These guys are a pretty decent modern art rock band. Sure Wilson is no Peter Gabriel but he's a better singer than the usual shitholes nowadays. Plus he's better than Mick Jagger. But then again a monkey being castrated is better than Mick Jagger.
Awesome song. Awesome singer. And I thought the his guitarist did a top notch jobs.
All the the negative people slagging them off. Show us your works of genius or STFU.. At least he's made a contribution to the world of music. Your just sitting in your rooms beating off. Not much talent involved in that.
This is a good rendition, I hated the fade out on the album.
Ignoring the sniping - 'Uncertain Weather' from the Wilson fronted Genesis album 'Calling All Stations' is a superb song and in the upper pantheon of songs that Genesis put to record.
How disrespectful - I'm a young guitar player of nearly ten years experience. Having even only seen Ray live on only one occasion, I can cite him as a great musician. Someone who's talent I greatly admire. He's making a living from writing and playing music - I'm sure there are plenty of people who wish they had enough talent to do the same
He should call all his tours 'stars in your eyes' and be done with it, I mean one minute its Stiltskin, then its Peter Gabriel tribute band, the world of Genesis, then Ray Wilson ex, ex ,ex this and that!! All with the same musicians, hes surrounded by musicians with equally ne self respect, so what do you expect. A good example of this is the Polish Rock festival, where all the other bands are thrashing it out and Stiltskin are playing 'in the air tonight', got a bit confused there Ray!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I have to say Ray Wilson is a very talented and thought-provoking performer. Has anyone heard These Are the Changes? His brief tenure with Genesis was interesting and enjoyable. Genesis fans have often been tough customers, as Phil will remember when he stepped up to the microphone in Trick of a Tail. Phil put a lot of energy into the band but that does not take away from Ray the artist.
Also, if Genesis aren't going to play songs from CAS, someone might as well. I'm glad the songs are still being heard. "Calling All Stations" is a great song. Fuck you haters.
And she followed me Til finally I sold my old guitar And she tried to help me understand That I'd never be a star Rock and roll I give you All the best years of my life All the dreamy sunny Sundays All the magic moon at nights Though I never had the chance of makin' it with you I thank the lord for giving me The little bit I knew And I was always one step behind you
Ruined Genesis?...last time I looked they were doing quite alright....they tried something different with Ray ..OK you think it didn't work, fair enough...now get over it...they have.
I can't actually comprehend how sad and petty some people can be.
Come on gang lets go and Ray bash!! then we can steal his lunch money and go and hang around on street corners drinking cheap cider...In reality I suspect you're a fully grown adult with a very sad life..sort it out.
Its funny, you alway read about singers having some kind of magnetic auro about them, when you look at Ray its like a big cloud of depression and his facial movements when he sings really make him look like in bowel pain!He will always have fans because alot of people suffer from OCD and this is how they channel their energies!
That is because you fail to understand Ray's passion. Ray confronts the difficult important issues of life in his songs, and life is a serious business.
Look, Rays lyrics on an intelligent level fall very short. If you are a love sick puppy who constantly needs the self obsessed moment of feeling sorry for yourself because of some departing love relationship, yes you could say his songs mean something, but really once you get over the age of 14, you should really be writing more about the real world. What about the song FAME, you cannot tell me that this song and the whole concept, is not so clichy its bad!
This song wasn't written by Ray Wilson, it was written by Tony Banks & Mike Rutherford for the "Genesis" Calling All Stations album before Ray arrived. But I agree, the lyrics he does write are not all that. His talents are very minimal.
I knew that, I was replying to someone about his own songs in general. Even if I never knew that though, I would have guessed because this song is not about love or how famous and lonely Ray's hard life is, as seems to be the theme of most of his own crap!
Average, now your giving him credit. This guy is way below average and anyone that says different is either a eastern european, just watch the eurovision song contest to see what they classify as good, or Ray. Lets face it he's on here all the time laying down the comments. Check out his comment about himself on one of the other pages his name LOVERAY2, its hilarious saying how talented and spiritual he is with many language under his belt.Nice try, but the only language you speak is bullshit!
objectiveear, check out the stiltskin track FAME, for a laugh. I mean this guy actually thinks hes in a position where he can look upon people as a lesser talent than his. The song also highlights that he thinks he is famous. It also resembles an eighties death metal track ie contemporary german metal. Hes got to be running out of that Genesis retainer by now ...surely nobody can be buying his self penned shite?
I take this guy for what he is - a decent strong vocalist who can front a rock band.I think he does his best with what he's got. That era moved on yes but what else is he going to promote that's his market. His songwriting it might cater to a foreign audience but he can gig and keep a low key career going which I think is all he cares about.I definately rate him above a 'pub singer' and i'm curious to find out which Edinburgh Music Scene he's belittling? What scene??
I take it you have never met Ray, or you would realise this guy not only thinks hes the best vocalist in the world, he also believes he still has what it takes to break into mainstream music, why else would somebody name a song RAZORLIGHT, if not for youtube hits....as though fans of RL, would actually like Rays weak, dated nonsence!!
So he's arrogant then and diluded? That is exactly the character I'd expect sorry I think those traits are all over the music business.I don't think getting Razorlight fans on board is his tactic but i see your point how he's maybe used a current band name as a song track to get more coverage but who knows.I like marmite!!
Actually Wilson is so dumb that he probably just plane forgot where the name "Razorlight" popped into his little brain from.
You can envisage the process; "what shall I call me new classic song? I know Razorlight, like a light what cuts things" Another
band member says "No Ray, ya canne call it that mon, its the name of another group" To which Wilson says "I'm in charge here, do not argue with greatness" What a TWAT
the dynamic of the song has been lost by playing it down in key, but great to hear it live again, would of loved to hear Phil sing all the songs off cas.
i like this version... but as a band, Genesis does this sooo much better.... like the guitar solo, Mike rutherford does something for this song that this guy doesn't.... smae with the keyboards.... there's just something about a part that is played by Mike Rutherford or Tony banks.... their parts on a Genesis song can only be played by them for it to sound 100% satisfactory to me... but these guys were alright... not knocking them, it just sounded like a good cover....
Awesome quality - thanks for posting this! I wonder why this guy's not more famous. Also, is Stilskin always this low-key, or was the crowd dead or something? Still, beautifully performed and recorded.
Strangly, but I did not feel any drive from this version of video.
Ray Willson looks a bit tired.

Ray is awesome, stiltskin also is and calling all stations was a great album on it's own or against the genesis library.
