@MrThahey For me it works great. If your used to burn charcoal, it is almost the same. There is no coke process. I know that there are various types of anthracite.
Mine as the exact same look as bituminous coal (glassy black) but it doesn't smoke and doesn't coke. There are some people who used anthracite that smoked a lot...it must have been a porous or brown anthracite (bad quality).
@MrThahey I also found that anthracite needs more air than charcoal or coal. If you use a hand crank blower, you will have to crank the handle often when you're not at the forge or the fire will goes off quickly. With an electric blower you're okay if you use a dimmer. To light it, it is somewhat difficult if it is the first time. The best method for me is to light some charcoal and when the charcoal is glowing hot...add anthracite a little by little. Too much and the fire will goes off.
@MrThahey I can reach welding heat easily with it. I use it because it is cheaper than charcoal and better for the environment than coal. If you have any other question feel free to ask.
how well does anthracite burn? I usually use charcoal, but got about 50 lbs of anthracite the other day.
