me pregunto quien sera lo suficientemente ignorante como para traducir el nombre de esta gran cacion a "sueños de un bailarin"? hay que ser muy ignorante del ingles y de la traduccion o ser muy idiota!
What's great about this song are the background singers! The song just builds and builds until the background singers become the lead for a while. Beautiful! Jack
Good version, though I still prefer Meat Loaf's. Steinman's voice just isn't powerful enough to give it the proper edge. He is a great songwriter though...he and Meat (Mr. Loaf??) made a great team. Much like Elton John and Bernie Taupin...Bernie isn't a singer and if you've ever heard Elton's stuff w/o Bernie, you appreciate what a great songwriter he is.
I much prefer the arrangement on Jim's 1981 version to the one Meat Loaf did in 1993, but I prefer MLA's singing (obviously). Actually, the same goes for all of the songs on "Bad for Good", which is, vocals aside (and I actually like Jim Steinman's voice), better than anything Meat Loaf has done since, including Bat out of Hell II.
so why doesn't the woman get some drumsticks or dance with a moog? C'mon!
Actually, I loved this version of the song way back when I first heard it in 1981. Jim's version is the best but he wrote it so not surprising. Didn't he write a great deal of stuff for Meatloaf?
This is taked from a tv show here in Costa Rica, the old guy who directed the show always always and for no reason change the songs names. For years in their spanish translation this song were kown as "Sueños de un Bailarín" (Dreams of a Dancer).
Meatloafs voice has never returned since he lost it in 1980. He's maintained a career though through accountants & yes men record company cretins whispering plaudits into his ear. This is the original & a million times better than Marvins cover.
Years ago, in the 80's I bught an LP from a used record store with Jim stienmen filling in for meat loaf when he lost his singing voice and had to go to a voice guru. The ablum was supposed to come with a 45 record as a bonus song, but it was missing., recently that I was able to find a CD with this song included, I was disapointed with the orginal version of rock roll dreams, but I do think that the vesions of bad for good and and out of the frying pan are better than the remakes.
Interesting story you wrote regarding Jim Steinman. I remember waiting in line at Cedar Point in the mid 90's while the Meatloaf version was playing over the speakers. A bunch of kids in their teens go "wow, a cool NEW song" I said "wow, a cool OLD song from the early 1980's!" I've always liked Steinman's version much better. The sad thing is that it was a 45 included with Steinman's album, and was NOT on the original re-released CD (they added it later - thank goodness).
I love Jim Steinman and I adore this song -- but the fact is, he's not singing on this track. He tapped frequent collaborator and back-up singer Rory Dodd to do this one justice. (Dodd actually sang three songs on the album, was credited for two.) Steinman's just lip-syncing.
Okay, for those don't know. After Bat Out of Hell the Record Label wanted a follow up so Steinman wrote the next album under the title of Renegade Angel. When Meatloaf lost his voice to exhaustion and a mental block Steinman recorded Renegade Angel under the new name Bad For Good. Shortly after Meatloaf recorded the album Dead Ringer. Flash foward to Bat II, Steinman and Meat decided to use re-record some of the songs from Bad for Good for Bat II.

shame on Jim Steinman for stealing meatloafs songs! he was meant to sing this and only him. He may have wrote the song but meat is the only voice!!!!!!!!!!

Jim is a fantastic writer but Meatloaf is THE only one who can live his music

This song is considered the no. 1 song of all times in an oldies and most famous broadcasting station (in its genre) in Costa Rica: Super Radio.

Why the hell is Steinman pretending to sing this?! Great song, but this video is a bit silleh.

Jim's a pure genius at writing music and lyrics, but he should stick to letting Meatloaf doing the performing.

How come Rory Dodd's not lip-syncing this?

Where's the choral reprise at the end of the song? That's the BEST part. It was on the 45RPM. It's also on the CD of this album.

To Date Meatloaf has re-recorded most of the songs from Renegade Angel aka Bad For Good.
Bad for Good - Bat III
The Storm (excerpt) - Bat III
Out of the Frying Pan... - Bat II
Rock and Roll Dreams... - Bat II
Lost Boys and Golden Girls - Bat II
Love and Death... - Bat II (retitled Wasted Youth)
Left In the Dark - Welcome to The Neighborhood
Surf's Up - Bad Attitude
The only songs not re-recorded by Mealoaf to date are Stark Raving Love and Dance In My Pants
fabfeet1969 3 years ago 2
One, NO ONE calls it "Renegade Angel".
Two, Meatloaf has destroyed every track he's done from 'Bad For Good'.
PDValentine 3 years ago
agreed, Bad For Good was a great album, and Meat Loaf ruins those songs. Stick to Bat out of Hell (original only). And maybe Dead Ringer.
itunes65 3 years ago
i wouldnt say he destroyed every track i would say its a different version. you either like it or dont and you obviously dont like it.

He didn't steal the song, he released this well before Meat sang it back in the 80's as a bonus track on his "Bad For Good" album :-)
