The army of Spartacus did try to leave by paying off pirates to transport them and their families away from Roman lands. Unfortunately the pirates kept the treasure paid to them in advance and left Spartacus and Co to Rome's mercy.

Spartacus had always aimed to leave Italy - he just never got the chance and the Romans could not let him live after what he had achieved against them in battle otherwise it would have inflamed slaves throughout the entire Roman empire.

I have only just found out, i had no idea Andy had passed away! im genuinly shocked and gutted that such a fantastic actor who was in his prime and im sure would have gone on to do great things, was struck down so early in his career.

Im happy Starz didnt just give up on andy and started filming the next season when he got sick. They waited and made a prequel and gave him time to recover. It just wasnt meant to be. RIP

@killu9296 Because the slave army didn't want to merely defeat the romans, they wanted to BE romans. The slaves knew first hand how well Romans lived by comparison to other, less advanced tribes and civilizations. Also, there was nowhere they could escape that the Romans could not follow; so with tempting treasure on the one hand, and the threat of pursuit on the other, why not be bold and go for it when you assume you will likely die anyway?
