It's a shame that Kinect won't support sign language after all. That would've been real nice for deaf people.

If Valve really wants to make their games accesible for the deaf then they have a gigantic task ahead of them. There are so many important audio cues in games. Just imagine all the directions where (gun)sounds are coming from in a shooter. How would one make those into visual cues and still have the screen be 'readable' at a glance?

And sign language would be such a strange yet great feature in such a widespread game such as Half Life. Such ways to implement it would be pretty strange too. Maybe they could even give us a quick tutorial? Maybe this "Hearing Impaired Rebel" could give us hints and clues to the task at hand, but we would first need to understand him? Who knows?

Hmm, very interesting. I'm not deaf, but I thought this was really neat, and good for Gabe to think about the deaf people as well. Thumbs up to Valve. Only problem i had with the three videos is they were very hard to hear. I had to turn up the volume all the way just to hear what was being said. Seems gabe did not have a mic on him which would explain this somewhat.

You obviously aren't familiar with the development cycles of Valve games. Do you have any idea how long TF2 and HL2 took to come out? The episodes are taking a normal amount of time for a development house as lazy as Valve.

Do you know there were over 1000 maps originally created for various stages of Half-Life 2 before the came across the final set? Team Fortress 2 was in development for a long time too, dating back from just after the post-Half-Life days.

VALVe spend a lot of times on their games and that makes them good. They put a lot of solid hours in there.

They work on various projects at a time + have to keep steam updated. That's quite a chore.

Gabe you are gold. Catering to deaf people is not only considerate to thee deaf community, but will hopefully result in more innovative gameplay mechanics. Imagine stealth scenes where Alyx is instructing you via simple signs to navigate your way around combine patrols, or new enemies with super sensitive hearing that you have to avoid
