@zxstanger, where did you dyno your truck and how much did they charge? I live in AZ also and have the 4" heartthrob with the injen intake, I wouldn't mind seeing what my EB is puttin down.
Also, if you youtube ecoboost Airaid install, that is my truck they are doing the install video and dyno on. I still had the stock exh on at the time. I hate those big mirrors.
All, please do not confuse my dyno numbers with how your truck will perform with this exhaust. All trucks are different, all dyno's are different as well as environmental conditions. Unfortunately making a call for new bolts was not an option for me. I was across town with my truck on a lift and I had already removed my stock exh. The ball and socket was on the stock setup but the mating flange on my heartthrob appears to be a socket. So I have a socket to socket connection.
in two separate tests on two separate vehicles, we saw just under +40 rwhp gain at peak. i have the dyno charts posted on my website, both vehicles were 100% stock, no other modifications to them. that said, the previous poster in this thread saw less in his personal dyno test. we tested twice because we were surprised by the gains we saw, we wanted to confirm the results. i only sell this kit with the muffler, i have not tested with a straight pipe instead of the muffler.
im just curious if there would be more whistle sound, i kno when i had 5" on my 6.0 it whistled then i put straight pip in place of flow thru muffler eally whistled
I noticed a lot more turbo whistle coming out of the tail pipe, but only a little more inside the cab while driving. Ford really does a nice job of insulating the cab, so not a lot of exhaust noise is present in the cab.
My dynojet numbers are: stock 314/357 and after installing exhaust within an hour of the stock dyno: 331/365. My truck had around 800 miles on it and it was 96 degrees and 23% humidity here in Arizona. 4 door, shortbed, 3.73 gears.
The exhaust sounds good. No drone at highway speed. I have had it on my truck for about 8K miles. The connection where the new exhaust meets the stock exhaust is an absolutely horrible design with poor fit. My kit came with the wrong sized bolts so be ready to make a drive to the store to get the correct bolts. I had to put a few small spot welds on the slip joints since I couldn't get the bolts tight enough to stop it from moving. Glad I got kit on sale.
thanks for your feedback, glad you like the sound. sorry for the wrong bolts, we did hear from a couple of customers who got the wrong bolts. a quick phone call to us, we got them the proper bolts, problem solved. the flanged connection is how Ford makes it, it is similar to a 99-08 GM, a ball and socket fitting that we have had no issues with sealing. The clamps are premium Accuseal clamps, and if tightened properly do an O.E. quality job of sealing. If your issues aren't resolved, contact us.
I did not notice any droning or resonating at low rpms in the two test sessions. In the video the windows were closed. We get mostly positive feedback from customers on the sound, but keep in mind, this kit will not make your Ecoboost sould like a V8, it is a unique sound.
With the 4" kit does the truck drone/resonate very much at the lower rpm's? I'm not worried about it in neutral while reving, I'm just wondering about highway driving when it goes into O/D at a steady cruse rpm. It's hard to tell by the vid. Were the windows up or down a little to help with the sound while recording? I'm very interested in this kit! Thanks
The cat-back dual kit is # 2004580. I didn't make a video for it because frankly I don't like the sound out of it, the power gains are half of what the 4" cat-back 4004580 kit is, and I don't recommend the cat-back dual kit for the Ecoboost F150. We designed the 4" kit because we were not happy with the sound out of the dual kit.
@heartthrobexhaust can you describe the sound you did not like? I was wanting to get a high flow down pipe and do a true dual with an x or h pipe (not sure which to do). I had a true dual aeroturbine on my cammed 05 F150 5.4 and it sounded amazing. I have videos on my page.
The 2-1/2" dual kit sounded like the buzzing v6 sound that I, and a lot of people, find annoying. I do have a sound clip of the 2004580 cat-back dual kit on my website as well.
We haven't done any fuel economy testing, few customers will leave a vehicle with us long enough to do proper testing. Robert at RPM Magazine did some testing for us: I ran the truck along a route that combined 25% city driving and 75% highway. I ran the speed limit during each test, being sure to duplicate the run. With stock exhaust, the truck got 18.1 MPH and after installing the Hearththrob cat-back Ecoboost system, it got 19.2! That's impressive, and beyond my expectations, job well-done
we have a cat-back dual kit # 2004580 that fits this vehicle. the power gains on the dyno were about half of the 4" # 4004580, and the sound out of the 2.5" dual kit we were not happy with. we were very pleased with the sound and power gains of the 4" # 4004580 on the Ecoboost F150.
this 4" single sounds far superior to the 2-1/2" dual # 2004580. we developed the 4" single because while pleased with the +17 rwhp on the ecoboost with the 2004580, the sound out of this i would describe as "meh". the 4" single at the tail pipe you can really hear the turbo whistle, a cool sound, but still very reasonable and a quiet performance sound. but don't misunderstand, this vehicle with this 4" does not sound like a V8. it is pretty unique.
I haven't see the underside of the Flex as of yet, but doubtful we could fit a 4" on it. The Edge/MKT models with the Ecoboost do not have adequate room for the 4".
We use a Dynapak dyno for our dyno testing. This type of dyno the wheels are removed and the dyno is bolted solid to the hubs. It provides very accurate and consistent runs, no wheel slippage and we can't mess with the straps by making them too tight or loose, which can cause some variation between tests.
This same kit also fits the 5.0L as well, though is noticeably more aggressive in sound than the Ecoboost, and we were only able to pick up about +4.5 rwhp on the 5.0L with this kit. Ford did a good job of tuning the factory exhaust for the 5.0L, but left a lot on the table for the Ecoboost. As so often happens, to save on cost, they used essentially the same cat-back for the 5.0L and the Ecoboost from the factory.
Thank you for the quick response. Your exhaust system sounds better than other competitors so far. The others had more of the V6 buzz that drownded out the sound of the turbos. Got to hear the turbos! I'm sold on 40+ gains. Thanks again.
All dyno testing we do is on 100% stock vehicles, the only fair way to do before and after testing to show the gains from our exhaust systems. I would imagine a cold air intake would also contribute higher gains, but check to see if a tuner or custom tune is needed, and if any potential warranty issues arise with it. Our cat-back exhaust kit is EPA emissions legal and won't void your Ford Warranty.
Great results! Was this dyno done with exhaust kit alone or was a cold air intake also added? I'm thinking about purchasing this exhaust kit with the Injen cold air intake. I would love to know the dyno results of that combo on the ecoboost.
overall this is a performance exhaust that is on the quiet side, more so than most performance exhaust systems, throughout most of the cruising speed between 50 and 90, with no drone or resonance. the twin turbos sound really cool out the tail pipe. overall reasonably quiet, but it still has a performance sound.
yes, 2012 models are included.

@heartthrobexhaust would this system also work for a 2012 f150 with ecoboost?

this system is epa emissions legal (cat-back, starts at the 2 bolt flange after the converters) and will not void the Ford warranty.

Not in the forseeable future for a stainless kit for this application.
