@nythreefer the reason for that is when people think the best, they just think offense. Not much about defense. So for those like Pavel who do both exceptionally well, wont get the recognition they deserve with people like Crosby or Ovechkin, who mainly just play the one side of the ice. Pretty fucked up.

I did the math a few months ago, and after combining points per game with plus/minus (calling it "effective points per game" because minuses cancel out points), Crosby was only scoring something like 0.2 PPG more than Datsyuk, which is only about 16 more per year. Combine that with Pavel's takeaways and the fact that he barely EVER takes a penalty and you have concrete evidence of Datsyuk being the best player in the NHL.
