Thanks for the further info. Foo was feared by top players not that they think they couldnt beat him but he would make them press their muscles and drain their last drop of sweat to beat him. The mercurial Zhao lost to Foo many times. Foo contribution to badminton is the defensive dive to the side lines to retrieve sideline smash. He was the 1st to do so and today all the top players do that including Lin Dan and LCW.

As pointed out by Sonny Mak, Misbun Sidek had managed to beat another China player Chen Zhang Jie in the 1983 World Cup previously.
