just yesterday i designed a new black powder rocket, and it accellerated a little bit slower, but for 4.5 seconds instead of 1-2 like yours, which results in a much higher total height, look at my vids, and it's my most recent. i plan to put headers on them next week. good rockets though.

Easiest way is to ram a couple of layers of delay powder (50:50 mix of charcoal and KNO3 ground up in a mortar and pestle) then fire in some lose flash powder or lift powder (FP is MUCH better). After this just glue a bit of thick paper/card to the end of the tube, and your set.

well u should put some clay over the FP because it will most likely blow the card board right off, but make sure not to ram the clay because it may ignite the FP from friction. Instead put some body weight on the dowel to make a plug, then if u can put a cap on the end.

That would compress the FP, which works best when the chamber is only about 60% full as the reaction only heats the air around it, and doesn't produce gases like other explosives.

Also, clay just isn't needed - cardboard is grand for a loud report if your FP is strong enough... and also you wont get a supersonic lump of clay in a spectator's face :).

Yeah i guess, last time i used my caps for my tubes(i hot glued them in) it just blew the cap right off and we didnt get a bang :( ...but im going to try ur way next time :) ty
