The pilot is a black female, who caused the accident. She was instructed to do a flyover and if she couldn't be sure that she could safely land the aircraft then she was to continue on to Pittsburgh. She had worked for USAir for quite some time and had a spotless record before the accident. She was fired as a result of the crash, because this crash could've been avoided, according to the NTSB. But it is rumoured that she was one of the most courteous employees ever to wear a USAir uniform.
Wow! I worked with Carol Potter (female witness) at Value City when it was still Mason's Dep't. Store at 12th and Pittsburgh in 1979. What a trip to watch this .
@SugarSweettart Actually, Grant City was in the plaza on the east side of Pittsburgh Ave., where Valu Home center is now. There is a fitness center in the space that held Grant City. Masons (Value City) was on the west side of Pittsburgh ave., where Big Lots is now. But thanks for reminding me of another old Erie entity! I remember seeing Santa Claus land in the Grant City parking lot in a helicopter on a Thanksgiving afternoon! That was probably 1972 or 1973...
