I think the dispute is about how "metalcore" is used today. They originally meant the same thing, but now metallic hardcore is used for bands like this while metalcore is a gay pop-metal phenomenon. It's similar to how emo used to be the name of a hardcore subgenre, but the label jumped ship and is now used for gay powerpop bands, while the style once referred to as emocore is now called melodic hardcore. For whatever reason people can't leave core genre's alone so we keep having to rename shit.
