  • Why do you ask, two dogs?

  • Is it better to cook barra, or any fish for that matter, with or without honey?

  • this song is just so heartbreaking, especially considering archie roach's struggles with anger and domestic violence. it's a sad thing, that someone can recognise the behavior but still be helpless to change their own reactions.

  • Jesus is your brother ,God is your Father what are you waiting for??

  • My ex-sister-in-law looked to this song as her inspiration to walk away from an abusive relationship with my brother, which came about because we saw our own mother go through it. The first time we heard this together we both were crying by the end because it rang so true to the current situation with her and my brother. This song like many of Archie's touches your soul, You can really feel what he is singing about. P.s-Quit the fighting on here. ONE LOVE <3 :)

  • Britain: Worlds Worst Mass-Murderer - those swine thugs have so much to answer for.

RIP Louis St John, a stolen Aboriginal boy, run over by british immigrants in Perth and then left to die in the street. The racist ambulance curs, reckon he was drunk and left him to die from his injuries. Google his name.

Only british vermin can be so evil! Only the british!

  • @nomendegurre Bind that it the name of Jesus Christ ,Brother! You need help bro! Jesus is a the only physician.

  • @nomendegurre I believe you ,buddy. (Thousands wouldn't)

  • He did beat Ruby but this is such a powerful song. As a beaten woman who got rid of the man who beat up on me, I listen to this and it makes me cry but makes me strong. Cos you get sick and tired of walking into doors.

  • @TheMimifur I don't think Archie Roach was an abuser. I think he was speaking to all the aboriginal men in the country - and non aboriginal men for that matter! He's a good man! I was so sad to hear that Ruby died - what a large hole she must've left in his life - in all our lives for that matter!

  • Does anyone else realize this is about Mother Earth?

  • WE LOVE YOU ARCHIE ......

  • I'm not an indigenous woman, but I was an abused wife. I've always loved this song, but this is the first time I've seen Archie sing it. I have tears rolling down my cheeks. It's a beautiful and very moving song, and only Archie could make it so beautiful. Thank you Archie!

  • @nannyomi45 You're Beautiful in my eyes and of course ,Jesus' eyes ,also!

  • @walenski2404 (this is me-I've had to resign?) Thank you. I can still remember the walk across the Harbour Bridge and these huge speakers were playing Archie Roach singing as we walked outside the railway station at North Sydney. It was awesome. I have several of his CD's and have always loved his music. He's a great role model to his people - to all of us in fact!

  • Deadly unk ! We learnen again aye :) this time we go all the way ! Love ya unky !!!

  • Oh my goodness...awesome performance and just beautifully heartfelt. What a talent..

  • Well done Arch.... (From so long ago)....

  • Makes me cry every time I play this Arch. Mike Hartley. (can't she go live somewhere without any doors. Maybe an igloo ffs)

  • Makes me cry every time I play this Arch. Mike Hartley. (can't she go live in a tent ffs)

  • Makes me cry every time I play this Arch. Leeeeeeegend . Mike Hartley.

  • The Power of Music created by our REAL FATHER. Thanks Archie.

  • Just heard Archie had a stroke today....get well soon mate.

  • woah, we are still freakin fighting after all this time. But instead of attacking the traditional peoples of this nation( which seems to be the case everytime they do something honorable,)how about being quiet and listening to the message that Archie Roach is sending . ALL people can take something from it. I am sure he didnt sit there and colour class his lyrics, he just wrote from the heart...

  • I'm not Aboriginal, nor am I indiginous. But I remember the first time I heard this song. It was so emotional, that even I broke down crying.

  • listen closely to the words & the story Archie brings to you in song.

  • i love archie roach and i want to hear what he has to say and this video is so soft that i cant hear anything he is singing. Others may not persevre in listening if they cant hear so please if you can record at a louder sound so that others can appreciate this amazing artist.

  • Archie Roach is the eptitomy of soul music, He sings not only about the trials and tribulations of Australian indigenous people but also speaks openly about the culture that european infuluence has had on them and the way that influence has affected not only the nuculus of the family but the culture and the way people see them as a whole. Australian aboriginals are a beautiful people, but have been labled as demigrated by OUR own influence. I love this guys music. Thanks for reading this. Hammer

  • Fabulous as ever - he is an amazing artist. His music and voice grip the heart. Thank you for the clip.

  • This is one powerful song, reminds me of my parents.

  • that was beautiful uncle... R.I.P aunty Ruby xox

  • Thanks for the beautiful music.

    RIP Ruby.

    Stay strong Archie.

    xoxoxo

  • Your inability to why is why! I have my beliefs as an Aboriginal person, you dont except my opinion so U continue to confront me with your beliefs saying you r right with your beliefs but I am not,but stil U pursue me in effort to make me conform to a non Aboriginal way of thinking is this not racist? well it is 2 Aborigines whom have had there hole world taken made to think not of there own way but the white way, U r just another white guy telling an Abrgnl to think white this is as we see it,

  • last comment by pakanaman is reply 2 nativeaus hence understanding

  • Are u full blood,is anyone?A very racist thing 2 say our people had the breed out policy,by whites,if you own a house and die it goes to your child wheather that childs other parent is chinese or russian, it is inheritance,Archie is not what you call full blood but still gets the same racism as any Aboriginal, and was still brought up in an Aboriginal way the new way an evolved culture from the old. Why do I bother Like I say white fellas wil never understand Black fellas, they r just to one eyed

  • "and was still brought up in an Aboriginal way the new way an evolved culture from the old" He wasn't raised in an Aboriginal way, he was removed from his family. You say you know Archie?

  • Archie was removed as part of stolen gen this unfortunately was the Aboriginal way, we are survivors that are strong our genes are what makes us Aboriginal, the time that Archie spent away from fellow Aborigine's was only a small slice of the cake over the whole picture.

  • @pakanaman Indeed!

  • @pakanaman When I say my ancestors were Irish, nobody asks me if I'm a 'half' or a 'quarter' or any other loathsome inquiry as to my authenticity. It's disgusting that people still do this. Aboriginal people come in all shapes, sizes, colours? like the rest of us. As long as people say they are and are recognised by their peers etc as such, why the questions? It's offensive! There are fair skinned aboriginals with green eyes, who were removed from their families - they're still aboriginal!

  • The comment was not in anyway meant to be offensive to non Aboriginal people, I no Archie I we Aboriginals have struggled through hard times living in a country were we are dictated to be people who killed our people and our culture,we live under the union jack in our country we live by rules made by others whom still dont consider our ways,no law has ever had our consideration or input, Archie is an Aboriginal man signing about our issues. c u do not understand, but u r happy 2 hear whatever!

  • "Archie is an Aboriginal man signing about our issues. c u do not understand, but u r happy 2 hear whatever!" Have you considered that Archie's music has help some non-Aboriginal people learn more about Aboriginal issues? Sometimes I'm " happy 2 hear" and sometimes I'm profoundly touched.

  • Its nice to hear these comments, It is amazing the attacks I have had on me as an Aboriginal man for making My first comment which simply was just a comment on how close I feel to the music. If a Irish man said only an Irishmen can understand "Irish eyes are smiling"would he be attacked the same?Arch has lived a similar life 2 me so the words touch me I can relate as a ABRGNL.I feel beaten down 4 commenting, as an Aborigine I cant even comment now, what else do people want to take from us

  • I fail to see where you have been attacked.

"If a Irish man said only an Irishmen can understand "Irish eyes are smiling"would he be attacked the same?"

...Maybe if Archie wasn't singing in English and using "white man's" instruments you might have a valid point. You have no idea of anybody here's origin, life experience or capacity for empathy so your original comment could be described as ignorant. Nobody is stopping you from commenting, it's a level playing field - don't play the victim.

  • White man instruments" our culture is allowed to evolve just as all others do,australians get things from US, US gets things from Japan you are very narrow minded, I have met Archie several times so I no Archie sings of &writes of Aboriginal life. The more u comment shows more and more how my first comment rings true!, and the fact that I said only Aborigines can understand Archies music gets proven more as you comment on & on.Victim=dont ever tell me how to feel. afta what our people ben through

  • "White man instruments" our culture is allowed to evolve just as all others do" I didn't say that Aboriginal culture shouldn't be allowed to evolve - and my point about "white instruments" and "English lyrics" is that it HAS evolved and therefore Archie's stories are relevant and accessable to a wider audience . If he was using traditional instruments and singing in Aboriginal dialect then perhaps you would have apoint about needing to be Aboriginal to understand his music.

  • The more I get commented on the more I see that I was right with my original comment. Thanks

  • "Victim=dont ever tell me how to feel. afta what our people ben through"

You can feel what you like - I'm asking you to stop playing the victim because nobody here has attacked you and I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are. Archie Roach's music might mean something more personal to you if you are Aboriginal but to suggest that non-aboriginals can't understand or be inspired by him is not for you to say.

  • U say I cant say,and have an opinion"as an Aboriginal, after saying I am entitled to an opinion. Anyways after clicking on noteatpig2getha going on to YOUR homepage I C a page full of racist comments I no u will say ow but it isnt me it was others(Famous words dont play the victim)After seeing your homepage I see that you are out to inspire RACISM, in an undercover fashion,no doubt this is why u pursue me with such passion, Yes u have been exposed Steve so No more contact I wont address u anymore

  • " After seeing your homepage I see that you are out to inspire RACISM, in an undercover fashion,no doubt this is why u pursue me with such passion, Yes u have been exposed Steve so No more contact I wont address u anymore" oh lol - like the Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu videos? Or the under 12s football?...Or my video of the kangaroo joey? Anybody else here can visit my homepage and clearly see that you are lying.

  • "I C a page full of racist comments I "

    Point out just one.

  • I see three racist comments directed at him, but none from him. It's interesting that you would say that he is "out to inspire racism". Considering that he hasn't made any racist statements what does someone do to inspire racism?

  • I do have to thank you for sending me to noteatpig2gethas page ,I had no idea of who Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu was until now. Sorry Archie, I have a new favourite Aboriginal singer/songwriter now.

  • I am happy 4 u Steve ;)

  • @pakanaman I understand what you're saying. I'm always amazed by how many non-aboriginal people take exception to aboriginal people taking ownership of their culture etc - as though we haven't done enough over the years to remove it - even now, aboriginal kids in the NT are denied the right to speak their language in the first 4? hours of their school day - even though experts believe, that it's best for them to learn to read in their native tongue first - then in English? Still happening??

  • "I fail to see where you have been attacked."

He hasn't and I doubt that he's realised that the "whiteys" who are interested in Archie Roach probably aren't racist ;)

  • You are so of the mark and trying to spark something that just isnt there.....Sorry poor attempt !!!

  • Not trying to spark anything, just noticing that your labelling somebody as a racist and I fail to see where that person has said anything remotely racist.

  • It's a false analogy. You are comparing a song with a singer. If you said only Irishmen can understand Van Morrison then your comments would most probably be attacked.

  • If the Irish were singing of Irish life and Irish culture I would agree that I could not understand the way the Irish could, as I have not lived as an Irishmen,

  • But if that Irishman was singing about something as universal as domestic violence and the responsibility to look after our women then you might just find some common ground

  • @pakanaman As a non-aboriginal person, I feel ashamed by the past and present racist/ingrained attitudes of so many, including governments - past and present! Both Archie and Ruby were removed from their families. Archie found out that his mother lived not far from him, but sadly, she'd died some years before. What a terrible indictment on the rest of us. I don't know why so many non-aboriginal people are so defensive? Ignorance perhaps? Denial? I try to learn all I can about the past!

  • Very nice. Thanks for favoriting this, Rusty.

  • how could we overlook such powerful men in our society as our aboriginal men.wake up australian women

  • @filmit1 Pardon? Wife beaters? Are you listening to the lyrics?

  • Thanks for restoring some balance, Arch.

  • Only a black fella understands archie's music

  • "Only a black fella understands archie's music"

...Yeah right - because no white people ever have to deal with heartache , loss, love, hope or joy.

  • No white people are the one's that give us our headache and loss,How can you compare your loss to ours (Aboriginals) as a people caught between 2 cultures trying to fit in to 9-5 white life and still be loyal to there people by being strong and not conforming. people that r still so ignorant that they celebrate aus day on the day the officially took ova our country by murdering us.Archie understands this & sings about this. These songs r about aboriginal life. But you can take from it what.

  • I wasn't making any comparison of loss between races...and many of Archie's songs have universal themes that could apply to any culture. This song deals with domestic violence - try telling a white woman that gets bashed by her husband that she can't relate to this song.

  • lithgowstorm = noteatpig2getha

  • rubbish beautifull singer beautiful song beautiful people

  • Ignorant

  • archie roach such a legend

  • i love archie

  • have seen Archie many times and met him once afyter a gig. a gentle man and a gentleman lovely sad song thanks for posting

  • Thank you - this is just beautiful.

  • Love you Archie my bro. And your beautiful little smoky-voiced Ruby. God Bless you both.

  • David and Helen both still ARE in My Friend The Chocolate Cake, they've never broken up, they just know how not to overexpose themselves. Clips can be seen in abundance on YouTube. This Archie clip is great and extremely rare.

  • An example of one of Australia's most gifted songwriter's. The 'Charcoal Lane' LP is my single favourite lp of all time. Cheers to Archie, Ruby and families.

  • He is the most beautiful inspiration to date, a National Hero to many Australians and above all, a true heart.

    Respect

  • look for the tracker 7!!!! ull love it i swear!!!

  • such beauty..such music...such poetry needs more exposure.has anyone heard my history? i heard its good but cant seem to find it on youtube...

  • I wish Archie and Ruby would come tour the U.S.

  • I'm pretty sure his voice is ruined and overstressed from all the years... he and his family are friends of ours through my parents and they are very special people, not just on public image. If you ever get to meet him you will understand what i mean, Its like he just chases any clouds away from with you and brings the sunlight with him. I didnt know he was any celebrity when I met him so no I wasnt influenced by it. I havent seen him in ages and hope my children get to meet him too.

  • Nice comment.

As far as his voice goes I think it's probably just maturing.

While he hasn't got a great range he sings with such passion.

  • "I'm pretty sure his voice is ruined and overstressed from all the years... "

He's still performing and recording and his voice is as strong as ever.

  • as an aboriginal man i can relate to the song i have seen so many aboriginal man beatig thier partner and not pretty thank u archie for this wonderful song

  • I notice for saying an Aboriginal specific Quote as you just have.. That you have not been attacked as I have for being Aboriginal and having an opinion... But you can see the reaction I have stirred over the page.. with all things being equal there should be many reactions saying not only Aboriginal men beat there women, But no we have support for this statement by 6 thumbs up at this time.but what you are saying here is very similar to me.I should ave put blacks down 2 to get a positive react

  • You've labelled me as an attacker and you've labelled me as a racist...and I still fail to see why. I don't really care about the judgement icons - they have nothing to do with our discussion. I'm sorry that it's such a bitter pill for you to swallow but many non-Aboriginals can both relate to and be inspired by Archie's music and words.

  • Three of my favourite people in music together! How I would have loved to have heard David Bridie sing a harmony on the chorus. Oh well, it's perfect anyway.

  • great artist

  • I LOVE this song and I love Archie (and Ruby too)awesome
