@SweetJaneofGoth There is no banjo here: Bechet ss, Marcel Bornstein cnt, Jean-Louis Durand tb, André Rewéliotty cl, Yannick Singéry p, Gorges "Zozo" d'Halluin b, Michel Pacout dr, recorded June 16 1953.
I still have this Vogue 45 rpm. Recorded during a concert at the "Salle Pleyel" in Paris with Claude Luter and his orchestra. Royal Garden Blues is on the other side.
That trumpet player got down for his too! Man I love the notes he hit.
Sidney Bechet was born too early
I would've loved to sit in a jam session with him, Louis Armstrong, call up Buddy Rich on drums from his era and I'll take Stanely Clarke for my bass blayer and either Wes Montgomery or George Benson for my guitar player.
@Abriggs500 The French called im LE DIEU (God) and in America he was forgotten after his absence between 1925 and 1930 although he was the first great jazz soloist (before Armstrong).
I'm new to youtube...but I've been told that the trumpet player is my father...does anyone have info on the band members? or the location and year of this?
@stainjer Sorry, I strongly doubt that the trumpet player is your father because he is French and you seem to be American.
Personnel: Marcel Bornstein co, Jean-Louis Durand tb, André Réweliotty cl, Yannick Singéry p, George d'Halluin b, Michel Pacout dm, and of course Sidney Bechet ss. Marcel Bornstein, by the way, still plays with Olivier Franc's Bechet Memorial Band where Olivier plays Bechet's Buescher Soprano of 1923.
i love bechet - he is so swinging - and this band is awesome - andre reveliotty's band also backed hot lips page on a memorable session ("last call for alcohol") and like the luter and braslawsky bands knew Bechet;s taste very well, superb performance
OMG Incredible. The best musical video I've ever seen. Even better then Lady Ga Ga latest crotch shot. Sorry for the satire but we are losing a sense of what great art and artists are about. Behold Sidney Bechet. Thanks for this great post. Thanks for the french for nurturing this great artist when times were tough in the USA. Merci Merci Merci riskrapper
How long can YOU hold onto a high A?He was rambunctious, belligerant and articulate as well.He plays that thing like its an extension of himself.True genius.

It is wonderful, the music, Sidney the French audience, and the other musicians the time and France when it was made. Thanks for posting it.
