saw her in concert here in OTtawa. Excellent musician. Please post more if you have them!
