Jimmy Herring could harmonically invert everything Trey plays and feed it back to him in minor third arpeggios. Come on, Trey plays with an auto-wah setting on his normal electric guitar tone - weak. Jimmy is stock? Check out Jimmy with Phil Lesh on 12-19-2004 on archive, esp. on Help>Slipknot; Eyes; St. Stephen; Franklins Tower; Elevator. Trey couldn't touch Jimmy in his dreams, even with the help of his oversized ego.

Maybe I sounded a bit harsh with regards to Widespread Panic and Herring. Sure, they're fine musicians, and I'd love to see them in concert, but in my humble opinion, Trey's compositions during the Phish years were phenomenal. Both in complexity and musicianship. Fascinating, dreamlike compositions that show off every member's talent.
