  • I do not understand why they fucked with the lyrics. The boat is supposed to be coming UP the river. From civilization, up into the hills. This is about an isolated, rural place being visited by violence from downriver.

Margot sings that the boat is coming DOWN the river. What?! If there's a place upriver that has armed boats then they would go past all the time to get to the sea. There would be nothing strange about one coming down the river.

    Grrrrrrrrrrr.

  • Margo's voice and the Junkies version puts ole Neil to shame.

    It's a sad, lamenting song. MARGO A+

  • @PavePaws FUCK OFF! No One Puts anyone to shame. It's a different take on a beautiful song. They couldn't have done this version if "ole Neil" handn't written the Goddamn thing now could they?

  • master and commander?! love it

  • this song is fantastic and margo's voice is so beautiful. thank you junkies.

  • Could you tell me the name of the movie? Thanks...

  • um yeah wrong war..

    ~the barefoot girl

  • What the name of the picture?

  • The Revolutionary War, by the looks of the ships, clothing,, and period pieces but it's hard to tell we had many " squirmishes" in the mid 17th centuary It looks like a good flick so please let me know if you find it ..I'll return the favor.

  • Very nice cover!

    Peace

    Massy

  • Very good cover by The Cowboy Junkies of this great tune of Neil's - don't think the images entirely go with the song, which is fine - I don't like vids. that are excessively literal in illustrating a song - think there is a middle ground way - I've always pictured this song taking place in some southern U.S. inland backwater river/woods area perhaps during the Civil war - but great Post!!

  • @sirdoug3 Yea thats what I've always thought, I can picture a rocky river bank with trees all around. I grew up on the Ohio river so it's easy for me tp picture.

  • @sirdoug3 Yes, your right this is definitely a Civil War song.

  • This version is an excellent cover of Neil Youngs song ... but your slideshow really doesn't go with it.

  • problem is you can't find a proper version of the song with Crazy Horse.....

  • This is a salute to Neil and one of my favorite covers. Thanks for posting!

  • Great tune but I can't help but to think "We shall beat to quarters"

  • The day I stopped reading music critics was the day I heard this song. The Caution Horses was trashed by these writers. So many years later, I just don't see it. This song sealed it for me. A completely different, most tender approach to Neil Young's genius, done with respect, respect for everyone, life, everything.

  • Thanks sal, couldn't have said it better. Wonderful cover.

  • @salparadise63 When I was 19 I had my wages and walked into a record store and was just browsing and saw Caution Horses and took a punt and bought it and was in love ever since.

  • Big John's been drinkin' since the river took Emmy Lu.Daddys's gone out hunting in the mountains.I was wondering what to do.daddy's gun in my hand felt reassuring.

  • Still looking for Neil Young singing this number at LIVEAID

  • He's shy:-)

  • Hi Suzzy, Sorry I've been on a trip lately and was slow to answer.

most of those shot came from "Master and Commander" with Russel Crow.

  • Yes it is, I should have known, but no worries, thank you for your comment. I adore this song, it can bring me to tears...

  • Rarely seen cover but a good one.

  • This is one of my favorite Neil Young covers. I also like Johnny Cash's covers of "Heart of Gold"(w/ Red Hot Chilli Peppers) & "Pocahontas."
