Two economic models need to function simultaneously; the microeconomic model, where the little guy has to keep his budget balanced, and the macroeconomic, which balances the economy. The owners and managers of the companies get the lion's share of the income generated, which makes it impossible for the consumer to buy back what's produced. Therefor, some entity, like the government, has to make up the difference to preserve that 60% share that comprises the consumer economy.

Their printers always used to be my first recommendation until their quality fell apart and their ink prices became so high that we had to give away the printers to get people to take them. She bought out compaq to eliminate competition and jobs, but then got her ass reamed by dell. She burnt up HP.

The following comment has nothing to do with whether or not the former American workers of HP have cause to complain. If you are a CEO watching this video and you see the clips of disgruntled American workers and then you see the clips of satisfied workers in India, where would you prefer to hire your workers?
The excessive pay for chief executives in America is also not preordained. These American CEOs who think outsourcing only happens to the workers will get quite a shock in a few years. What makes Carly Fiorina think that there isn’t a CEO candidate in India that can do her job better and cheaper?
While the video may be telling the truth, you still don’t have to fall for the implied message hook, line, and sinker.
She is right that no job is preordained to be held by an American. If a company can get the job done just as well (or even better) by a foreign worker for less money, then it is the responsibility to the stock holders to make that move. American workers have to figure out what they are going to do to compete. Putting up trade barriers is not the answer.
@steve13565: Your implied message is even worse. Globalization is not "preordained." Our government can change the rules for corporations. Even capitalism can be done away with if it is proven harmful to our society. American workers have to figure out who is serving the corporate interest and VOTE THEM OUT! And no, Americans should not have to figure out how to compete for wages with people who live in mud huts!
The message you have inferred is not the one I implied. My message was solely one of "Wake up to reality"
I have not implied in my original posy what the ultimate solutions to this reality are. Before you propose solutions, it does help to face up to the challenge.
Among the solutions I might consider are:
1. Try to negotiate fair labor, environmental, and safety standards in all trade negotiations. This is forbidden by US law now. Negotiate does not mean coerce. No room
Well, at least we both agree that Americans needs to wake up to reality. And that reality is that Free Trade and corporate and private greed are hurting the American worker, our environment and ultimately threatening our future. Revolutions in America occur at the voting both and we are in sore need of one.
Free Trade has been given an undeserved bad rep by the way it has been practiced. Repubs have made it law that our negotiators are not allowed to take employment, environment, nor safety into consideration.
We also need to invest in education. We also do not need tax laws that promote outsourcing. Just having a level playing field would be an improvement.
Our consumers cannot finance recovery. We must boost exports.
I couldn't have said that better myself. Free Trade has to become Fair Trade, and Obama has to stop complaining about our unenthusiastic support and make Fair Trade his platform. It is his lack of enthusiasm for progressive change that is demoralizing his base.

I worked as a temp at the HP in Vancouver, WA for about two weeks a few years ago, right after her massive layoffs, and the mood around the place was sad to say the least. I work at HP, through an agency; The jobs they are eliminating aren't 'going to China and India', in every case; They're going sometimes to people who work through employment agencies, for less money/no benefits. And while that totally sucks, there's nothing to stop laid-off workers from getting their jobs back, even if its for reduced pay. I put up with 14 months of temp jobs and unemployment; It's someone else's turn now. That's the way it is. Sorry.

I was one of the 30,000. What is important to remember is that she lied to the institutional shareholders and the other shareholders of HP. We on the inside forecasted the layoffs during the due diligence leading up to the disastrous merger with Compaq, and she misrepresented the effects of the merger for her personal gain. I cannot tell you how happy I was the day the Board of Directors finally summoned the courage to fire her, and how sad I was for all of the people who had been affected.

Two economic models need to function simultaneously; the microeconomic model, where the little guy has to keep his budget balanced, and the macroeconomic, which balances the economy. The owners and managers of the companies get the lion's share of the income generated, which makes it impossible for the consumer to buy back what's produced. Therefor, some entity, like the government, has to make up the difference to preserve that 60% share that comprises the consumer economy.

Capitalism has changed over the last few decades, and for the worse. 'Globalism' (global Capitalism) has become all about lowering prices and wages, primarily by cheap labor jobs, whether they be in the low wage south, Mexico, India, China, or other parts of Asia, etc. At the same time, companies keep trying to cheapen our food by introducing cheaper ingredients that make us sicker, including genetically modified foods. Health insurance is high as well, where policies cost more than mortgages

Their printers always used to be my first recommendation until their quality fell apart and their ink prices became so high that we had to give away the printers to get people to take them. She bought out compaq to eliminate competition and jobs, but then got her ass reamed by dell. She burnt up HP.

Did BB do this by herself, not even close, but she did help some by pushing for education, defense, high tech research and the internet. While the video may be telling the truth, you still don’t have to fall for the implied message hook, line, and sinker.
She is right that no job is preordained to be held by an American. If a company can get the job done just as well (or even better) by a foreign worker for less money, then it is the responsibility to the stock holders to make that move. American workers have to figure out what they are going to do to compete. Putting up trade barriers is not the answer.

Free Trade has been given an undeserved bad rep by the way it has been practiced. Repubs have made it law that our negotiators are not allowed to take employment, environment, nor safety into consideration.
We also need to invest in education. We also do not need tax laws that promote outsourcing. Just having a level playing field would be an improvement.
Our consumers cannot finance recovery. We must boost exports.

I worked as a temp at the HP in Vancouver, WA for about two weeks a few years ago, right after her massive layoffs, and the mood around the place was sad to say the least. Absolutely giant campus, filled with cubicle farms, production facilities, exposition halls, an inventors paradise, etc. sparsely populated by a few sullen faces, eyes to the ground, do your job, don't ask questions.
