I'm amazed people can think we need to stop helping the world and allow it to burn. We tried that a long time ago just before WW2. That allowed Hitler to gain so much power that even more Americans died trying to stop him. A similar situation would be if your neighbor's house was on fire, and you said, "Eh, not my problem. Why should I call the fire department." Then the fire spreads to your hose. Now it IS your problem.

@mkrivell1 First of all, WWII happened b/c of WWI, the austerity measures placed on Germany after the Treaty of Versailles, desperate Germans who were starving and looking for "help", and a slew of other reasons. Don't mix helping others with politics. Politics forces the issue and does so poorly. SS, Medicare, etc....all these things are well intended, but are relative disasters. Truly helping someone is done through charity, kindness, respect, and understanding. All things Rand believed in.

What we are tired of if regulations and taxes to take from those who make something of their lives and having it be given to people who refuse to take jobs and support themselves. If you read Virtue of Selfishness you will see that Rand addresses your definition of selfishness on the first page. Clearly you don't know anything of Objectivism. Oye, Objectivism.
