I'm pretty sure the lyric @ 1:12 is:
"such a sadder eye will close again"
...and the lyric @ @ 2:43 is certainly:
"when the hairline breaks, and lets you in"
my interpretation of this song: two men are in a relationship, which is ending due to outside social pressure (when the hairline breaks, and lets you in); the man Sufjan is singing about has turned his love interest towards a woman (to the woman, you've turned red again).

i got into this song a few years ago (freshman year of college) the same time that a girl and i were hitting it off.. she was a virgin and walked out of my bedroom and straight back to her dorm because i was going too far too fast.. needless to say "can not keep you in my bed again" really hit a chord with me because i really liked her a lot.. we didnt talk for weeks

Guys, I think he's just using his voice, words, rhyme, vocabulary like... well, like another musical instrument. It's kind of jazzy. It doesn't have to particularly mean anything, although there is clearly some story being told here.

Y'all are reading into things way too much :P. Hairline breaks are small cracks in a hard surface that are usually numerous and irreparable, thus signaling the unavoidable disintegration of something, presumably not an actual object but a relationship or even the affection itself.
