Several reasons that baby monkeys become orphans. If food or water is scarce, the whole troop will run off leaving the babies to become prey, or die of dehydration. Poachers will bait a trap, let the alpha come in, eat and leave. Then, when the troop come in, they spring the trap. The mama's will have the infants pulled, and if they fight, they just get shot. The juveniles have their teeth cut or pulled right there. The males get castrated with thin cable wire, because it stops the bleeding.

@FroggyHope it is an evolutionary thing. they are "cute" so that other mammals will feel a parental protective instinct toward them, and in turn, we have evolved to feel protective of smaller creatures with certain proportions and other features (large eyes, high pitched cry, etc.) because we link that with offspring and general helplessness. whatever the case may be, i love baby animals. :)

@CattyCatRanch It was probably separated from it's mum to ensure its survival. Had it remained with the mother, there would no doubt have a risk of it dying. By being removed from it's mother & placed in complete care by specialists, everything was under control in order to enable a perfectly healthy upbringing.

Special measures like these are often made when endangered species are involved, for understandable reasons. It's cruel, but it's the right thing to do if we want them to re-populate.
