Final Cut Pro X to After Effects Workflow

Hey Matt, fantastic video as usual.

When you used 'blade' to cut the piece of footage out that you wanted. You then edited it and imported back to FCP X. You then placed the new footage above the old. I was wondering, it should be OK to delete the clip under the modified clip shouldn't it. I suppose it would make the exported file size a little smaller also.

I'd love a response to this, thank you in advance.

I have a question, using FCP X now, Trial.. and when I export my clip to AE.. Im using it for skateboard and using the Time so i can "ramp" the sound.. and when Im "ramp" the sound it disepare.. (Im from sweden so sorry for the bad english).. I dont know why this happens..

hello Matt, I really like your videos on final cut x, I'm just now starting on this editing thing mostly for music videos. Do you have a video on lip syncing and color correction?

If you wanted couldn't you just locate the file in finder, drag that into after effects, and then look at your timecode in FCPX and use that data to get the exact in and out points in after effects? This would skip the whole create a new project and exporting it to save space.

Right Click on the clip, "Replace With After Effects Composition"

That's it.

I've been using FCP since version 4 and have just started my first project in PP. Got to say, it's a breeze. The AE integration's a revelation after years of XML exports and rendering.

How do you get your focus with your camera so good? I have trouble getting focus points with my T3i in video mode when I'm trying to create shots similar to those in this video. (I'm using the 18-55mm lens)

@SupremeApps you have to get lenses that can focus that closely or far away. the kit lens will not give you shots like those.

@SupremeApps Its all about the lens. You're not going to be able to get tight macro/ shallow DOF shots with the kit lens. I shot this on the 24-70mm L (not that you'll need a lens that high end). I've got a video on my channel going over DSLR lenses for video if you want to check it out.

@pwproductions1 AE isn't hard to use at all. I'm 13 and I have a very good understanding of the program. It just takes a small amount of effort to learn it, you just have to want to. FCP X is a joke, they stripped the program off lots the neccesary features. AE is, just as FCP 7, a professional tool. If they stripped it down of the pro features and made the intererface "less of an eye sore" like they did for FCP X, then people would be forced to switch to Nuke, as they switched to Premiere.

@skatible Why! I think that what they did with FCPX has made it more accessible and understandable to everyone and not just professionals.

By making a version of AE that is less of an eye sore and more understandable it would make a lot more people happy. There is no reason why these programs need to be difficult to use except to that percentage that can figure it out.

It doesn't have to be a survival of the fittest.

@SebberGaming That makes sense. When I say simplified i don't necessarily mean they take out parts of the program I am just saying they make it easier to understand and more accessible. I have FCE which I couldn't use because despite watching very good tutorials I had to figure out and remember where everything was and even then it was a pain to use. With iMovie I was able to open it up and figure it all out on my own. That's how programs should be.
