Ah, Ft. Benning is where all our wildest dreams come true. My 3rd jump was the best PLF ever. They dropped me over the woodline, and I never touched the ground.
Here is the deal.......... this vid is about what I went through and many others to earn their wings. All the other arguing is Busllshit. Either YOU ARE AIRBORNE OR YOU A RE A LEG.
get it straight. Too many posers talking shit here. If u did NOT go through this school shut the fuck up. Airborne 86
My dad took me on a tour of this school when I was a kid. this is where he trained in the 1960s. I remember a soldier saluting my dad, my dad had a cap on with his wings and some kind of badge. It was cool to me st the time!
The Parachute(Airborne) Infantry Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne are extremely well trained in raid, ambush, urban warfare, airfield seizure tactics and many more. Most of these 82nd Parachute(Airborne) Infantry guys are Ranger-qualified and or Pathfinder-qualified and or sniper-qualified and or Air Assault-qualified and many more. In their capabilities, the 82nd Airborne(Parachute) Infantrymen are just below the Rangers but way ahead of marine infantry.
When I went to the jump school , there were 4 marine recons, Two of the marines couldn't make it, because one marine couldn't keep up with the runs and another marine froze at the door of an airplane. The dropout rate at the marine boot camp is only11.7%(DoD statistics) and according to the jump school, the dropout rate is about 28%. So becoming a Paratrooper is a lot harder than becoming a marine.
@DumbHonkie1 You also remember that the qualities of jump school trainees are a lot higher than those of the raw recruits at the marine boot camp. The jump school trainees already went thru the basic and AIT training and among them you will find a lot of Special Forces,Ranger, Seals, marine recon trainees. Even so the dropout rate at the jump school is a much higher rate of about 28%, compared to the very low dropout rate of 11.7% at the marine boot camp'
@DumbHonkie1 The marine boot camp dropout rate(11.7%) is from the statistics of the Department of Defense. By the way the Army basic traning dropout rate is 13.6%. You didn't know that the Army's basic training dropout rate is higher than that of the marine boot camp.
Passing the jump school is the easiest part of being a Paratrooper. Thhe jump school teaches you how to jump out of a plane, nothing more. If you are physically in good shape and have no fear of heights, then you won't have any problem passing it. The real hard training starts when you get to your Airborne unit. The washout rate of 'cherries'(new jump school graduates) at an Airborne unit is very high. If you don't meet your Airborne unit's standards, you will be sent to a leg unit very fast.
Great video. I'm looking into joining the Army soon, and one of the MOS's that I was strongly considering was 38B, Civil Affairs. However I read that being airborne is a requirement. Why are CA's required to be airborne? Jumping out of airplanes really wasn't my idea, but I'll go through the school if I really have to. Thanks!
Check out the Brits Elite 2 Para at "Parachute 2 Club", lots of photos of these elite troops, who provide most of the men for the Special Air Services SAS
I'm curious about either Army Airborne or Marines. I'm terrible at push-ups (I can do maybe 32) though.....any advice about Airborne training or anything?
@Sniperhound4 u'll be okay. the first 2-4 weeks of BT will have you in great shape as long as you dont quit. after that u just gradually build strength and cardio but those first couple weeks'll be alot easier than ppl make it out to be. AIT is where the shit gets intense.
@guitarhamster102 the push ups for example....what could pass in basic or ait wont pass here, you have to do 42 PERFECT pushups, im talking flat as a board, i ended up doing 56, like 99% of everyone ends up having to do more than 42 because they make you do them perfect, the track is a mile long, twice around but the run is easy...if you get past the pt test then its all gravy after that. oh and they make you run evvverrrryyyyyyywhere you go. in boots, acu's, and helmet
@caddop22 yep got wings in jan of 87 we kept getting delayed because of wind on last jump went to 101rst so im only a 5 jump chump =) but i did to atleast go through air assult school.
@fearcaptainamiley not entirely tru they don't allow just anyone their is only 1% of the total population that is able bodied its restricted from height weight as is army too the cut off for marines is 28 years old for army its 45 u have to have ur high school diplomat to even go to marine boot army they have basically a summer camp for those who r still in high school! Seriously they go during the summer and go back to high school afterwards till they graduate
@YoungSteve17 I had a problem at meps so I have to pick a new mos and I no longer leave today. I go back to meps next week and I'm going to pick 11X and from what I hear I'll probably leave around April.
I'm irish and have been wanting to do something like this since I was very young is there anything that would stop me from joining the 101st airborne straight away if I went over to the US.
@XxTHEGAMERxX1 101st is not airborne. It's only "airborne" by name for historical reason. It's mainly air assault division now. They jump out of helicopters, not planes.
you kno u do realize that the marines dont take anyone they only take so many the army has more open slots therefore they r more leniant and i have talked to many army guys their training isnt as intense yea im actually at jump school right now and its ewasy and no the marines also have air ops, marsoc, and angelco so if u want to talk shit kno ur facts
@iniguez2010 so basically it's like with the CF here. People your basically competing for a certain number of jobs, even if you meet the standards they want to take people who exceed it.
@TheArmyHATER wow dude your a fucking joke for a marine. you talk shit about the army but yet marines HAVE TO GO TO THE ARMY for airborne school, hell you even send guys to us for ranger school. my point is that all your shit talking about the army means jack cause we have better schools than you do so you send marines to learn what the army does. yeah you got force recon but are they a part of SOCOM? NO!marines only part in socom is to train allies and not even like army SF behind enemy lines.

@bea175 and ANOTHER THING, these guys are 507th -INFANTRY- training to become airborne, so if ur gonna say shit like "507th is airborne too blah blah" stfu
@walkertexasranger33 Special forces are the Green Beret, Seals, etc. airborne are infantry soilders who jump from a plane to the front lines rather than arrive by truck or marching. Sometimes, however the airborne is called upon to do missions that would be closer to special forces rather than regular infantry. Such as D-Day in WW2, the airborne landed on the beaches at midnight the night before the invasion. They landed behind enemy lines to disable AA guns, artillery, etc for a safer invasion.
@OGLoneWolf1882 KK thanks, I guess being airborne gives you the status of being more elite. Btw Seals are special operations, Green berets are special operation forces
My gosh I miss this. I went from 5th SFG(A) to a leg unit. I would give the army back the hazzard pay I got if they would let me jump with them again.
I will be 60 years old in a few days and i have nothing to prove or lie about. I was a Paratrooper in the 101st and will always have those memories . My typing error doesn't change the facts . I can remember Benning like it was yesterday.
@bea175 I agree, I am 68 and went through jump school at Ft Benning in November of 1963 and on to the 82n Abn at Fort Bragg. These are some of my fondest memories...even getting air sick on most every jump I was on. Over the years I longed to jump again, it was not until I found that I could take ginger root to keep from getting air sick did I jump again. When I turned 60, I went through the sky diving training and made 5 more jumps.
@bea175 well if you really were in the 101st I want to know that when I turn 18 I'm enlisting and I was wondering if I should go Army Airborne or Marine Corps any advice is appreciated
the trolls have the right to post their foul comments because people like us stand guard at night across the world so they can have this right Airborne All the Way 101th
ugh i cant take it!!!!! army marines army marines which one!!!!!!!! uhhh army no no marines get to the battle first but army has great barraks marines have awsome bdu's and uniforms um...ahhh! uhh army awsome acu's ahh fuck it army? yeah i think i'll join the army and then join the airbourne!
@anglesofdeathawait Good luck, sir. Thank you for serving the country in the US military, and for answering my comment. I hope to one day follow in your foot steps.
@pr7820 Wrong video to leave your anti-American diatribe. Most of the people posting are current and former military who are used to whinners who have nothing to show for in their miserable lives. Your anger is the result of your self pity and jealousy, and you couldn't rationalize the truth if it bitch-slapped you in the face. You are just a poor ignorant bigot who uses America as his excuse for everything bad in his life.
@ChronicSilver88 You're right, anyone with common sense will tell you that it's really all mind. You can be a fatass and just out of a plane and land just fine. What then he said that it's all about body and not mind..No, That's just some bullshit the army fed him and he believed it. I'm an Army soldier myself and I can definitely tell you that alot of is mental. Seriously....it's mental.
@MarvelBC3MW3BEER I think as you get older, you will find out that what branch you served in is less relevant. We are all veterans who served our country, our constitution and our people. And NOBODY can take that away from us.
MY SISTER WAS PART OF 63RD NYSNG ENGINEERING BATTIOLN FIRST SENT IN TO NY AFTER 911,SHE THEN JOINED ACTIVE ARMY, 1 TOUR IN KOREA(IDK)(WAT ARMY DIV.) SHE KNOWS. SENCE THEN SHES BEEN APART OF OF THE 101ST, TWO TOURS IRAQ, AND NOW IN AFGHAN(OUT OF FT.CAMBLE KY/TN. SHE FLIES HOME IN OCTOBER WITH THE REST OF HER COMPANY. SHES A BAD BITCH THO, SHE SAID SHE SENN DUDES RUNNING ALONG THE ROOFTOPS , AFTER CURFEW. ONE BURST, TWO BURST, THREE ITS URS. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM(50.)
I would think that your mind controls your body, not flipped around. It's your mind that tells your body to jump, and if you really don't want to jump, you probaly won't.
@BeezieMadden13 that makes sense. But when that sergeant said the body, not the mind is in control, he meant that in the "heat of the moment" when the adrenaline is flowing and your heart is at 200+ bpm, your cognitive ability is gone, and you can rely only on instinct, and what you have trained hundreds of times over

OGLoneWolf1882 6 months ago
@OGLoneWolf1882 KK thanks, I guess being airborne gives you the status of being more elite. Btw Seals are special operations, Green berets are special operation forces

My gosh I miss this. I went from 5th SFG(A) to a leg unit. I would give the army back the hazzard pay I got if they would let me jump with them again.

I will be 60 years old in a few days and i have nothing to prove or lie about. I was a Paratrooper in the 101st and will always have those memories . My typing error doesn't change the facts . I can remember Benning like it was yesterday.

caddop22 4 months ago
@bea175 I agree, I am 68 and went through jump school at Ft Benning in November of 1963 and on to the 82n Abn at Fort Bragg. These are some of my fondest memories...even getting air sick on most every jump I was on. Over the years I longed to jump again, it was not until I found that I could take ginger root to keep from getting air sick did I jump again. When I turned 60, I went through the sky diving training and made 5 more jumps.
Airborne all the way...

We went through the jump tower and repel tower there for JCLC. It was great. Hooah.

I would think that your mind controls your body, not flipped around. It's your mind that tells your body to jump, and if you really don't want to jump, you probaly won't.
BeezieMadden13 8 months ago
@BeezieMadden13 that makes sense. But when that sergeant said the body, not the mind is in control, he meant that in the "heat of the moment" when the adrenaline is flowing and your heart is at 200+ bpm, your cognitive ability is gone, and you can rely only on instinct, and what you have trained hundreds of times over
powerboy514 8 months ago
@BeezieMadden13
No the Jump Master tells you to jump and you will. That plane ride is a one way ticket. AIRBORNE!!
