For all of you Hendrix Fans, he did play a huge role in guitar rock...However he isnt the first to use distortion. Many others such as Dick Dale were experimenting years before. in fact Dick Dale blew up over 40 amps trying to get a good distored sound. He was successful, starting the surf rock genre.

one year after my first comment in this video I'm a guitarist too, and I can now rank these guys:

1-dave murray ( fast and at least as technichal as EVH but he never took any lesson, he just learned all by ear)

2-EVH (he re-invented the rock guitar)

3-hendrix (he was far ahead the others guitarists in his time)

4- jimmy page (amazing style)

5-ace (he's a sped up jimmy page with less melody)

6-angus young (he's got a very distintive style, but he's not as fast as the others)

7-slash

8-collins

Uh,I love the Zeppelin`s,Really one of the rocks greatests,But rating Page higher than Jimi Hendrix` blues-fretwork,Pick of tone,tune & the maybe most important,The mind of wonder when it comes to insane blues /rock/funk-improvisation..Live Page played well his studio-version,sometimes not far outside his "studio-patterns" ,Live Hendrix played/improvised what he felt every show,in some heavy downtuned shocking cool differnt way,always added beautyful tones with huge FEEL during his frenzies !

-The speed of Dave Murray (Dave can hellualot more amazing stuff than just a speed competition,anyway,fastest blues-shredding finger around)

-The musicial passion,feel & songstructure of Jimi Hendrix (DANG,I want his mind also,ULTRA-pioneer with musical mastermind,added huge tone& feel to anything IMPROVISED eyes-shut )

-The showperformance & stamina of Angus Young (No athletics can outrun Angus on a stage,haha)

SRV and David Gilmore could have easily knocked out Frheley, Slash, and Angus, EVH, Collens, and Murray. Once they got to Page and Hendrix it would be too close to call. Hendrix would probably end up on top though.

For my money, EVH was the first significant new kid on the block. He played a vital role in keeping kids interested in playing guitar, because they could look up to this cheeky little guy with a big smile.

Hendrix was amazing, but EVH was untouchable.
