  • the new II war game theme

  • Absolutely amazing work !!! : )

This must have taken ages to complete . . .

    Thumbed up and subbed ;D

  • Good old Computer!

  • This is great. I think what I am most interested in is to know what it was filmed with. It looks completely period authentic--not like it was recorded with modern cameras with a vintage filter.

  • Can't stop listening! Awesome!

  • Allright I didn't see the full video, it's def. a speccy.

  • I think that's a spectrum. 1st it's got colour in the loader screen, 2nd it says (c) 1982, which is a speccy.

  • @Fifty1stState

    read description

  • *_*

  • Souns like a Muse

  • Bald modem?

  • Brilliant

  • I can't believe my eyes!!! this is awesome!!!!!

  • This is so badass.

  • Damn, this is epic :) Excellent job, both on the music itself and the video.

  • Radiohead!

  • I honestly love this!

  • Very nice effect and epic video editing, yeah.

  • HDD song is so really!!!! Wow! :)

  • Fucking art!

  • so blown away by this piece...good job!

  • That's so beautiful ;D

  • This, my friend, is very very cool!

  • This video is so... So epic! I wonder why it still has so few views.

  • FUCK ME!!! HELLL NO!!! I WANT THAT SONG! MAKE's ME FELL FLUFFY! :D

  • This would be the greatest thing to wake up to.

  • I think it's kinda fun that ppl tend to post more about the incorrect title then the awesomeness of this video, great jobb mate!

  • sinclair spectrum! my last name is sinclair :3

  • starts at1:16

  • EPIC !

  • B E S T!

  • A*W*E*S*O*M*E

  • woooooo

  • SO FUCKING COOL

  • Just to re-iterate what others have said...

You've referred to this a both a ZX80 in the title and a zx80 spectrum in the description.

It is a ZX Spectrum. Not a ZX80 and there is no such computer as a "zx80 spectrum".

  • It's actually so beautiful..

  • This is how Thom Yorke gets inspired!

  • @ironpipe14 :)

  • this almost sounds like a cocorosie song

  • Obsolete electronics playing sad music

  • hellllllllllllllllllllllll!!!! added to favorite!!!!! its really amazingggg!!!

  • old electronics had soul

  • @Mandanara they still do

  • best music i ever herd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this video being an entry in the Radiohead-cover-competition (but too late to win a prize).

  • ur kidding me.. hahahhaha awsome, i have one of those but cant put it to work anymore, dont know how xD

this vid is kind of scary to watch x)

  • lol

  • Pure beauty!

  • Awesome! Love radiohead :D

  • The hard drive speakers need sound cones; see this video:

    watch?v=bVoPrvjvSKs

  • .... Tv, one for the power and one for the ear cassette plug.

  • @richardmaudsley look there are three wires, one for the rv

  • @Piasintei71 i have a c64 and it does not look like that. Not just the computer but on the tv it is clearly a spectrum. Why would it say (c) 1982 sinclair research? The c64 also used a special datassette, not tape recorder, the spectrum DID have borders, the c64s start up background olour was blue, when it found the program it did not clear the screen a then display the name but just went onto the next line and finally the datassette did not make that noice.

  • Great!

  • sound like a game tape...

  • Y'know, I only kind of like the original song, but something about this version I adore :P

  • Damn I love how dead hard drives can be useful aside making sander, fans, magnetic generators etc.

    Nice vid.

  • Clearly not done with the spectrum, nothing but the tape deck and the TV is plugged into it.

  • @richardmaudsley77 If you see the original Vimeo link as uploaded by the guy who did it (I still think the Youtube uploader should change the description and at least credit James Houston)..it's listed as "Sinclair ZX Spectrum - Guitars (rhythm & lead), Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer - Drums, HP Scanjet 3c - Bass Guitar, Hard Drive array - Act as a collection of bad speakers - Vocals & FX".

It's "Big Ideas (don't Get Any)" on Vimeo.

  • Great video, and nice hacking. :)

  • And James Houston is a Glaswegian too! Could he be any more perfect :)

  • You should really change the title. I saw this on Vimeo, uploaded by James Houston, for a Radiohead competition (unfortunately he was too late).

Apparently, according to one of the comments, it's NOT a ZX Spectrum (a ZX80 is an entirely different, and older, Sinclair computer) but a AY chip from a Spectrum 128K making the music.

Aside from all that, this is still genius.

  • @damedavid Oops I see I am making redundant comments :)

  • that's the first time I see HDD playing a Kazoo ;)

  • How did they get two voices at the same time with the speccy because they are mono

  • @TheKiwiMaster The voices aren't on the spec, they are on the 10 HDD's I believe.

  • @Piasintei71 Google it for images. It is a Spectrum for sure :) C64 was a large pale grey thing, without the cheerful rainbow :)

  • If you've had a C64 you know that the method of shipment with flashing bars outside of the screen is typical of the C64.

Finally, the screen of the Spectrum had no borders, unlike the C64 was not at full screen, but had the edges (those flashing in the video)

If you've had both the C64 that the Spectrum as I understand the difference between one and the other

  • Simply beautiful!

  • Awesome!

  • Honestly the things we can do with a little creativity...just wow

  • This is a total fake. That's Spectrum, not ZX80 (which has no sound at all). The computer sound doesn't come from Spectrum after all, because there is no AY attached to the Spectrum. Finally - it plays after switch-off.

I don't have anything against you, dude, but the video is a pretty bad fake.

  • It's called changing the channel. Also, the original ZX Spectrum had a beeper. That's where the sound is coming from.

  • pls can anyone tell me what is the name of that song...cause very nice

  • @theTG789 Radiohead - "Nude"

  • fantastic

  • Very well done! Nice! I liked it!

  • i think that it isn't ZX80 but ZX 80's music

  • iave the tv on the weather cannel no not owned by nbc but the one that just has radar and the weather radio audio any way i'm ering a lot beeps and i usually ere when i listen to the weathrer radio it goes beeeeee-ooooooo-iiiiiiiiiii-ppp any one wat it is?

  • Put yur hands up if you think this is fake. Raises hands. This is fake.

  • I used to do this with my CBM64 and the 1541 drive, God Save the Queen

  • That's a ZX Spectrum not a ZX80...

  • @shaurz Стопроцентно правы!!!!!!

  • What's the origins of the film? It's really intersting it looks a few years old, I take it it's not the posters own work, the fact that he got the name of the computer wrong is a bit of a give away, but all the stuff looks quite old IE the printer and scanner, but the HDD look like IDE drives, so its maybe from early 90's?

  • It can't be very old, it's playing "Nude" by Radiohead (even says so on the cassette tape) which was released 31st March 2008. They've done a good job at making it look like it was filmed in the 80s.

  • Do you know I saw that but I didn't put 2 and 2 together, I didn't realise that Nude was actually a Radiohead tune, but even so any Radiohead song would date it from at least the early 90's, your're right thou they have done a good job it defo looks like it's on film, and old. I wouldn't mind but I actaully went to see Radiohead last year on their tour for the last album, I guess the one that this tune is off, saw them @ Glasgow Green, I was a good night too despite the rain.

  • That is amazing.

  • Incredible! So beautiful and nice... great!

Thanks a lot for that great work!

  • Just a question, why is this recorded on film and not on video, if it is. It looks it. Not that I'm complaining either! :D

  • By far the best PC equipment based music I've heard.

  • lol, that's awsome, almost, art, you should put this in a modern art gallery but it would be too good for a place like that!

  • Very nice.

  • Oh, how I wanted a ZX, but it was just too damn expensive :). A fairly disturbing video, good job.

  • all those retro stuff u can sell

  • Comment removed

  • Nice vid, very nice song, good job man !

I hop for the voices you use the recorder ?

  • Did you make that? That was incredible!

  • it's Radiohead......

  • Nice video - Very well made - But you got the name wrong - This is not a ZX80 - This is a ZX Spectrum - The ZX80 only gave a black and white screen output and had no sound.

  • @Uberlaser even better: he said its a zx80 spectrum XD

  • man, thats just fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

  • god i remember having to do this, you spent 1/4 an hour waiting for the tape to load before you could do anything. Fantastic vid
