It's interesting how the properties of water have changed so much throughout different Ages, from being anthropomorphic in Serenia to thermophobic in Riven to indestructible in Narayan to spontaneous in Amateria.
For all of you asking about this game here, I didn't make this trailer, but I found it, fan-made, and very well-done, representing the game nicely. There are spoilers in here, so if you want to play it, look at other Myst III: Exile trailers. /watch?v=Lh-xRgCgCqU&feature=plcp&context=C3b1be7fUDOEgsToPDskKnCuW2p6KUxweOIgaHqGh1
At the start of this sequence it took me a half a minute before I had the epiphany (if you could call it that for a CD-ROM game) that I would be riding on all the seemingly unconnected structures through the three puzzle areas of this level. One of the most amazing experiences from a game I have ever had. To be really obscure, it was a similar experience to what happened while reading Neal Stephenson's book Anathem, about 3/4 of the way through when a character reveals a major plot point.
Impressive cutscene and the puzzles in this age were pretty clever. But why the hell would any society build the marble puzzles in the first place? There's no reason for a lot of the things in Myst III to exist, like there were in the previous two games.
@NoSoup4you From what I remember, Atrus built those Ages as training tools for Sirrus and Achenar. Saavedro changed the access codes as a way to punish Atrus.
Best part of the game! I still remember hitting that button and then when I saw it move me up into the ball I thought "oh my god no way, I'm going to ride in this thing? SWEET!"
The roller coaster was definitely the most amazing and memorable part of the game for me. The ride goes on for so long. Once the puzzle was complete, I saved just before the ride, so I could repeat it again and again. Awesome.
Not only is this probably one of the best cutscenes from a video game EVER, the idea behind it is golden. You spend all that time completing puzzles...only to realize that you were actually programming your very own rollercoaster. The entire age is one Build-It-Yourself! Machine.
hm...it seems that this rollercoaster proves to the player how every puzzle that they have solved is useful to get to the symbol...interesting. great work cyan
I animated and lighted this at Presto Studios. It was a complete cheat to get it to feel like a roller coaster. There's no way the ball would maintain speed. It was a fun challenge to make it feel like the it was rolling because of gravity..
@ChrisNeuhahn Sorry forgot Presto made it. Good job on the coaster though. Shame the ball wouldn't roll for ya. Still could maybe build a coaster and a ball.... with rockets=P
man... this was my favourite age in any myst game just because it was so organized and logical and such a cool concept, but I still think Riven was the best overall game of all 5.
The Myst games were great, superb graphics and the games were really challenging. They also made you feel as if you were in another world. Shame they haven't made any games really like this for a while.
Absolutely just ask UbiSoft and all of their employees to spend millions of dollars and several months recreating that scene because it wasn't to your standard.
Aaah, I love Amateria. Definitely worth the trouble and patience. The puzzles were indeed very hard and sometimes frustrating, but this.. this made it all worth it. I love Myst III: Exile. <3
I like how, just as you are about to start down the ride, the camera moves and looks around, as if the person sitting in it has gone "Oh crap..." and finally realized what is about to happen to them. This was the best part of the game by far!

With these graphics and Cyan's original wire framing from this map, I don't see why someone can't build this single roller coaster ride.

I don't knowm, I'm kind of partial to Spyre from 'Myst IV: Relvalation.' Though I have to agree, Amateria is within the top three if not the best.

But being a sarcastic douchebag is certainly WAY better. Thanks for your answer.

But sarcastic douche bag is my way. And there is no in game camera that you can see outside your body. A body that doesn't exist in till URU.
