  • If you were fighting no gi, and you just rapped your arm around your calf, would that leave you too susceptible, or would that work? Thank you for the video by the way you guys are truly amazing. Looking for feedback from anybody Please. Thank you.

  • Can this be adapted for no-gi?

  • i still have to try this when i roll it looks too good.

  • Could your opponent triangle you while attempting this pass?

  • didt exspect that defo tryin it out

  • I hit this several times in class tonight. Worked really well. Thx!

  • Thats fantastic! Theres a guy in my school that has a super strong guard and now I think I have a better way out

  • This is awesome :P I just can't understand how someone comes up with this stuff!

  • This move is working out just dandy for me in judo newaza. One thing I would add is to make sure that you don't allow him to sit through while doing this move. The first time I tried it, I leaned back too much and he sat up and mounted me. If you are mindful of that, its a really awesome and quick guard pass.

  • @Submissions101

And what if when you turn sitting to put your knee inside the guy does the sit up sweep? You are holding his collar, yes, but would that hold him?

  • this sort of works with can opener if your playing no-gi, setting it up is risky though

  • couldnt your opponent throw his free leg over your shoulder and set up a triangle choke?

  • @cartoonsfut He'd have to move his hips to get the triangle locked in. And here's the kicker: you control his hips.

  • theres some-ting really funny about this video...

  • I dig this!!

  • Yawn! To counter that just lift your right foot up when he leans to the side and smash him in the face with it.

  • @TheConstruct your an idiot this is a bjj guard pass, this technique isn't being applied to strikes. but his base is off i wonder is their is a possible, flower, or pendulum sweep from here.

  • Yawn! To counter that just left your right foot up when he leans to the side and smash him in the face with it.

  • IT'S VERY EFFECTIVE! :D

    THANKS!

  • Keith Owens and Pedro Sauer are incredible instructors! And I think we all agree, no matter what are it is you do, Kung Fu, Aikido, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Japanese Jujutsu, Karate, Ninjutsu or Tai Chi, white belts are always the scariest people to work with! They've got a sample of the knowledge, not quite found their control with that sample yet as it takes time to. White belts, sampling martial arts and not afraid to use them.

  • thank you sir.

  • i have discoverd a similar pass by myself (i'm a beginer). i start the same way but i continue to turn around, resulting in him lying on the stomach with my knee on the back of his folded leg. than i can grab and twist his ankle for a quick submission.

  • I like this move, partly because I've always found guard passing to be difficult (particularly with the standard techniques that have been presented to me). It negates your opponents ability to move and it seems to create the space one needs to break guard, pass and get mount. Me likey. Faved.

  • Was having trouble getting this, kept messing something up... Rewatched the video, and then *CLICK*, One little thing makes the whole thing mess up.

  • once you've pushed his leg down would it be possible to step over into a knee bar?

  • @joemel2 I would say yes.

  • I was just amazed how good this worked for me in class today, ha I'm just a white belt two months in training, but wow! I absolutely love submissions 101, Keith and Ari never take down your videos!!!!

  • So simple. I can't wait to try this out on Monday!

  • Awesome! Amazing!

  • This is a good move for me, because I usually get stuck in big guy's closed guard because they are fighting my grips very well when I try to set up basic knee passes and it takes a lot of strength for me to lift them for standing passes.

  • this looks awesome! I am gonna go try this out in class tomorrow. thanks!

  • whoa cant wait to test this out on an unexpecting white/bluebelt :D

  • My instructor taught us this yesterday after he watched it. Its an awesome pass

  • this is something to watch when you are going to have a fight.

  • cool

  • would the counter to this be a regular scissor sweep? I'm seeing this as a possibility. I will try this guard break since I'm really short and basic guard breaks don't really work for me.

  • great escape

  • if he were to use his right arm and grab your collar to pull you in and kicked his left leg up over your shoulder to throw you off balance is there not a triangle there?

  • I'm wondering if the guy on the bottom can kick his leg over for a sweep into mount...I'll try it out and see what happens.

  • hahaha "I'll do it as a white belt." *jerk, jerk, jerk* lol

  • such a great technique!

  • Beautiful pass

  • I like the move alot but yes I do think that if possible I would like to see Keith explain how to stop the armbar from happening there. I mean Im sure the armbar is harder to get from there then it seems, but a great follow up video would be how to make sure it doesnt happen.

  • @kdiggity317 The armbar's impossible to get from there, provided your knee and arm are in tight. You're trapping his left leg, which would need to pass over the face to apply the armbar. Very nice guard pass. Thanks!

  • @jonhui Yes I see that as you do the pass you cant get the armbar but in the first grabbing of collar your not holding your arm and knee right yet.

  • @kdiggity317 Yea i agree there's a danger of an armbar there, but the window of opportunity is really small, as long as you get your knee in place quickly. You could also use your other hand to lock his hips, just in case.

  • Epic technique!

  • will this work if the person is a foot taller then ya ?

  • isnt that an easy armbar?

  • I'll need to see if you can counter by under-hooking his right leg though.

  • why is this not the first way they teach you to pass!? it defiantly seems like a more effective way of doing things

  • I`ll try it this week.

  • cant he like get u in armbar...looks like if he can jus...WHAM..ur in an armbar ffor trying that

  • @jmun28x i dont see it

  • @pelopota yeah check

  • this is top notch shit man

    real fuckin good

  • I have been experimenting with this no-gi and I have had alot of success with it. A little odd I admit but it can be done, and its more painful

  • @stinkypete14 You do it grabbing behind the neck?

  • @UmDiaEuFicoBom yes but on the opposite side of my arm, a little behind the ear.

  • =D

    this looks good....=DDDD

  • this is awesome! i'm trying this on tuesday (my next gi class)

I love the reaction of the people spectating, they all know that they've just seen something really cool!

  • thats so tight!

  • no gi transition?

  • I wonder if this would work in a no-gi situation if you grabbed the back of the opponents neck.

  • @dmorley100 unless you have super long arms, you won't be able to anchor on anything (like the back of his head). This is a gi technique for sure (and a beautiful on at that!)

  • @Submissions101 with wrist control? (I'll bring it into the lab.)

  • @Submissions101 This also looks like a good setup for some sort of ankle lock !

  • @Submissions101 what bout a wrist or tricep controll?

  • @Submissions101 In a no gi, would this work if you pushed from his ribs and controlled the other side of his body with your other arm?

  • @Submissions101 it kinda works if you grab their ear. Hurts tho.

  • I do have freakish long arms and this did work for me with no gi. Really nice, easy guard pass. Thanks guys

  • @Submissions101 Jean Marc was working with anchoring on the back of the neck in no gi with some success.

  • @Submissions101

what about someone such as myself, smaller stature and able to reach such leverage due to size?

  • @BBmfW As with anything in grappling, you must play to your body type and that of your partner. There will be times when some moves won't work. Using this against a very large opponent may not work but someone in your weight class will,

  • Comment removed

  • @Norbitta I'm not a sub101 guy, btw, so pls take my answer with a grain of salt. If someone is attempting to omoplata you, then use a counter to the omo instead. This guard (from my perspective) is effective if your opponent gets guard and you pull this technique quick.

  • @Submissions101

I just noticed that it doesn't work without the gi after trying it no gi and just now also acknowledging that that gi grip that MUST BE THERE for this to work

    thanks

  • @Submissions101 Could you get it if you grabbed the tricep without a gi though? Seems like you could.

  • @Submissions101 how about with a jacket or shirt?

  • @ghanifw Would probably work with a sturdy jacket or t-shirt, but how many guys you fight on the street are gonna have a guard? LOL, better in that situation to punch for distraction, they open up, and u go double under =)

  • @Submissions101

Thank you for posting great videos,

Can this be use for triangle chokes? if so on which side of the triangle should this applied?

    thanks.

  • @Submissions101 Good point, but I'm not sure about super long. I remember doing something in this direction by accident while practising (improvising, I'm really not a good wrestler).

My span is 2,04 metres and 3 centimetres more than my height (that's abnormal), but in that guard position I could fully reach around the other guy's head, and even intertwain my fingers, or grab my wrist with a little stretching. He was 1,92 tall.

Normally long arms should get a long way to behind the head?

  • @dmorley100 as long as your opponent isnt shirtless it would still work

  • @koolaid56789 no too much pressure the shirt would rip... You should give this a try with a gi you'll see the amount of pressure the gi takes from the anchor

  • @dmorley100 I`m trying to figure that out now. It really does look like there is a no-gi variation to this guard pass. But I can't figure what to hold on to. You might be able to trick your opponent and get that pass but other than that I don't see any other way.

  • @dmorley100 LOL i was wondering the same before i saw all the comments

  • @dmorley100 or by grabbing the collar bone possibly, worth playing around with

  • @dmorley100

It does if you stand and angle. Instead of the lapel you'd put the hand on the chest.

  • @heelhook79 yep

  • I just wanna say wow

  • Gold!!!

  • Professor Sauer is really a great guy and so so so so so smart!

He is a great guy and very patient with white belts and new students to the game!

  • this is money.
