Yeah, I did. Otherwise it would have only been a few secons long lol. It took three days to render just 10 secs of footage. If I wanted a slower 2 min long version of the tracking shot, it would have taken WEEKS to render.
FINALLY!!! SOMEONE HAS ACTUALLY USED VUE PROPERLY!!!!!! Fantastic intro, I'm trying to do a shortish feature film with this software, and this is pretty much how I had visioned it. I plan to start at the bottom of teh scene and go through the clouds and into Space. I love the possibilities of this software
@Windurin Yeah no problem mate, looks fantastic. Well I've tested some scenes out in my Trailer for my film I'm going to make so you can check it out on my channel. It's called Flame Extinction Theatrical Trailer. It's all a bit basic but it was just quickly for a trailer, and I'll be working to every detail on the final shots for the actual film, but check it out and leave a comment :D
Thanks. I'm still using Vue 6 at the moment, I only have the Personal Learning Edition of Vue 8. Vue 8 has some great new features, but you still need a lot of processing power to render high-quality scenes.
Vue isn't exactly simple to use, but it's one of the easier 3D packages out there compared to others.
You may not have had the processing power, but you certainly had the talent. This looked great, with some more work you'd have been able to fully realize what you wanted, I think.
Thanks for the comment. I am still doing tests with the Personal Learning Edition of Vue 8 (the latest version). When I can afford to buy it, I will make a new video similar in concept with higher rendering specs.
Hi. The shots were rendered separately and edited together. It was possible to do a complete fly-through, but I wasn't happy with the results so I decided to do 2 separate shots.
Hey can I ask how long something like this takes to render, and can you give me some advice for lowering render times but still keeping good quality. Great concept btw!
This took about 70+ hours (3 days!) to render fully on my old computer: 2MB RAM, single core 2.66GHz. On a dual core it would still have taken around 40-50 hours and on my current 4GM RAM, quad core PC, I would say still 20+ hours...
A long time, but consider that photorealistic Hollywood effects take as many hours on supercomputer renderfarms...
To reduce render times, forget about fancy effects like motion blur and keep the anti-aliasing to a minimum without sacrifcing the quality.
The clouds were made with the Atmosphere Editor. It's a combination of 4 different types of clouds and tweaking the parameters until you get what you need. Just experiement. Later versions of Vue also have 'MetaClouds' which are fully customisable and can produce very realistic results when done right.
Nice! I know how it is to get over your head with these things. I was working on a project that should have been a team of cgi animators. In the end, you can only do so much by yourself.
It's not really a modelling program, it's more for natural environments. But you can import 3D models in various format, then you just double click on its Material option and choose froma variety of textures. However, if you want to get into technicalities like bump mapping and normal mapping, it gets a lot harder. I'd recommend 3DS Max or Maya instead.
I've added a link to the official site in the video description box. You can get a Personal Learning Edition from there. It's the full software, but your projects will have a watermark on them, so it's not for commercial use. If you want the full legit version, I highly recommend you buy it. If you're a digital Jack Sparrow, I can't help you... : )
I've been trying to do a CG Shot similar to this for my studio...I use xStream and I'm totally clueless, haha. Can you refer me to a tutorial or give me a few tips? I would appreciate it!
And this is a very impressive video! Inspiringly beautiful.
no probs, hey maybe you didn't know how to do that, but if you know how to save or watch the final rendering of any thing, can you tell me? or any one else who knows i need it fast
Hey, personally speakin, i thought the vid was good. it gave the general look and feel + mood of the intro. I can understand this was just the prototype and was meant to be a rough visualization. Keep it up, and even if u've given up I hope ur trying some other ones cuz i'd love to see what else u can come up with!
hey dajavu2me, to make the clouds, go to the little icon on the left of the screen, and clock on the 7th icon going down, and it loks like a cloud. to pick the type of cloud, right click on it and then you have it.
I have a Intel Quad Core running at 3ghz. Its going to take a long time to render that even on a quad core. About 20 to 40hrs. I tried rendering something less complex and it took about 25hrs.
I think it's worth every penny, as long as you use it enough. Have you tried the 'Personal Learning Edition', just to see what kind of scenes you can handle, before you go out and buy it? Just a thought.
It's basically the Eduacational version lol. It's the full software for FREE, however, any work you save will have a watermark over it so it's not really presentable although watchable of course, but it's a great way to play around with the software in full without paying for it.
You can donwload in on e-On Software's official site.
My current PC I rendered this on isn't actually very impressive at all.
- AMD Athlon Processor
- 2.08GHz, 2GB RAM
It's good to have as much RAM as possible for not only rendering, but simply being able to process and handle the scene with that many polyogns. My PC is slowly dying on me and running a lot slower these days, so when I now open the same project, it crashed 9 times out of 10.
Oh, and just another note: I am referring to the city scene in the last comments, because the clouds and the city are actually 2 completely separate scenes, edited together with a simple dissolve cut.
The city has hundreds of millions of polygons while the cloud scene is very easy to handle and is simply excessive tinkering with the atmosphere editor.
Wow. Extremely nice. You might not have achieved your initial goals, Windurin, but your video and the music is so wonderful it inspired me to do something similar as well. I love it!!
It's not a band, it's a composer... it was in the video description but here:
Music Used: 'None Of Your Business' from the 'Lady Vengeance' Soundtrack by Choi Seung-hyeon. So it's from the Korean film called 'Lady Vengeance' from the same director of 'Oldboy'.
Thanks for all the comments. I've recently been able to improve the clouds so that they are actually animated as opposed to static and the camera moves through them as opposed to just over them. And I've also adjusted the lighting to give it more atmosphere as the current one is a little bit bland. However, I still don't have my new PC which I would be able to render it a lot quicker on, so I will upload the new version when I get the new PC and have completed a new render.
Seems like you slowed the video itself down. the frame rate is sluggish

The song is called 'None of Your Business' by Choi Seung-hyeon. It is from the soundtrack to the film 'Lady Vengeance', directed by Park Chan-wook.

No, the problem is the GPU. It depends entirely on your GPU. If it was one of the newer nVIDIA models with PhysX, then it should process quite fast.
