The true test of a martial arts is how well you can defend yourself in a fight. Chung Moo Quan is good physical conditioning but they don't teach you how to fight. Free style sparring, heavy bag work outs and grappling are practically non-existent. No matter how fit you are you can't win a fight if you lack technical skill and don'[t practice fighting.
@como651 Kim made up half these moves and forms taking them from Kung Fu magazines. These exercises also hurt MORE people then they cured. Those who were "healed" would be healed with any physical activity. But schools are back. They just have new names, new stories, and new excuses, and new victims
@BushidoCode72 To his credit it seemed to me he had designed a well balanced and effective conditioning program. However, anyone with existing injuries could easily aggravate those injuries and make them worse especially problems in the knees or back without proper instruction and graduated training. I do not discredit everything Kim did but his greed and deception is inexcusable.
@BushidoCode72 He actually stole some collection of loosening up techniqeus from his Korean teacher (and he was a shitty Long Soo Do practitioner) and some Kung Fu / Karate Illustrated. Most are just BS stretches. He didnt create anthing. Only thing he was good at was lying cheating, faking skills he never had, and faking photographs as if he was flying from one building to another. Read 'Herding the Moo" a book writen by an ex Regional Head Instructor who started with Kim.

C'mon this report is so screwed up. CMQ and John C. Kim have done so much damage in taking tens of thousands of hard earned money from people, abusing them physically, psychologically, and sexually (for women), taking over and ruining their lives and future, etc, and yet the news goes on and on about tax fraud as if it was the most horrific thing he committed. As if the IRS needed more money. What about the people that really got hurt?
This guy started out in Westmont, Illinois. He set up his school right along 2 other legitimate martial art schools, one a Traditional Judo dojo and another another is Kosho Ryu Jiu Jitsu.
Both Judo and Kosho Ryu Jiu Jitsu are valid and honorable martial arts.
Current student of Master Kim, ask him to show you his income statement, Balance sheet, and Federal Income Tax Returns. Ask him about his sources of his wealth. Ask him if it is fair to take 55% off the top from schools.
Okay so when did this happen? What year? Look, when you have certain instructors acting like they have a god complex, head straight for the door! Your sifu, sensei, guru is not God! He or she is a humanbeing. this is the very thing that Bruce Lee fought against
Thank you so much for being a citizen extradoinaire and posting this. Sadly John C. Kim's cult flourishes unabated throughout the world; anyone who doubts this can enter the words Oom Yung Doe into the search engine of this very site. At least the just at heart people of the world tried....
I have done a lot of research on the brainwashing process. Most cult groups, from the Mooneys, to Branch Davidians, to CMQ, etc. all use the same techniques. Isolate individual from any influencing sources (friends, family and even schools), make them feel unique and part of a larger greatness, convince them that others are in some way negative and evil, give them perception of power and fool them to believe there is greater power yet to gain. Finally, give them a supreme leader with answers.
One thing I remember from my brief time with CMQ is that my instructor would insist I maintain eye contact, even when he was verbally berating me (most of the time). Then there would be a long period of silence where he would just stare straight in my eyes. Looking back I wonder if he was trying some hypnotic technique.
@MAfanatic i live in a asian dense town i know a hell of alot of moonies i and even to this day i think they're wack jobs. but the half asian girls are hot
Religion & Scientology are like the fairy tales Mother Goose & Jack and the Bean stalk: Written to help the frightened little monkey's sleep at night
The belief in one fairy tale over another is completely arbitrary - And depends on which frightening story you heard as a child
In reality, people are simply afraid of the responsibility associated with having an "internal locus of control" - Thus, they invent saviors to hide behind when it gets dark out at night
I was at the CMQ schools. Most of the brainwashed were people who had life issues, felt weak, felt misunderstood or alone. They instantly began believing in lies about Kim's abilities. After hours of training, it took only a few months to get CMQ students to believe that they were a part of something great, something big. Once people felt that 'specialness' they would do anything for the school - even turn over all money.
I tried this school 1992 for 3 months. It was only $50/mo and I lived close by so it was a nice arrangement. After 3 mo. they told me I had to join the black belt program to get further training. Cost $260 a month for 2 years plus "test fees" for higher belts. When I refused to join they sais stuff like "Your body (with our training) is the most important investment you can make" and such. Hard sell techniques. I found a great Kung Fu school later on. So glad I never joined that cult.
Don't know about you, but I found the training to be excellent. I have probably trained with some who share their negative experiences with the training. In my opinion, many of them are 2 faced. They say they love the training. It is the best thing in the world... then BOOM, the training is the worst. Look in the mirror. The training is not the problem.
It isn't about the training. This is about the corruption of this organization. They could have the best training in the world and still be corrupt to the core, which they are. Stick around them and you'll see it too.
Thank you, finally an honest person who isn't caught up in the "bash OYD because everyone is." Which school do you train at? I'm in the Pittsburgh area Mt. Lebonan.
I feel sorry for you. You have to wake up. I have been a part of this group and when my instructors were arrested, I had the nerve to go to other schools. I finally woke up and discovered that other schools and training gyms provide 10 times more than OYD in health benefits and definitely self defense.
I hope this ends someday and you try to respect the privacy of those who have been hurt by these sickos and WHO WANT TO MOVE ON. Some of the old film footage contains people who may not wish to be seen here! Not everyone in these videos are "evil doers" but are victims too! Please try to remember that as you spend your days keeping this past alive, as it is not just YOUR PAST, it is ours as well.
I'm sorry you're so hurt by this. I truly am. But maybe people need to see this. Cults are dangerous but this is even more dangerous because they were flourishing through martial art schools. As a fellow martial artist im distrubed by this story. "Beware ye of False prophets."
I'm not hurt by this but tired of seeing it,when I thought I could forget! But looking at "kitsune511"'s post above, I know it nees to live longer. I just know some people might like to know they are on youtube without anyones permission! After the OYD,CMQ ordeal,I personally am more sensitive about things that are done without my opinion and consent first!
You know, I appreciate what you are doing, to keep the losers of OYD or the old CMQ from "winning". But now, to see this all over again here, is really sickening. There are alot of US trying to forget that part of our lives, (and YES IT IS ALL TRUE TO THOSE WHO ARE DOUBTERS)
Wow, I take Oom Yung Doe, and all this is a bunch of crap.
I am never threatened, extorted for money, or have any pressure on controlling my actions. There was no exploitation at all, and no cash demands. My instructor is polite, humble and very patient. Everytime I go there for practice, I feel great and am always treated with respect.
Not crap. These are the roots and history of OYD. Kim and co. went to jail for his corruption and greed. They have not learned their lessons, as the same things continue today. Stick around them long enough and you'll see.
I've been going there for 6 months now, the atmosphere has not changed. I agree that one of the OYD schools did this and it is unfortunate. Is this Kim guy some amazing Master? I don't know, and I don't care, I know what I get from practice and I love it for what it is NOW. You don't see people calling the Germans and Japanese evil anymore because of WWII do you? I made my judgements from my experience not from what I heard or was told.
You would call Germans evil if they still did what they did at the concentration camps. OYD is still headed up by the same greedy and morally corrupt people. You'll see eventually.
Have you ever gone to one of their schools or are you basing your judgements off of what you heard? I'm not saying this never happened
but what I am saying is the training that is taught does develop your body very fast which I have personal experience in. So regardless of what happened a while ago, I like the training I'm recieving and will continue to go because I found it to be rewarding not because I was told so.
Have I ever gone there? How's 10 years. Hopefully it won't take that long but you'll see the corruption soon enough. They are getting more and more desperate for money and even letting new students becoming school owners. That and if you find a real traditional master, you'll see that the training isn't as good as they claim. Speaking from 100% pure experience!
Apparently the stuff they taught was good enough for you to stay for a decade. If it wasn't, then you are a fool to waste money for 10 years. You can say that you were intimidated, which is also a poor excuse because the police exist for that reason to deal with the crime of threat. My instructors have a very deep knowledge of what they demonstrate, something a con man could not pull off. I've taken 3 MA for over 8 years, so I know if someone's teaching BS in techniques.
It was great when I was a teenager and didn't know there was anything better. Now I know much better. Wish I left earlier. Your instructors are not deep at all and none of them can apply the "great techniques" they are teaching you.
Once Kim got the perm, lots of the upper belts did too. Actually his English was bad. He made fun of me once for not understanding him, while I was thinking if he was the master he should be able to make himself understood.

You make an extraordinary point!
Cognitive neurologist, Lakoff, in The Political Mind, shows us that man does NOT represent the 18th century Enlightened Man model!
Rather, man is run by his subconscious; which is developed by his surrounding environment
Man is not a rational creature; and, is easily persuaded by his environment
Many men over the course of history have taken advantage of this fact
The US education sys was created by Rockefeller & Dewey to make passive the USA
