@xpaddy01 the guy in the photograph was one of the design team at the BBC - in-universe he's meant to be the Dictator of the parellel Britain as he appears on some propaganda posters as well. They just felt he had a good look for a despot..
has been my fave over the last ten or so years because I've been through the same shit trying to get my bloody insurance straitened out. America must be in a paralell universe because it's getting more and more like that interrogation scene with Who, Brigade, and Shaw.
What I've found funny is that Verity Lambert seemed to not be fond of Jon Pertwee's Doctor because he "took it too seriously," but what's funny is I think he had the perfect balance of tough guy, fun guy and grandfather in him. His was one of the few Doctors who has been a truly rounded character.
Jon Pertwee - BEST DOCTOR EVER . . . . . PERIOD !!!!!!!!
I love Sci-Fi Stories that deal with Parallel Universes . Would be cool if todays Writers could do one where the Master is a live , but he's a good Guy , but the Doctor is the bad Guy instead of being good , the Time Lords are totally evil , but all the Time Lords in our Universe that we know [ the Master , War Chief , the Rani , the Meddleing Monk ] are all goodies . Even Davros and his Daleks , and any other Doctor Who Villian is good .
@sqccccccccc WHAT ???? . . . . . why should he bear Vampire Teeth ?, Time Lords are not Vampires, this isint Buffy the Vampire Slayer where talking about here !!.
@doctorwhoone Learn your Whoniverse history - the Time Lords fought a war with the Great Vampires back in the Dark Times. If you want such a cliched Mirror Universe story, having the vampires win that war is a pretty good starting point.
Looks like BP doing the same in the Gulf.. Gulf stream speeds up from the heated water and London enjous higher temps.. Russian weather modification assists with a heavy hurricane season soon to come.
One little thing that always annoyed me was that if the monarchy has been abolished in this universe, why are still seemingly handing out knighthoods? Sir Keith should just be Mr Gold.
Watched this recently for first time, very very good, good story, very intriguing.... good performances and definate charecter development. Special effects not too bad, however this is 4o years old of course. (nice NOt to have CGI and overblown music actually!) However the restoration of this story is also a star as well; it looks great!! The reverse standards connversion on this DVD is excellent. Really worth watching.
i've only watched this one once (really need to get it on DVD) but from what i remember is probably my favourite pertwee adventure. when you think about the totalarian version of our world which is presented, it really is quite a scary vision of what might be...
Definitely's Pertwee's best year of stories. Things became too "safe" in later years with UNIT. Inferno's probably the best one of the lot, although all 3 others have got strong cases. Personally I think this stands up as the very best year of the classic series (don't watch the new one so can't comment).
Pertwee gave less condescending performances in this year as well, he and the Brigadier seemed far more equal than they subsequently became. Pity this was lost.
I love Inferno: it's my very favourite Who story. I'm attracted to compellingly bleak, dystopian fiction, and Who dosen't get any bleaker than this. Mind you on original viewing I thought I was watching a documentary about how Britain has developed under New Labour ;)
Would have thought the alternate Liz might have said something better than she did on first meeting the Doctor. Even military types in totalitarian states surely aren't robots?
Actually state authoritarianism, supression of free speech etc. is far more likely under our current government! In fact moves have already been made to that end. I can see the EU ending up like this: the more politically correct a government is, the more authoriatarian it becomes. Scary.
I love the later line when the doctor says he doesn't exist in this universe, and the Brig replies, "Then you won't feel the bullets when we shoot you".
I never had a chance to see the entire episode but the final chapte was quite good. I found the Third Doctor to be quite good. I think he could have gone on longer.

Out of curiosity, who is the man in the picture behind the Brigadier's desk?

I love how the Brig turns 'round in his chair; it's like dramatic chipmunk!

How Britain would be if the BNP wins an election. England prevails.
ThomasJeromeNewton 2 years ago
And without the BNP, Britain will be a muslim state. Is this better?
SamHawkens 2 years ago
better that than Norsefire or Oswald Mosely.
btw, isn't britain a theocracy with the anglican church of england already? Richard dawkins or not.
so, a muslim state like Iran or a state full of muslims like Pakistan?
ThomasJeromeNewton 2 years ago
Established church =/= theocracy.
thelyniezian 2 years ago
certainly not, in fact any religion would harm britain
