i love the cure since 1989, i don't even think about seeing them live anymore because of the shity garage grungy drums sound of Jason, how can you be one of the best men for music Robert and even don't realize you sound is so weak since Jason joined the band !
Why the Fuck is Simon doing a PETER HOOK? As for Jason Cooper,if he really was so shit Im sure Smithy wouldve got shot of him ages ago! Cant see Budgie joining ?
I had a feeling a couple years Lol would show back up in the Cure. Not necessarily cuz of Lol but this is the best I've heard them sound in YEARS. It made me cry.
@phantomlord91 actually from pictures i've seen on a cure forum I post on, someone at the show got a chance to meet the band and got pictures with them. Bob looks like he lost a few in them. This may have been shot at a bad angle. some of the other videos from this show he looks slimmer.
"BORIS WILLIAMS WAS IN THE BAND FOR 9 YEARS AND LOL TOLHURST FOR 11 YEARS (5 YEARS AS DRUMMER)... BUT JASON COOPER HAS BEEN DRUMMING WITH THE CURE FOR 17 YEARS, FROM 1994 TO THE PRESENT DAY... JASON COOPER IS THE CURE'S DRUMMER - AND IT SICKENS ME THAT HE DOESNT GET A NAME CHECK... BAH! RSX "
nice to c , friends keep the the swing and talents, thats what i call now , not ....... now this now that 2054 , x fact trip cowell ur a money grap my pants u tart grow up u have no talant u lost make up for it sap.. simon borin , not gallup , x factor shite full stop..
...it is just so good to see Lol and Roger there...I wish the cameraman would have stopped focusing on Simon and showed more Roger, Lol, and Robert....all Simon does is look like he is taking a squat in the woods....and Jason is a perfect drummer.....can't wait for the DVD....Robert does need more eye make-up ala 2005 - Taking off video......and puffier hair.....but they are amazing...
This truly made my day, nay, my week, to see Roger and Lol back into the band. And their sound is truly magnificent. I am somewhat new to The Cure starting from their 2004 session, and it brightens my day to see Robert rekindling their old sound :)
Also all of the cure started using different effects in the past decade which was an undesirable addition to their sound as well. Robert's guitar has some HORRIBLE tone in a lot of newer live recordings...especially his VI in the Trilogy.
The thing that's wrong with Jason's drums is that he has a WAY different natural swing (or lack of) to his drumming than Borris did. It seems rushed and stiff - he just has a weird style that makes the songs sound different. He is not a bad drummer...and they CHOSE to use his style for the newer records, like it or not. But he also brings a more, um.... modern sound to the old songs, which is bad IMO. It makes them sound like a karaoke disc or something.
@TheNewsroomStudio I think he plays behind the beat (procrastinator) whereas Boris was a tad ahead or in the pocket. Also I don't believe that the sound of Jason's acoustic drums sound 'modern'... they just sound bad!
omg LOL! I almost shed a tear. Robert looks good too, seems as if he lost some weight. He was looking REALLY unhealthy there for a while which made them a bit hard to watch live.
Respond to this video... Robert, if you read this, you should give Budgie a ring to drum for you guys. I mean you played with Budgie before when you were with the Banshees. You know he's the only one on par with Boris. Jason has had his "moment". Time for a new/awesome drummer: Budgie. It's only logical... After all, The Cure and The Banshees are sister bands. Let bygones be bygones and give us a "classic" Cure again. Lol, been a long time, missed ya man.
@MrAlphabet83 I don't really know what you mean by "too invasive" but, I think Budgie is the only drummer who would complement The Cure better than Boris. As for Jason, he's had his moment. He brought what he brought to The Cure and that is that. Time to move on. Budgie also has the experience in playing music that is very similar in style to The Cure. Budgie is an awesome drummer who can adapt to any playing style and The Cure's is probably a style he is very familiar with.
@MrAlphabet83 The only thing that could come of Budgie joining The Cure would be a return to the "classic" Cure we all miss and long for. In other words, nothing but positive effect. I think Budgie as well as the members of The Cure, would benefit highly in a merger of the two. Let's face the facts, The Cure as it stands now has caused some backlash with many fans, and Jason is seen as a big part of that, even if it is a bit unfair. I think people are ready for a dynamic, re-vamped The Cure.....
Yes, Jason Cooper (the drummer) is like 15 years with the band BUT truth be told, he never really did anything interesting and memorable for the band. Unlike Lawrence or Boris (or even Andy which only recorded one album. Or Steve Goulding who only recorded one song with the band!).
Jason is not bad but his style will probably fit other type of band.
@gnzvideos Lawrence did NOTHING good as a drummer. He was very limited. Have you read Simon and Robert slagging him off for making the band sound weak live? Robert ended up drumming on a lot of Pornography cos Lol couldn't hit the drums hard enough? You really are a fucking idiot.
@towerblockrock Dear idiot: Yes I know what Bob and Simon said before, during and after the law suit.
So, Lawrence did nothing uh? just listen to the drum pattern of All Cats are grey and compare to anything that Jason has produced so far. Lol did way better. Also compare his sound, speed and performance during the Faith and even Pornography tours. Way better than your idol Jason :)
@gnzvideos The piss-weak Pornography tour bootlegs or the crappy version of The Drowning Man live in 1981? Jason seems to copy the ACAG drum pattern whilst adding no more personal flourishes than any other member of the band does with their parts. In these latest shows Jason is obviously matching the BPM of the records. You display a shocking lack of knowledge. Fact is that after Pornography there's NOTHING in The Cures set Tolhurst could manage as a drummer or a musician.
why are people still talking shit about Cure drummers? if you don't like the drummer in a band so much then just find another band that you do like & move on with your life. stop being a cunt.
For the life of me I cannot fathom why so many people hate Jason so much. Yes Boris was the best drummer The Cure will ever have and yes it is a shame he left but that's all water under the bridge now, people. Get over it!
Love the videos from Sydeney. Could you tell us what you used fujifezz? It's so beautiful and clear. As far as the drummer, I don't know this Jason dude 'cause I'm an old timer (meaning anything from Hot Hot Hot back is my favorite Cure music). He doesn't sound bad but I would prefer to see Lol or Boris play if I were to spend the big bucks. Nevertheless, this is an awesome idea and I hope they tour the world with this lineup one last time!! Txs 4 posting.
WOW!! This gave me chills. It's awesome to see Lol and Roger included here. The Cure is Lols band as well as it is Roberts. He was there from the get go. You lucky Aussies, you! thank you for posting this beauty :D

Some people say Jason played better than ever in this concert haha.. that is because he was just copying what Lol did in studio (or the drum machine). Because we all know that Jason always bashes cymbals and his sound is terrible live and in the studio. Listen Bloodflowers, The Cure, 4:13Dream...
BORIS WILLIAMS is and will always be the BEST drummer The Cure ever had.
@amigajenni I never liked Jason. His rhythms aren't very impressive and his playing seems stiff. I saw them a couple of years ago and the lazy bastard didn't even play the drumlines to their older material correctly. He was leaving out chunks of beats that were the backbone of those songs. Some might say he was playing them "his way" or something stupid. Bullshit. It was garbage. I was appalled.
@amigajenni I'm one of the people who say this is the best I've heard him play yet. I give him credit for at least playing the material correctly this time. And you are spot on about Boris. Damn, his lines were so fresh. Exploding Boy is a fine example of his bad-ass-ness.
I do know the story.... DO YOU? he is the cofunder of the band and worked in the very best albums. He quitted those "nasty" habits many years ago....and he deserved to be there at least for 1 night.
@davidsanchezvasquez It would be great if you posted a link to back that up, i went to the curefans. com and I can't find anything of the such. Thanks.
@davidsanchezvasquez I did not say that Porl was coming back for Bestival. I said I would bring a book for him IF he's there. Please don't blow this up and take my words out of context. I told Jason I would bring one for him and one for Porl. I'm HOPING he will be there to get it. There is NO official word whatsoever about the Bestival lineup, especially not from me!! Thanks.
Either your'e deaf or a very poor musician, Boris is the fucking man, dude has got feel like no other Cure drummer before or after, not opinion, it is straight up fact. final.
@LordBones138 ...I'd evidently need a TARDIS because he doesn't play any more...those clackety skeleton hands can't hold the sticks any more....he was a very dated drummer, listen to his sounds, he was stuck in the last 5 yrs of the 80's...Jason has already played 16 years and played in 3 decades....amazing drummer that Jason Cooper is....
@Danno.. I know Boris wasnt the studio drummer on Charlotte Sometimes, was basing my opinion off the many audio/video bootlegs i have, (many soundboard**) where Boris absolutely owns the drumming on that particular song.
Jason did step up his playing though, so kudos to him.
Robert, Simon, Lol : They ARE The Cure! it's the best line-up ever! Such a great emotion to see all of them on this incredibly wonderful song !! Thanks VERY much for posting it.
Must add great to see Robert playing Fender again ... its more part of the "cure" sound than his signature schecter guitar could ever be.. I hope these guys find the time to play Los Angeles again soon with Lol and Roger.. would fn rule
So good to see Lol on stage with Robert and Simon again..and also good to see Simon playing a fender p bass again (so much better tone than gross gibson he plays as of last few years)
As for Jason.. the groove and feel of Charlotte sometimes doesnt even compare to Boris' playing. TRUTH.
@LordBones138 Boris was never on Charlotte somtimes. Infact, it was Lol who was, albiet probably with overdubbed faked tracks casue he was kind of bad.
I hate Jason, but I must say, after being there last night for the first show, he has seriously stepped up his game. His symbols weren't messy, his snares were thick. He was actually really good this time.
@tmbermond you must definitely be deaf! why don't you go and listen to your old bootlegs and hear Lol, Andy or Boris playing this song. All of them beat Jason anytime! Their sound is better, the tempo and feeling is better.
i love the cure since 1989, i don't even think about seeing them live anymore because of the shity garage grungy drums sound of Jason, how can you be one of the best men for music Robert and even don't realize you sound is so weak since Jason joined the band !

TRUTH.
LordBones138 8 months ago
@LordBones138 Boris was never on Charlotte somtimes. Infact, it was Lol who was, albiet probably with overdubbed faked tracks casue he was kind of bad.
I hate Jason, but I must say, after being there last night for the first show, he has seriously stepped up his game. His symbols weren't messy, his snares were thick. He was actually really good this time.

This has been flagged as spam show
I´ll wait the DVD then, meantime I keep thinking after see all their stuff that Cooper´s style is bad and weak.
Again, awesome to see together Simon, Lol and Robert

Hey, where's that dummy that says Jason isn't a good drummer? Jason sounds awesome to me.
tmbermond 8 months ago 2
@tmbermond you must definitely be deaf! why don't you go and listen to your old bootlegs and hear Lol, Andy or Boris playing this song. All of them beat Jason anytime! Their sound is better, the tempo and feeling is better.
The drum fill in 2:03 sounds really bad!
