My family has a running line. It usually skips around the family tree, but can be traced up to my great uncle, Ray Andrews. He ran track at the University of Orgeon under the coaching of the running genius Bill Bowerman. Ray ran the 400 yard in 46s, and rightfully earned the nickname, Racing Ray. I hope I can live up to such a reputation in XC.
my story is I come from a cheerleader family which i did too then my freshmen year i was new at this private school, and i didnt know many people. but then i got asked to join track as a sprinter because one of the coach's saw me running in PE playing flag football. So i did the 100m and 200m. After track my freshmen year I decided to do cross country. Right now, i am doing morning practices at my school at 6am. I live in Vegas, so its gets up too 117 sometimes. Thats why we practice so early.
Last year in 8th Grade I started running. I first started when, I noticed had always been thin my whole life, but as I was developing I was starting to get out of shape or whatever. Well so the day after Christmas my mom went to the gym, and after all of the food I felt friggin fat, so I agreed to go with her. I ran a mile around the track, then after that I was new to running so I was pumped that I just ran a whole mile,so I was like holy shit i ran a mile. I needed 2 boxes to wright this ^
Yo cicirunner did you see the video response I made to this? I didnt know how to make it a response so i just posted it with the link in the description Btw. Also whats the song at the beggining?
@BruinsOfBoston I just came across this comment. The song is called Burn this City by Lil Wayne. It's really easy to make a video response. If you click into the box where you would normally make a comment, a blue option under the box shows up that says, "Create a video response." I tried looking on your channel but I didn't see it.
I come from a completely un-athletic family. I guess I always sort of liked the competition in running; even from 2nd or 3rd grade, I loved just being in front and whooping everyone's ass in the mile in gym. I know they sound like small accomplishments, but they were the world to me then. After running sub-7 min in the mile in 8th grade, I wanted to do some real running. My english teacher was the assistant coach of xc at the high school, so he helped me get on to the team. That was 9 months ago
I first ran when I was so anxious fed up with life that I decide to just run for as long and hard as I could and see what happened, after nothing else was working. I was suprised to find that when I was done, everything looked white, and I had no anxiety whatsoever. Running is kindof like a God to me...
My buddy got me to run XC when I was a freshman last year, and I had never ran over a mile, and that mile was on a track at like 8:00, and now i'm a sophomore and I run a 5:45 mile and it keeps me motivated on how much I've improved.
Running is probably one of the greatest sports out there I mean its the one sport that will always keep your body in full shape and lets you interact with the outdoors I mean sure other outdoor sports do the same but during a game of soccer you dont exactly stop around and look at the flowers or trees as you can do during leisure runs. Great sport and deserves more credit as Swimmers do am not just saying that cos I swim.
my gym teacher in 8th grade was the cross country coach, and in gym we had to do that mile run thing and i beat everyone and ran a little over 6 minutes with no training or anything.. so my gym teacher invited me to run at a cross country race to fill in for someone and see how i like it i ended up doing really well for my first time ever running more than a mile.. so i started running track in 8th grade and cross country as a freshman.. and now XC is my favorite sport. my best time is 19:21
I came from a fat family but i was fat until my 8th grade year , I decided I wanted to do Track , I started off running the 400 meters my time isn't that good i ranged from 1:05 - 1:10 depending on my mood , but i decided , but I decided I wanted to be a distance runner when I did the 1600 in pratice , I was pretty weak but I just loved the feeling , I'm currently 13 of age , Im going to be a freshmen next year and Imma do crosscountry and my goal is to win a medal.
Good luck achieving your goal. In my area, usually ribbons were handed out during cross country instead of medals although I did manage to snag a few in track.
DUDE I really know what your talking about I'm the same way.. I'm like dang I don't know what I would have been like... I come from a fat family and I"m a sub 5 min miler in highschool
oh but i did run before that not competitively though. i was fat and my sister made fun of me a lot so i started running and became a twig. then i stopped running and started skateboarding, which built up my legs, and started track after hating PE
when i was little, my grandma was always telling me i was fast n i was one of the fastest kids in my grade so i decided to try out for xc in middle school and was made captain in 8th grade, and i am currently a varsity runner in high school
i dont even know why i started running. i guess it was because i was always the fastest sprinter in my grade ever since i was little, so i joined xc in 6th grade because i thought it would be easy (though it wasnt). i wasnt very good at long distance then, but i didnt start getting good or motivated until 9th grade or so
well, im a first year runner this year at my xc team at my school. My name is Hector. I did 6 miles in 42 minutes first day i showed up. (i was jogging with one of my varsity friends althought i slowed down a bit so he got ahead.) i started running this year because i wanted to do something and it turned out i could really go for the long distances. But the points to that is that the last 3 months i didn't do anything i was being a slob and decided to change. it started by getting away from pop
yeah my coach said i might make varsity later on in the year but i wish i started to run earlier and about my workout is 6 days good? the 2 days hills and 4 just longs runs?
I think it comes down to what you coach demands. If he specifies a time you have to hit or designates a certain workout as a speed workout, usually you'll need to go hard for that; however, if he says, "Go for an 9 mile run," chances are he just wants the team to put in some mileage. In this case, I would say run hard, but run smart. Don't be stupid and run the last mile in 5:30. Run controlled and try to save your legs while still getting a good workout. You don't want to breakdown mid-season.
well we do like on and off days. for example one day we'll do sprints and the next day we'll do long run just to even things out. because monday we worked on out 800meters and today we did 8miles
Nice All American Medal! I qualified for the Jr Olympic Nationals when I was 14 but my parents didn't want to take me to them!!! That's one of the biggest regrets not trying to get my parents to take me. They were far though. Chicago to Rhoda Island
I ran my first mile in 3rd grade and I was first in my gym class. That got me set on running. Both of my sisters ran too. When Jr. High started I joined the cross country team and started to train a lot. I was lucky to join a good team. Being on a successful team helped to keep me running. One moment that I think of a lot is when I was 13 I was with my teammates and a couple 7th graders from another team came up to us just so they could talk to us. They looked up to us. It was a cool feeling.
Haha. I started running because my dad made me my freshman year. Apparently I went through a goth kinda phase and he wanted me to do more things than soccer. So he made me start track because I was really fast in soccer. I HATED it at first. I would rather be doing anything else but that. Halfway through the season I ran a 5 flat in the mile and I really wasn't trying. But my sophomore year was really when I fell in love with it. I got good at the 800m and I just had this appreciation for it.lol

As funny as it sounds, the beep test got me really into running.

I started running because at my old school, cross country was super popular, and at my new school, it was miniscule. But, I joined anyhow.
