  • I do hope so :0( But I'm willing to go through the lengthy education to help women and do what I love!

  • Tangled-There are a huge group of us who would love to be just a "midwife", however, because of the AMA's red tape, we are not allowed to do what we love and are required to go through a nursing program to get to where we want to be.

  • @KateinCT thats really unfortunate. Hopefully that will change in the future...

  • Nursing and Midwifey are two distintly different professions. There are Nurses and there are Midwives. There is no such thing as a " Nurse Midwife".

  • you need to go research midwifery because ther are 2 kinds of midwifes one who is a Licenced midwife and a nurse midwife!!!! I work in a OBGYN office we do back up for nurse midwifes and im in school to become a nurse midwife! Go do your research!!!!!!!

  • I'm presuming you're from the U.S. where only 6% of deliveries are carried out by midwifes. You are studying to become an obstetric nurse. Here in Europe, a midwife is an independent practitioner. Birth is a normal physiological process, not an illness. Nurses care for sick people. Maybe you should do your own research?...

  • @TheTangledupinblue

Certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who have graduated from a nurse-midwifery education program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME)

Certified midwives are individuals who have or receive a background in a health related field other than nursing and graduate from a midwifery education program accredited by ACME
