Are you supposed to open your fingers on release or let them slide off? Ive been doing the latter. I use a longbow but surely the principles are the same.
I've read that if one does not arrows of the right stiffness, accuracy will be bad. However I find this hard to believe because how could primitive peoples have made arrows with consistent "spine," using primitive manufacturing methods?
@wildbucky You can kill a deer with much less than a bow that pulls 45 lbs. Worry more about accuracy than your poundage. I would rather have a bow that shots slower but am deadly with than a bow that is more weight than i could handle.

@yoda7272 hold at full draw. you realy dont wana shoot any bow unless its at full draw. and always aim at the point you will be releaseing at. weather it be full draw or not. you wont shoot accuratly otherwise. and no its not bad to hold any bow at full draw, if it cant take it then its a bad bow.
Iv got a 60 # takedown recurve and I'm going to hunt with it this year , I killed a buck with a 45# wood recurve last year will they shoot about te same
hello body i really like your tecnich,,, i almost do the same and i have more ideas went i saw your video is simple and not to much talk i really like the way you shoot . my lonbow is fiberglas but trow arrow strait and i hit the target always.. good hunt body
@travers808 for hunting as u probaly know you can not hunt on public land without having a bow of atleast 45 lbs but if your on private dont go below 35 it also depends on your muscel strength ..... if you swim alot or activites like that you can probably pull like 60 but definetly dont go over that
@halomanofdoom117 laws are different for each state, check your local regulations. . . here in Maryland its 30lbs no matter where you hunt . . . its totally okay to go above 60lbs, I'm not sure where you got that . . . I shoot a 70lb recurve now and then . . .
@travers808 around 50# is a good starting point for hunting, you can go a lot lower than that . . . but that is just my comfortable weight for hunting
@Guitararcher may i mention that the draw length of the bow arrow length and weight of the arrows play in also that many seem to use a bow thats too heavy for them, when the do pull it back it seems to send the arrow to the left (right hand shooters and the opposite for the others) if you use a bow with insufficient draw length you are endangering yourself and others if you over draw it and it snaps and if the arrows are to short your anchor point can be thrown off and or shoot yourself (hand)
@minibikerider1 overdrawing a bow isn't dangerous towards anyone . . . just about every traditional bow is measured at 28" that doesn't mean that is as far as they should be drawn back . . . its like a vehicles horsepower being measured at 2500 RPMs . . . does that mean you can't take a vehicle beyond 2500 RPMS just becuase its labeled at 300HP at 2500RPMS?
@Guitararcher well thats weird i shoot traditional and i see a couple a year bust there bows by pulling them to far back the majority are beginners using others bows
@minibikerider1 noo that's ridiculous . . . traditional bows are stress tested well beyond 35". If you see bows exploding its due to delamination, not overdraw . . .
Why use a finger guard? After i shot my bow alot my fingers got toughened up so im just wondering if i dont use a finger guard will it affect my shot plz answer:)
@flowblue81 I use a fingered glove after shooting at a buck once in -0 degree temps . . . it killed my fingers . . . but it shouldn't affect your shooting at all.
if you shoot at one target at the same distance its not instinctive. your using your prrevious shot as help for what elevation to hold the bow. the best is to set up 4 or 5 targets at different distances and shoot at them at random
Nicely done. You aim, release and hope. That's the essence of instictive shooting! I like the way you say "I shoot 3 fingers split" and "I anchor with the middle finger" - now we're getting to it! Everyone is different. I anchor under the jawbone, personally, and there's no right or wrong way to do it. Instictive archery is just that, focus on the target, and release, without a scientific method. Love it.
Instinctive shooting is = you anchor the arrow a`little bit beside your eye (periferic sightening) or unintentional sighting that a cures beside your vie,and not sighting after the Arrow or the Point, who'd be the correct term!
Like you throw a`snowball or A`stone= repeating the motion in the right way makes you consistent.
By the way! if you shoot a`Bow whiteout sights it is not automatically Instinctive.
It is only Instinctive if you don`t sight after the Arrow or Point.
And yes i think it is imported (especially for Kids) what ever you do the to use the correct terms,or it becomes like whit the Instinctive shooting AL the misleading info over the years led to that people don`t now what Instinctive shooting is or how to do it?
And! yes Guitar archer is doing a`great job,and he is a`great Archer ;-) - G
Greyarcher don't try to be so technical this kid does a great job with his videos so he only had a huge dissclaimer at the begining! So relax and just enjoy shooting the whatever ones style maybe!
OK! i am just telling how importend it is that people that are educating others get their facts straight so not to teach something wrong it takes for ever to correct those wrong things you have done for years!!!!
So if your not 100% don`t tell it like you now it. ;-)
@Greyarcher1 IDK that disclaimer RIGHT at the beginning was pretty clear I thought . . . If you shoot a bow without sights it is instinctive, I aim by looking at a spot on the target . . .
@Guitararcher i got a bullseye on my first shot with my first bow man i love bows and there good for a person who doesnt want to attract alot of attention.
@Guitararcher i got a bullseye on my first shot with my first bow man i love bows and there good for a person who doesnt want to attract alot of attention.
can u use the same arrows you use in a compound..i dont have any with feathers..most of my arrows have blazer vanes...ive been using beeman carbon explorer arrows with 4" plastic vanes (or however long the old vanes are) and i dont have any string silencers or quiver..how can i get a quiver mounted?
@fishnkid1923 i think you'll find that the arrows you shoot with your compound will be a bit short. But if they are not they will work okay, depends on the spine and all of those characteristics. But that is what I used when I first started. People will say you shouldn't shoot vanes with a traditional bow because the plastic makes them hop off the riser, but that is BS. You can mount a quiver if its tapped, but you don't need to they make a quiver that just slides up the limbs!
@Guitararcher how much would a quiver cost?Yeah the arrows are a little short..i shot it today and did all right,i made a target out of a bunch of plastic bags put into a bunch of plastic bags, and ductaped or however u spell that..its about the size of a cantelope and i can come pretty close to it and ive hit it a few times from like 15 yards,haha..but i am consistent..i have put 3 or 4 arrows right to the right of the target or right under it. which is a good thing
nicely put together clip, the comment about backtension is correct, not so much as not using it but using wrong muscle groups, youre using arms more to hold the bow and not shoulders (Scapula) try raising elbow slightly during draw and turning elbow towards shoulder to engage shoulders more think you can make some nice improvements in consistency and accuracy that way.
Nice fluid and relaxed shooting style and enjoyed watching, keep up the good work.
I'm also self taught and have used Fred Asbells techniques after buying 2 books of his and a video. Instinctive is the way to go, much more fun than compound shooting with tons of attached gadgets (for me, personally. Tried both, prefer recurve). Nice vid, glad to see someone else that appreciates the sport. Keep shooting. :)
you aim instinctively. Theoretically you look at what you want to hit, and with practice that is how it works. I do shot with both eyes open, but everyone is different. I used to close one eye. But it is easier to shoot instinctively with both eyes open. If you have any more questions feel free to ask:)
