bells are pretty cool, and they're not haram in islam. even the first muslims thought about bells to announce the prayer time, but to avoid confusions (with churches) they decided on prayer calls with human voice. the melody of prayer calls may sound spooky to you, but it represents the traditions of 8th century arabia, what do you expect?
so aaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ois supposed to please the angels? Just kidding
that's a lie and a slander. muslims actually don't think church bells are haram - they just think the bells are just for christians. that's why muslims use the human voice as their call to prayer.
i have no problem with the church bell - it does sound nice but sometimes the incessant bell ringings can be irritating to me. despite that, it's the christian call to prayer - it's their religious right, so they have the right to retain it and i respect it and tolerate it. the muslim prayer calls are just spooky because you don't know what the words that are contained in them.
if you're really intrested in meaning of the words:
"god is great. i witness there's no deity except him. i witness mohammed is his messenger. let's pray. let's reach the salvation. god is great. there's no deity except him."
one can't understand the words without knowing arabic, as one isn't able to understand "miserere mei, deus" without knowing latin.

I heard the bells every day when I was staying at the Gloria Hotel inside the city last summer. It is a beautiful sound.
Much nicer than the Mulsim prayer calls (they just sound spooky.)
