  • thanks for explanation!

  • ive just started to mix and always wanted to no how to double drop tunes this is been a great help thanks

  • @MrShickers if ur starting double drops are the least of your worries lmao... so tough even for the most experienced DJs, i just started mixing using vinyl, just keep trying to beatmatch and using chemical-records for the right melody/key

  • being a musician, but a noob to Djing, i find it easier to count every 4 beats a measure instead of going all the way to 32 in for 2 full bars... idk... im a drummer, my mind thinks oddly ^_^

  • ye im a drummer and i kind of do that to, i count each beat "1 2 3 4" 4 times which adds up to 1 bar and then i just repeat that (twice for a phrase). Weird thing is i started doing this without actually counting any numbers in my head because i wasnt concentrating on how many bars i was playing or anything, now i can jst kinda feel when something should come in its kinda hard to explain :P

  • LOL me too I have played guitar for 5 years mostly metal and progressive rock and metal so i know alot about odd meters and fast bpms i find it very easy to listen to and count jungle music.

  • why is everyone bein cunts?

hes jus tryin to help people,

if it didnt help you learn dont take it out on him,

you clicked the vid in the first place

  • thats for a single music track to find the bpm, you shouldn't really need to 'know' the bpm of a track when mixing, never have in 12 years of mixing

  • or you can save yourself counting like some madman and download a free beat counter from the internet and tap the beat with your space bar.

  • instead of counting every 2nd cnt u do every 4th

  • whether or not you find this helpful, its nice for him to try and pass along some tidbits of help. 1,2,3,4 seems the best fit for me when I started. Knowing my tunes, the drops, the breaks and the loops, remembering 1234.

  • Super nice to post somthing like this , but I cant see this helping enyone mix DnB.

  • What the hell? is this a maths lesson.......hell if can't hear it, practice till ya can or buy yourself a beat counting mixer! That was torture!!!

  • lol hes just trying to help, different people have different methods. As for beat counting mixer, cheating gyppo lol

  • Silly man, if you have to count it like that, it means you're not feeling the music at all.

If it's such a task playing music, take up another hobby

  • absoludly agreyaah

  • he doesnt owe u anything.. no need to be a prick.. some people might find it handy, especially someone just getting into dnb, doesnt mean they arent 'feeling' the music wigga.

  • lol at 'wigga'

  • nevim vo co de

  • that's funny, that 2 totally different lp's have the same construction

  • i can see on the vinyl how much bpm is it... and also i can hear it....

  • use your fuckin ears, don't count! sounds like a dance lesson man!

  • the easiest way to do it is to count the snares as singles then after 30 seconds multiply it by four , thatll give you bpm!!

  • just listen for the snares??

  • it's funny how every DJ does this in the beginning, and after a while, it all happens on a beautifully subconscious level :)

keep up the good work, mate!

  • a drum and bass song at 240bpm, fuck me that would bean intense mixing task. Count by the off (bass)beat, mix by the snares, easy as.

  • I always count in 4's I never count higher than 8 why would you count all the way to 32?

  • s2gmix and lloydus101 get a life hes amazing hes just trying 2 help poeple we mxing lyk

  • there are a lot of people who don't know, and need this kind of extensive explanations. It's obvious to me too, but I can imagine there are people that don't get it on their own.

  • ey? this shit just confused the fuck out of me; 4 beats per par, count each beat in the bar, there ya go, much simplier.

  • If you an t to count the bpm's ... you... simply have to feel the music as if it were straight bassline, like a house or techno track. It's all under the meesed up beats, there still is an order. Feel it ;)

  • first time dj. I'm learning how to count bpm. Its confusing as hell. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

  • 4 beats to a bar, 16 bars to a complete sequence in d&b. listen to d&b until u can understand where the next sequence starts, its fairly easy to hear when it logically sounds like the next 16. other than that, learn with house music till u get to grips with a fast beat...dont listen to this dude, he means well but has totally overcomplicated it!! (i mix d&b btw, so am not talking out of my butt)

  • I think dnb is so much easier to mix than house, its alot easier to here if the beat has moved out of time

  • Totally agree with ya.

  • Nice vid bruv, will u make anymore. I enjoyed watchin dis. take it ezy bruv.

  • Hey there i need to know exaclty i have numarks, and on them they have the button 33 and 45 bpm now starting the pitch at 0% that means if its on 45 its just 45 right? ok so, i like to mix dnb now people tell me the bpm are usually around 175-180, now how exatlcy would i get the pitch best to 175-180? i only see a 0% -10% +10% where the pitch is and between those numbers are 9 notches some smaller than other exatlcy what does each notch mean? i am very confused plz respond ty

  • to FutubeintheA, ok say a toon is @ 120 bpm and the pitch is in the middle position, if you push the pitch to say -8 this will slow the toon down , and also stretch the time in between the beats , making the bpm a lot less. then if you speed up the toon by going to + 8 this will give you more bpm , because the turntable will speed up. j

  • hey man.. i read your response on this vid! i spin dnb also! if u need the beat faster all u need to do lower the pitch adj. meaning closer to the +10.. oh and when the pitch is on 0 that is the actuall way the track is suppos to be played, but if u need it faster put the pitch closer to +10..

  • Please Tell and show me, HOW do you mix Heavy/Death Metal ?

  • stupid ass, i woul like to see you at the club like that

  • Is he a countant or a d&b dj????

  • i know why you are all pissed off its because you cant get it up cause the camera isnt focused on him cuz other wise i would be like why the fuck are the so pissed off if a guy wants to show people how ot count beats

  • Perfect every u said is perfect thanks

    DJ TERMINAL {NZ}

  • where do you get your songs from they sound goo what were th names of the songs you pLYED IN THIS VID???

  • he said them at the beginning of the vid, go down to your local DnB vinyl shop and grab them ;)

  • thanks for this, love your videos :)

  • Hahaha you douch...why did you make this video...and more importantly...why did you make it public?!

  • wtf is this crap? if you need some shit like this to learn how to "count" beats you dont need to be spinning anyway. who the fuck "counts" beats when they are mixing? this dudes a douchebag and so are the fags who need this shit.

  • It is easier to mix when you know the BPM...Your mix will sound a ton better if you mix with around the same BPM

  • does it suck being a shittty dj? durtygroove?

  • lol..wtf is dude on about..post some videos, lets see you spin..and i think every1 counts beats while mixin..

  • awesome! thx for it! can you write down the track names? I do not understand! thx !

  • sell your tables and kill yourself

  • ok.. ill give u some help.. im nice like that,, the beats are the main thing.. jungle runs with fast beats (that doesnt mean bpms) and jungle is also usualy ragga orintated.. main dnb is usualy run at a hardstep pace... its hard to explain in text.. p3@c3

  • @ standard... if u dont know the diff between jungle and dnb... u shouldnt really be mixing lol... i dont need to answer that...

  • THANX! 1more time!

  • hmmmm....

  • nice man! now spanish ver. hahaah. good luck!

  • Sup m8, me and my m8 bought 2 pairs of decks about 3 years ago, we've never really asked how other ppl count bars. ive always done it in sets of 8 [as in, the intro to game over is 8 bars, or warhead remix is 32] and that has seemed to work for me n my m8, i dnt no wat other ppl use but 8 seems to be the best to double drop n stuff. gr8 tutorial for begginners tho, i had 2 learn the hard way!

    Dj_Space

  • Anyone got an officially sanctioned definition of the difference between drum and bass and jungle?

xenon6543 no one "picked up on it" cause there's nothing to pick up on, its all just a name.

  • I have been DJing drum and bass for 10 years and I also have never counted beats to mix them. I really don't understand the point as IMO when you are mixing, the actual BPM is irrelevant just as long as the 2 records you are playing are beat matched, which you do by ear anyway.

If in a situation where you need to know the BPM remixing etc then you should need to know it a lot more accurately than counting 30 secs and doubling it. I just don't see what the point is?

  • @xenon; I'm playin d'n'b and jungle for 7year now and the tracks playing by dj totur in here, you can call it mellow drum'n bass as well! Jungle has a much more amen breaks! ;)

    Respcect

    H:

  • its mainly jungle ur playing not drum and bass...i cant believe noone picked up on that lol.. and as for counting beats to mix :)) dont make me laff.. u never count beats.. u just know...its called practice..the only way ud even come close to counting is if its a tricky intro..like no beat and n shit...p3@c3

  • A fair comment , Many thanks. johnathan

  • @ellaskins

haha, reading that comment + your answer, somehow I had to think of the video you posted on how to act when being approached by drunk pricks when playing in a club. :)

  • We nearly have the same setup except I have 1210's and a pro 8 and you have 1200's and a pro 10 :( and your better than me.

  • good tutorial, always handy to use these tips in crazy dnb tunes where its harder to feel the break points

  • i dont really understand why count beats, I spin house music, drum n bass, and breaks.... ive been spinning for about 7 years now (holy crap its been that long?!) but i do it all by ear and have never had any reason to count the beats....vinyl kicks ass

  • THANKS

  • Excellent tutorial. Nice work

  • lol I have this picture in my head of my old Gym teacher with a stopwatch playing records hehehe.

  • personaly i have never worried about the bpm of a record when mixin, i don't think its needed. i think u should feel the music not just listen to it. exelant series of tutorials though, i have always found it hard to teach aspiring djs but ur videos are well explained and easy to understand for beginners. keep up the good work. :-}

  • Thank you very much!

  • many thanks for your comment

  • not bad for absolute beginners.

  • Thanks ellaskins, this has been a great help!!!

  • saw a comment you made on cd players...you right really vinyl is the pioneer of DJ-ing, nice videos, thought me some tiny things that messed me up a bit thanks

  • hehe yea. well i personally use a program on my computer for bpm. i record a song to my computer, then put it in the program and it tells the the exact bpm to the 1/10 of a beat. i just round it off the the nearest 1 beat though when i label the record.

i just wish it was that easy to find keys of songs.

  • Hi mate,

Do you record sets on your pc, if so what software/leads are you using? & How do you connect it all up?

Not asking for a lot am I?!

    Appreciated, a lot! =)

  • i use a program called goldwave to record. all i do is connect my mixer from "rec out" to my sound card imput.

doed that help?? it's pretty simple

  • Yup, it sure did!

    Thanks :]

  • Silly you!

  • OOPS!! i did say twice that I counted two bars! but it was actualy 4! You will see what i mean!!
