this shows that basses can do anything... and that they are th bomb... I am singing this for contest and it's really difficult becauase it is just a very difficult song, and i just think being a soprano to hit a hi b flat is pretty dang hard
This is a wonderful piece of music and the lyrics are moving. I can not believe that I have never heard it before in my almost 50 Christmases. This should be a standard.
A beautiful song in whatever language it is sung. I don't speak a word of Italian, but it still moves me. Don't know who Tozzi was (obviously decades ago), but he was a very good tenor/baritone. Think about the WORDS and don't get hung up on language...God manifested in the flesh! Wow!
This is the only time I have ever heard this Christmas song in English. Usually only hear instrumentals or Italian, when sung. Was saddened to see one of the comments to this beautiful song refer to the Blessed Pope John XXIII as a bastard. Very sad, indeed.
I've sung it in Italian and in English. For this Christmas,as part of a prelude to Mass, I arranged it for two sopranos accompanied by piano and violin. It was beautiful. Of course, the sopranos had everything to do with that! This is by far my favorite Christmas song.
I would have loved to have heard your arrangement of this beautiful old carol. I bet it was truly beautiful. Of the versions that I have seen or heard performed, I guess my favorite is still Luciano Pavarotti's with Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal about 25 years ago.
Too bad it's not in Italian: the words are better. Poor Pietro Yon: this is the only work of his that's ever performed any more: Vatican II hit just in time to make his Mass settings obsolete in practice. Anyway, a fine performance.
Fantastic!

How to lovely to hear this in English. Beautiful voice. You have heard it before. This the voice of Rosano Brazzi in the movie South Pacific.

Could you let me me have the English words. I'd like to sing this at church at Christmas with the choir.
