It's going to take our educators to train and inspire another generation of Nelson Riddles. I'd like to think it can happen. I can always hope. My parents were adults when this type of song made the first go-round in the '30s and '40s. I hope they appreciated them. I certainly do.
What a hauntingly beautiful piece of music. IronmanHondo I also bought the cassette and wore it out playing this song over and over. Thank you jaybeearr
Saw this whole show live in Sydney in '84. Nelson really had that orchestra primed and Linda was in top voice that night. It was the beginning of my appreciation of the bigger orchestral sound that you just don't hear any more. I was only 27 then and it suddenly dawned on me how great a good orchestra could sound. For me, from there on it was no longer all just rock n roll.
Reminds me of my now deceased friend, bomber radioman on B-17s and Ham radio buddy. He played trumpet before WWII and played for me sometimes and he sounded like the guys in this orchestra. and as always ... SING IT, Rhonda! wow. what a voice.
Amazing! Was this in 1984? I love the detail: colour of the stage curtain, the exact opening of the curtain to match the moment the music reaches its peak... After all we have being doing quality stuff until very recently...
OH MY GOD, THEY JUST DON'T DO IT LIKE THIS ANYMORE! I bought this on cassette back in the 80s. And now here it is. Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle. It was pure genius to put them together.
Sing On, Linda, this is music like we'll not hear again. You & Mr Riddle--a dream come true for us real music lovers. You were so gorgeous & what a voice. Wolfsky9
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Linda R. sings this classic song with delicacy, great phrasing and a pure lovely voice.
"What's New" is a song that also appears on Frank Sinatra's well-known album "Only the Lonely." Linda does a great job of honoring Frank's work. This is a great performance.
It is sad to think that the condition of the music industry has deteriorated so badly in current years. We need to re-build the Band and Orchestra and Choral programs in our public schools. Otherwise, it will only get worse. I was hoping that, as i aged, each successive generation would produce music at least as good as what you hear in this video. Marketing has surpassed talent as the driving force in this industry, and it shows........
Linda asked Nelson Riddle to arrange the songs on three albums that she recorded....pure genius on her part and pure pleasure hearing them together!
