  • man i love as

  • Sharon Bryant was CLEARLY the VOICE of Atlantic Starr. Songs like "Love Me Down", "Circles" "When Love Calls", "Let's Get Closer", "Send For Me", "Touch a Four Leaf Clover" along with Wayne's vocals-AWESOME!! That was A.S. at it's BEST. So much soul & passion! The sound went downhill once Barbara joined and the group they went all pop with Secret Lovers, Always & the rest of that sugar-coated fluff. MISS U SHARON!!!!

  • @sda1225 I feel the same way. Neither Sharon Bryant nor Atlantic Starr could truly survive without the other.

  • I absolutely love this jam. This was the first song that made me fall in love with Atlantic Starr. Sharon Bryant was the best female member--HANDS DOWN!! I heard Barbara Weathers on a radio station in Greensboro, NC last year and she never discussed her departure from Atlantic Starr---now we know why!! Those Lewis brothas should be kicking themselves in their own asses for allowing their egos to be the demise of this fantastic group.

(In my Fred Sanford voice)-----"YOU BIG DUMMIES" LMAO!!!

  • Great unsung show

  • @duncan88100 You are right. I really wanted to know what happened to Sharon. I used to try to sing Circles just like she did, but I could not hit the high notes, LOL. In my prior comment, I stated that Barbara seemed to have had a bad attitude, but that was when I saw them perform in 1987. The show really went that way. From seeing Unsung, the brothers seemed to have had big ego problems. What a shame. They were a dynamic group, but their own worst enemy.

  • 1982is a very special year for me. I was born October 1982! by the time 87' rolled around I was singing all my daddys records from Atlantic Starr to Star Point. All this music holds a very special place in my heart because it reminds me of time when my family was happiest and we were all together as one. Real Music here that captures the moment unlike no other!

  • NOW THIS IS REAL MUSIC!!

  • Sharon Bryant brought so much flavor to all the songs that she song on that words cannot begin to describe how incredible her voice is. Wherever she is, I hope she is still doing her thing and I hope Atlantic Starr has some sort of reunion real soon!

  • @mellowbreestro they are still playing as I watched the and loose ends play in london

  • @mellowbreestro they are still playing as I watched the and loose ends play in london

  • @mellowbreestro From seeing them on Unsung, it is highly unlikely that they will have a reunion...too much bad blood. You are right. Sharon was the voice, of all the females in the group.

  • LOVE IT !!

  • Need she say anthing more than "Love Me Down"....

  • There was no better lead female singer for Atlantic Starr than Sharon Bryant. I want her back.

  • @RaceWme You can say that again. I stopped listening to them when Sharon left.

    Her voice was sooooo unique.

  • Awesome, i drive a Capri & this goes down great so thanks to cirrusmajor, DJKay.

  • @Daz17100 :A Capri eh with your jam's playing brings back good times for me !

  • I say again her' s was the voice......and thanks again for the post...good looking out...Dune716

  • Always felt that of all the female soloists for Atlantic Starr, no one could compare to Sharon Bryant. "Love Me Down" is but a taste of her vocal talents.

  • OMG, this song takes me back....

  • Thanks for the Post.....Sharon's voice was the right fit for the STARR....:)

  • @dune716 it sure was.

  • i remember buying this record at the beginning of high school (1982)...this song still gives me chills! love this song so much!

    maryfisher

  • I love this song...thanks for posting it

  • luv this, thanx

  • If you know this song you were probably born in the 60's or 70's like me. I love listening to this song and many more like it. They still sound great but make you realises how time flies. Great memories and a great decade to be born. Thanks so much for posting. What did we do before you tube. Oh yeah, I remember, I spent 100's of hours searching through record shops looking for rare grooves, now they're all on here! Maxeen - the last time.

  • @haveagoodforever 1966 right here

  • @haveagoodforever i love this song and i was born in the 90's actually :D

  • What a great classic song!!!

  • I really miss groups and good music like this

  • sound like kool and the gang influence

  • Brilliance by name; Brillance by nature. A marvellous album, and this track is awesome.

  • so much soul.....

  • Oh my gosh...this is my favorite Atlantic Starr joint. I mean, this is O.G. Atlantic Starr! The way Sharon Bryant sings this makes me pee in my pants to this day! (Not that peeing on yourself is a bad thing in and of itself...) This is Ol' Skool Sexy 101 right here.

  • I'm listening to this on some cheap computer speakers. It's bringing back too many memories because they sound so much like my cheap stereo system i had in my bedroom back in 1982. Ahh, the 9th grade.

  • Sharon Brown was one of our best voices of the '80's, DAMN I miss her!

  • @msOctober12

her name is Sharon Bryant! and yes..she was bad. The other vocalist that came after her was Barbra Weathers..she's badd too!

  • this song is older than me but i love it though!!!!

  • This song returns you to a time where life was simple and you meant what you said. In listening to Sharon Bryant's voice, you feel so much love, it's easy to become the person she's singing to. And the music just enhance her ability. Songs like this are very crafty. I miss this era.

  • I really love this track. It always reminds me of the good times I have , and I had. Really a wonderful track.

    <3

  • real music lol ...love it....

  • This is another quiet storm hit,

  • This Intro was beautiful!

  • That's What Im Talking about

  • key words love me down and lets go for what we know and then love me some more you can't go wrong with those words

  • This tune has elements of Circles and When Love Calls.

If you mixed those tunes up you get Love Me Down !

That ain't a bad thing as Circles and When Love Calls are classics.

  • @oldskoolbwoy Yeah I use to always say that those songs sounded a lot a like but they also had their own distinct message. I really like Atlantic Starr a lot back in the day.

  • Reminds me of cruisin' around the freeways of L.A. The hot California sun mixed with the soulful sounds of this song, plus music by The O'Jays, Whispers, Carrie Lucas, Shalamar...on KJLH and KACE! The tracks were hot and STILL ARE!

  • @gregcervantez I hear you,i grew up in culver city,i saw them perform at the Santa Monica civic when this album came out early 82,you would have never known it was live, they sounded so good.Remember when KACE use to play ACES back to back,or how about the traffic jam, that was the shit,i wish KACE would have stuck around and got rid of KJLH.

  • @jayanthony5060

I'm jealous - I was what, 3, in 1982? I lived in Palms outside of downtown Culver City, just moved a year ago to Australia...can't wait to get back home Stateside :D Mx

  • @jayanthony5060 I wish I had seen AS with Sharon. My sister & I saw them in 1987 @ the Oakland Coliseum. They were boooed thru the whole show b/c not only were they an hour+ late, but they came after Patti LaBelle. Their performance, as far as their songs go were good - sound-wise & all, but my sister observed them well. She said that they were fighting onstage. It was disappointing, b/c I really did want to see AS, w/Sharon b/c Barbara seemed to have have a bad attitude.

  • @jayanthony5060 I wanted to also say that Sharon seemed more humble, friendly, and down-to-earth. If you missed them on Unsung, this segment will come back on this weekend.

  • I've always loved Soul/RB since I was a kid and Im a white dude maybe Im in the wrong skin

  • maybe you're black and don't know it. i've seen shows where they test people's DNA to do geneaology and many white people have black in them and don't look it.

  • @wildone106 Nothing wrong with that just as some blacks like rock and classical music. All music genres know no such shallow thing as the color of one's skin.

  • Interesting, 82 was like the last year for the truly soulful sound. After that I had to really dig for deep, moving vocals/grooves.

  • grown folks music.

  • Ahhhh....music. Real music, real romance/love songs, not the trash they make now! I've had this song stuck in my head for weeks and couldn't remember what it was called, and found "Love You Down" instead (also very cool,) but this song is boss. Smooth, powerful, easy to listen to. Yeah, I can deal with this.

  • I want u to love me down and lets go for what we know. Oh, can u get with it, Thank you for this post, love Sharon and the lyrics speak Love,Passion, Intimacy!

  • Best parts of the song are the bass at 0:12 & altered hook starting at 4:04.

  • Great soul tune this one. I love Atlantic Starr's Brilliance and Radiance LPs. Sharon Bryant is definitely a great singer and truly excelled on Circles and Touch a Four Leaf Clover. I have to say Barbara Weathers did a terrific job on their As the Band Turns LP. Silver Shadow is a quality soul track!

  • Awesome song....Sharon Bryant's voice just turns me to jelly....Thanks for this brilliant post

  • Why did Sharon replace Barbra?

  • Sharon came first and was replaced by Barbara Weathers around 1984/5? Still cannot understand why Sharon didn't become an all time great. Her voice sends shivers down my spine...

  • you got it right, I couldn't find the words to describe how her voice affects. She is amazing

  • I remember this one, it was one of the best. The 80's had so many great artist, i wish the singers today would get back to playing music instead of copying the music

  • I agree Sharon bryant soooo...underated for sure! Best vocalist Atlantic starr has employed, everyone else cmmercial and weak vocalist. No disrespect to the other female. luv yah grl. I loved your solo debut too.

  • That's what they were looking for -Commercial & Weak: Ergo Crossover!

The Commercial & Weak singer you're referring to was Barbara Weathers.

    I stopped listening to A S then!

  • Barbara was ok, they should of kept both of them.

  • Sing it Sharon Bryant! :-) Fave ATLANTIC STARR tune! Thanks for posting!

  • Love sharon .... her voice was so captivating

  • classic tune takes me back

  • the song is the opposite of the hit, circles.

  • Great song

  • Quality soul music from a qualify soul band. Sharon Bryant was also a VERY underrated vocalist.

  • always type this: &fmt=18 at the end of any url on youtube for stereo

  • A truly wonderful track!!! Definately one of my favourites from this band :-)

  • Killer

    Well Done

  • This is one of my favorite tracks from the 1982 "Brilliance" album (cd), has their signature smooth sound, and soulful vocals that were a staple from them in the 80's, fantastic R&B from a fantastic R&B band, without a doubt!!

  • Love is a beutuful expression that could never be out done, because it conquers all.

  • TAKES ME BACK IN THE DAY......

    THANKS
