  • Very informative to noobs.

  • It's amazing how long timing belts last, especially considering how much force they take, and the temperature extremems they endure. The t-belt in my '89 Pontiac LeMans broke once: like the one shown in this video, several of the teeth stripped off; but fortunately, it's not an "interference" engine, so the valves and the pistons CAN'T hit one another. Just towed it home and put on a new belt.

  • Do not be CHEAP and change your timing belt before it breaks and create lots of headaches.

Do not attempt to do it yourself unless you are a trained technician. Remember being cheap cost a lot more.

  • Get a Heynes Manual - they always suggest belt changes at 40-60k or once every six years, because the belt will perish. Never seen me wrong.

  • i drive mercedes no belt to change :)

  • just buy a new motor and swap it because i think it comes out way cheaper depending on the car

  • i wish i would of seen this b4 my timing chain broke i knew it was time to replace it but i did not listen to my mechanic when it broke it messed up the valves and heads $4900 to fix it. would of only been 1300 ps dont buy a jaguar unless your rich

  • Why dont they make those belts thicker, then they wouldnt break as early. Looks like this belt is the same as anyother belt on the car, its much more crucial to have this belt not break. I wanna see a 2 inch thick belt and change it at 200,00 miles.

  • they should go back to chains if you ask me! call this progress. my arse it is, im sick of em breaking!

  • Absofuckinglutely right, man!!!!

  • chains work very well. my car has 122k miles, and still the original timing chain, and it shows no signs of wear whatsoever. i plan on replacing it soon just to be on the safe side tho.

  • @pepene93 While chains don't break they stretch as they get older and eventually if they get loose enough it can jump a tooth causing timing problems. But yes they do last longer.

  • @000thisone000 because just like tires they will start to crack and wear anyway timing chains are better but still need to be replaced

  • @000thisone000 That would probably help, but as you saw in this video, it's as much a matter of the size and strength of the "teeth" on the belt, as it is of the "backing" of the belt. 60k miles is a long time for a piece of rubber to last, especially under such extreme conditions.

  • isnt every part on a car "amater of if not a matter of when"

  • Supposed to change the belt at 105,000, it broke at 89,000 and VW won't cover it? Kind of like the sludge problem afflicting so many cars. They don't care if you had the oil changes done on schedule, they won't warranty the blown motor. Automakers are the biggest crooks after banks and insurance companies.

  • So, can you change a timing belt yourself? because i do NOT have 500 bucks to spend...

  • Changing the timing belt yourself requires some heavy duty wrenching and tools. If you have no experience with working on cars it could very well be a nightmare. check out some how to videos on replacing the timing belt. I have no experience with cars but Im handy with a wrench, but after seeing these videos I said HELL NO.

  • this just happend to my focus a couple weeks ago and still havent gotten it fixed... shit sucks and not cheap at all!

  • You should just buy a new engine it far cheaper to get a new engine then get a engine re build....This happened to my Nissan Micra but micras have a Chain not a belt the damage from it snapping was very bad second hand engine cost me 250 but I guess if you have a new Focus like an ST then crap the car lol

  • HAAAAA!!!! Right now as Ihear this I"m doing my bmw head gasket, and I guess right on when I ask my mechanic to go head and do the timing belt while at it.darn it! now I'm going to ask him to do the water pump also so I don't have to worry a bout the water pump.wow this is like freaking cancer,It does make sense though for a few hundred dollars more,OH WELL.

  • This is really good advice. Lexus says to change at 90000 miles, I changed it at 90000!

  • Nice Video. Check out TubeViews (dotnet) If you need your video exposed, It has really helped me a bunch. Be blessed!

    Nice.

  • Yep that happend to me a few years ago and my car only had 51,000 on it and I was traveling at highway speeds. So it really sucks when you don't know if the belt is a cheapo or not. My engine was cooked.

  • that happened to our stratus and it blew up so bad my dad hered the belt break and then the rods broke and the pistons snapped in half and it cooked 7k worth of engine thar.

  • This sucks, they don't show how to change it.
