And while i wouldnt consider this song necessarily original hip hop, he has lots of more classic feeling hip hop songs, plus hip hop itself as an artform must evolve at some point. Besides, his life story is pretty nuts anyway, so anything "emo" is legitimate anyway. And isn't expressing your "emo"tion essentially the root of any art form? I prefer his old stuff that was much more aggressive than this, though.

Meh, i know where you're coming from. And while i wouldnt consider this song necessarily original hip hop, he has lots of more classic feeling hip hop songs, plus hip hop itself as an artform must evolve at some point. Besides, his life story is pretty nuts anyway, so anything "emo" is legitimate anyway. And isn't expressing your "emo"tion essentially the root of any art form? I prefer his old stuff that was much more aggressive than this, though.

You know why you think this is shitty, because music on the FM radio is pushed on you with catchy hooks and repetitive phrases, thats most of what you know and believe to be good. This outside the box music needs time to settle in. It's like when I first tasted beer, hated the shit, but after awhile i was able to pick out the flavor and savor the taste. ITS AN ACQUIRED TASTE. But because somebody writes about something real, even if it involves cutting or any such material that fits in with the standard definition of the word "emo", doe not in fact make the music emo. The chasm is him maturing, and it was gradual. He said that he's got a daughter now; he shouldn't rightfully be making music about doing drugs and screwing women. He's not forcing anyone out, they're forcing themselves out by refusing to listen to something different just because it's a change and not what they normally listen to or like.
He's not purposely trying to alienate people, he's just experimenting as it suits his catharsis. It's not like he moved to bubble gum pop, after all.
