@dubdrc E92 M3 is a beast and it is one good looking car. People just refuse to move on and let go of the last generation. This is the beauty of bmw. They make cars that last for so many years even after the newer generation comes out. Personally, I really like E92 M3, but i just purchased a E46 m3 with competition package last than 2 weeks ago. :D the look fo M3 is always a treat to the eyes
Grow up kids. The E46 is a 2000 model based car and it still hung in there apart from a few tenths of a second so that speaks volumes. The E92 has better technology but its too heavy and doesnt make much use of the extra horsepower therefore its more hp to varry the extra technology. I own one of each. E92 is a nicer drive with new luxury but the E46 is always going to be the 'nasty little bitch' that likes to keep up.
e46 has the best chasis for tracks or canyons for a 4 door sedan ever. and thats saying a lot since i love AMG . i also own an e46 and it has perfect 50/50 wieght distribution
i dont get how you pay so much more money for the e90 m3 over the e46 and get little or no difference in performance even with the hp difference as well, buy an e46 and save some money
In reality, and on the street the E92 is not much quicker at all untill double digit speeds. I own an '06 M3 coupem, and have tested the E92 on three occasions. You feel th extra 300 pounds on the new chassis.
Uh, its all about HP/Weight ratio. IMO these cars can be very close with good drivers, expertly driven E46 euro (343 hp) can pull a 4.5 sec 0-62 mph. Being lighter than the E92, there is a certain advantage, but you're right in that the 92 is faster in the end. HP #'s don't mean anything if there is a great weight discrepancy. I've seen a stock 270 hp NSX beat a turbo Nissan 350Z 400+hp.
Doesn't mean anything. I quoted their tested figures by atleast 20 different tests. The new M3 kills the older one and that is a fact. The simple truth is, the E92/E90 M3 will slaughter the E46 M3 mercilessly. Straight line or around a race track. THAT IS A FACT! The new E90 M3 slaughtered even the M3 CSL E46 mercilessly in the m3board test videos.
Around Nurburgring the E92 M3 is 17 seconds faster (8:05 vs 8:22) than the old M3. That means, it will simply vanish.
That power to weight advantage of the E92 is HUGE! BMW would never have released the new M3 if they were not absolutely sure it r*pes the old one in a straight line and around a race track.
Simply vanish? Wrong, my friend. The body of the E46 is one of the best track cars ever designed. BMW DTM cars still use the E46 with a V8 dropped in. It's a much better investment to mod an E46 than to buy a spankin new E92 for 60K. Costs and benefits of a forced induction E46 > new E92. You'll only need 15-20K in performance parts to totally surpass the E92... as far as I'm concerned, only rich playboys buy E92's, diehards will get the E46 and mod.
You remind me of the st*pid fanbois of the E36 when the E46 M3 came out and they slammed the E46..
E90 M3 is too new. It just came out last year. It took several years before the S54 engine started getting superchargers and horsepower freak kit and it is not cheap.
I quoted their best Nurburgring lap times and if you know anything about Nurburgring, 19 seconds translates to over 15 car lengths and that means the new M3 will simply vanish.
The M engineers said it in their press conference that their goal with the new M3 was to build an M3 that was leagues superior to the old in every single way and they accomplish it as the Nurburgring laptimes speak for themselves.
By the way, there is already a supercharger in development for the E90 M3 in Norway and it is putting out 700 HP at the crank in its first stage already.
In a few years, the S65 engine will have tons of superchargers and turbochargers available putting out massive power.
Ok bro, that's fine if you have the dough. Sometimes its not about the numbers but the feel and experience and the love of a chassis, styling, lights, wheels that makes a car one to stick with. I saw an E92 today, we had some fun on the freeway. I have an E46 and we talked about our cars later while stopping for coffee. Yea, I'm sure beat when it comes to performance, but I'll love my car no matter what. To each his own.
Next car? IS-F because I have to return to my heritage.
I agree. I am with you on that. I love the E46. I love the rawness probably more than the refined feel of the new one. The metallic rasp in the old M3 is so unique.
The styling of the E46 M3 is classic and will never get old. It is probably the most perfectly proportioned BMW ever.
The S54 has really taken on a new life with horsepower freaks turbo kits. It is like a high-revving Supra engine putting out massive HP. Amazing 1000 whp E46 M3 revving up to 8000 rpm. Amazing stuff!
Take my suggestion. Don't get the IS-F. I drove it back to back with the M3. It is BORING! with an auto slushbox. The new M3 is sooo much racier and more hard edged racing car wiht a high-revving engine and 6 speed.
Drive them back to back and you will see what I mean.
Every current gen M3 is worse than the previous gen according to the Interwebs. This has been going on since Jesus owned the E00 M3.

The Nord is NOT the only track in the world, and here are some other track times:
Tsukuba; E46: 1:07.11 E92: 1:05.817
Rockingham: E46: 1:24.40 E92: 1:25.58
Serres Racing Circuit:
E46: 1:35.15E92: 1:33.05

of course BMW makes every generation M3 faster than the last generation. Thats called evolution.

E46 M3 got destroyed after 1st gear.

yes, because it is a second race, and E46 won first one

420 HP vs 333 HP
1st or the 2nd. 100 more horsepower. A properly driven E92 M3 should waste the E46 M3 without any competition. Again, keyword "properly driven".
The stats say that
E46 M3
0-60: 4.8 secs
1/4 mile: 13.4 secs@105 mph
E92 M3
0-60: 4.1 secs (car and driver tested)
1/4 mile: 12.6 secs@113 mph
SpeedKlz 3 years ago
E92 M3 was with ESP ON, and this is the reason of bad start

(Official BMW specs and power to weights)
E92 M3:
1622 KG (3568 lbs) / 420 HP = 8.4 pounds per HP
E46 M3:
1552 KG (3414 lbs) / 343 = 10 lbs/ HP
